Okay here goes, I'm hoping to take my mom on a trip to disney maybe the year after next. She's sort of a "larger than life" kind of person. She's a golfer, I'm not. I know when she gets there she'll want to play, and she'll want me to go with her. I won't be able to turn her down (you're always a kid to your mom, you know, event though I'm over 50). So I'm checking out the windows live pictures of OKW. What is that golf course that meanders through there? Is it very advanced? Will I be embarrassed by my non experience with golf? Can you rent clubs?

The theming of OKW has always appealed to me, I'm not crazy about the size of the resort, but the size of the rooms would be good, might give me a little space. I love the size of the patio/balconies too.

The name of the golf course is Lake Buena Vista.
Not sure if you know this but there are a total of 5 golf courses on Disney property.

Lake Buena Vista
Magnolia
Palm
Oak Trail
Osprey Ridge

The golf course around OKW is Lake Buena Vista (LBV) and it is a wonderful course, probably my hubby's favorite. It is a great course for begginers and experienced players alike ... as are most of the courses at WDW. Hubby is a wonderful golfer and I hate the game :rotfl2: so when I go along I usually become the "Official ball spotter and picture taker!"

Don't worry about being embarassed about your skill level or what other guest might be thinking if they are out on their balcony ... even the BEST golfer in the world can have a horrible shot or two! :)
One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the "serious" golfers usually pick the early morning tee times. If you don't want to be followed by a 4some that might make you feel a bit nervous or rushed think about booking an afternoon or twilight tee time.

So spend a day golfing with your mom and enjoy every minute of it ... just make sure to plan something that you really love for later in the trip so you have that to look forward to! :)

Have a great trip! Jennie

Edited to add - yes, you can rent golf clubs from disney

don't worry about your looking silly.

if you read the posts here alot of people look silly playing golf. must go with it.

they do have people at Disney who can give you lessons - expensive - but might be worth it for you.

Of course you don't want to better than your mom....

If Mom's a golfer I think she would really enjoy staying at OKW. However, the same golf course, LBV, actually starts within SSR and many of the villas there also overlook the golf course. On my Feb trip my friend's husband and 12 year old son had a great time on LBV -- in fact the father-son are headed back next month to play several of the WDW courses with little or no park time planned. They rent Calloways to the kids so I'm sure the clubs for the adults are just as good or better. My friend was very impressed by the whole golf experience and the CMs at the course. He was also raving about the GPS in the golf carts that really lays out each hole.

DW and I play a lot of golf at WDW and each of the 5 courses is wonderful. Depending on the time of year you are traveling, the DVC membership at $50.00 can be worth the price for a single round for just the two of you. If you paly more than one round, the discount can add up real quickly. The course that winds through OKW and SSR is the Lake Buena Vista Course (LBV). During our last trip in October our balcony overlooked the 7th tee on LBV. The 7th is a par 3 and an island green. That was fun to observe.

The golf courses are in three seperate areas. The pro shop for the LBV course is at the SSR resort. The new Grandstand area at SSR overlooks several of the holes on the back nine of LBV. The Bonnet Creek pro shop handles the golf for the Osprey Ridge course and used to handle the golf for the Eagle Pines course that closed down last August. The pro shop for the Magnolia and the Palm courses is in the Shades of Green resort area. Disney provides taxi transportation from each resort to the various golf courses and back at no cost to the golfer.

The last several times we were at Disney, one of the members of our group was renting clubs. At that time, they were renting either Titleist or Cobra clubs. These were pretty much higher end clubs from each line, but they were the previous year's models. Very good clubs though.

Everyone has a different opinion on which of the courses is the best at WDW. My absolute favorite is Osprey Ridge both from a scenic and golfing stand point. The PGA tour plays the Disney PGA tour event each fall on the Palm and Magnolia courses. The Magnolia hosts the final round. Both of those courses can be challenging. ALL of the Disney courses feature lots of water so be prepared for that.

Remember, there's only 4 courses now. I think it was Eagle Pines that closed as part of the sale to another company last October.

The poster that said 5 didn't include Eagle Pines but they did include Oak Trail, the 9 hole walking course.

It is a great course for begginers and experienced players alike ... as are most of the courses at WDW.
I would disagree with this. Excepting Oak Trail, the other 4 courses have slope ratings over (sometimes well over) 120. Pretty tough going for the beginning golfer, especially as the courses are crowded and you will feel time pressure to keep up pace-of-play.
