DH and I just watched this movie tonight, its on the instant queue on netflix...........it was really good.
I have the book on my request list at the library, and got the notice it is in for me to pick up.
should I read the book even though I just watched the movie? does the book go into more detail about Lisbeth?

we are watching The Girl Who Played with Fire tomorrow night, also on netflix instant.
:)

anyone?

I am probably so behind that this is old news:lmao:

Yes read the book. They were so good (IMO of course) I read all three of them in about a week.

The movie was really good but the book goes into more details about the mystery disappearance and Lisbeth's history.

Yes, yes, yes - read all 3 books... they are great!!! I was disappointed when I was finished reading the 3rd book because it was over... I missed the characters and was left wanting more!!!

I third the other posters - read the books too! I have had the 3 books read for awhile and just watched "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" this morning. While I thought the movie was well done, the books were even better. The book goes into much more detail about Lisbeth than the movie could never have covered. However, it is the 2nd and 3rd book that have the most information about Lisbeth and her life. I have not seen the Girl Who Played with Fire movie so I can't comment on it's content.

I noticed "the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" on Netfix but I assumed it was in a foreign language! I will be watching that ASAP!!! I have read all three books and LOVED them! How many movies have been made so far?

I haven't read the book or watched the movies but ime the books are always much more detailed then the movies so I always like to read the books as well.

They are in a foreign language but they have English subtitles. Since I had read the book first I found I could actually follow what they were saying without watching the subtitles really close.

I think they have made all three movies but I have only seen the first two released here in the US.

It is subtitled, but it's still a very good movie. I loved both "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "The Girl that Played with Fire". Can't wait for "The Girl that Kicked the Hornet's Nest" to come out.

I however, am not excited about the Hollywood remake. I just think the original movies are so good that whatever English version that is made will be sorely lacking.

Read the books!!!!! You won't be able to put them down. I'm going insane waiting for the third installment to come out in paperback.

I watched the first movie and had a very difficult time with it. I'm not hugely into subtitles, and I found the movie to be rather bland. I wasn't as impressed as most people. I'm not a purist, so I'm very much looking forward to the Hollywood versions!

As I was reading the books, I pictured Ellen Page as Lisbeth. I haven't seen anything Rooney Mara was in (waiting patiently for Social Network to show up at the cheap theater!) so I hope she can pull it off.

I read the books first, then watch the movie. The movie was a close to the book as any movie I think I've seen. Still, the book gives you a better understanding of some things.

Having said that, I guess I didn't enjoy the movies as much as I thought I would. Since it followed the book so closely, I almost got a little bored knowing everything that would happen. I think I would have enjoyed the movie more had I not read the book.

If you get the DVD(or maybe it was blu ray) from netflix, instead of doing instant watch, it is dubbed in english. You can do the subtitles too but the dubbing was good.

yep it was foreign, but with english subtitles.

ok we watched The Girl Who Played with Fire tonight! ( netflix instant again), and it was really good, now I cannot wait to see the third installment on this series!!!
I put it in search on netflix and it said unavailable. so I was able to request the dvd from the library and I think it said 2011. so it must not be available in usa yet.

the library has the first 2 books ready for me to pick up on monday:thumbsup2
I am going to be reading all 3 for sure.
glad to hear there is more detail in the books!

Rooney Mara was pretty good in The Social Network. But she was awful in the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

Loved the movie and LOVED the books!!!!!!!

I'm very skeptical about the Hollywood treatment of the books.

Definitely read the books. I think they are better than the movies. Especially the second one -I loved the book but really didn't care for the movie.

I was very disturbed by the movie. I couldn't sleep for days. I had not read the book first(which I should have) Really I was bothered for days by this one. So much so that I don't think I can watch any others. It was way too graphic for me.
I am however reading the Girl Who Played With Fire. I vote Books vs. Movies on this one.

I really can't imagine how they are going to sanitize it to make it American Movie appropriate.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest was released in theaters here; we found an indie theater showing it and saw it last week! LOVED it. Check around in your area and see if you can find one showing it - it was great to watch it on the big screen!
