Spent a good portion of the afternoon in the main garden today. DD worked on the back gardens and I put up my new rose pillars in those gardens as well...but the bulk of my time today was spent knocking down the lush weed growth in the walkways and cultivting the main flower beds. The hollyhocks have taken over (again!) and I am working hard to keep them confined to their corner.
Thought I would share a few pics of the garden in early spring. It really is not that interesting for the moment... as the spring bulbs are all wrapping up (or are done) and the next bloomers are just a week or two away from their display time. There are buds on the centranthus though... so it will be beautiful again soon.
This is the main walkway that I just used the weed whacker on to knock down the heavy infestation of HOLLYHOCKS! They are soo dang prolific.
A close up of one of the tulips blooming right now. There are still several of them blooming - but they are the last of the spring bulb show. I seemed to have missed getting a picture of all the spring bloomers. They did put on a nice show this year.
Some more of the spring bulbs putting on their last hurrah before bowing out and allowing the other beauties to take center stage.
This shows how nice and big my Blaze Improved climbing rose has gotten. It is the rose on the trellis attached to the grey pumphouse.
In the corner is the stand of hollyhocks. That is where they are supposed to stay! LOL! The American Beauty climbing roses on the garden gate trellis are looking very good this spring... and climbing up through the right rose bush is the purple clematis. It suffered a severe haircut from my DH last year... but it seems to be coming back with a vengeance this spring.
I think it will be a GRAND display of the coral roses and purple clematis in 2003.
That's it for now. Just thought I would share how the garden is doing.
