Spent a good portion of the afternoon in the main garden today. DD worked on the back gardens and I put up my new rose pillars in those gardens as well...but the bulk of my time today was spent knocking down the lush weed growth in the walkways and cultivting the main flower beds. The hollyhocks have taken over (again!) and I am working hard to keep them confined to their corner.

Thought I would share a few pics of the garden in early spring. It really is not that interesting for the moment... as the spring bulbs are all wrapping up (or are done) and the next bloomers are just a week or two away from their display time. There are buds on the centranthus though... so it will be beautiful again soon.

This is the main walkway that I just used the weed whacker on to knock down the heavy infestation of HOLLYHOCKS! They are soo dang prolific.

A close up of one of the tulips blooming right now. There are still several of them blooming - but they are the last of the spring bulb show. I seemed to have missed getting a picture of all the spring bloomers. They did put on a nice show this year.

Some more of the spring bulbs putting on their last hurrah before bowing out and allowing the other beauties to take center stage.

This shows how nice and big my Blaze Improved climbing rose has gotten. It is the rose on the trellis attached to the grey pumphouse.

In the corner is the stand of hollyhocks. That is where they are supposed to stay! LOL! The American Beauty climbing roses on the garden gate trellis are looking very good this spring... and climbing up through the right rose bush is the purple clematis. It suffered a severe haircut from my DH last year... but it seems to be coming back with a vengeance this spring. :) I think it will be a GRAND display of the coral roses and purple clematis in 2003.

That's it for now. Just thought I would share how the garden is doing.

Isn't it amazing how different the gardens look at different times of year? Except for the fencing, I would never have recognized this as your garden, DixieDee.

I worked on several different areas of my garden today. This forum and the original CB garden thread have really inspired me these past, what? two years to do better and more with my garden and yard.

I owe you all a debt of thanks.

Just beautiful laura...can't wait to see more pictures as the seasons change, your pictures are always so inspiring.

Love it, DixieD! :)

It will be wonderful to see it transform throughout the season. :)

Thank you!

I have looked so forward to pics of your gardens.....last year they were awesome!!!! Can't wait to see more!

By the way - you had another beauty taking over one of the other pics....cute cat!!!

Very inviting and beautiful. Can't wait to see it this summer....:D

Hi DixieDreamer,

Your garden looks great!<BG> You really seem to have a knack with roses....oh yeah, and you have a cute kitty too.

I missed the kitty. I had to go back and take a look/see! Definitely is DixieDee's garden with a kitty or two hanging about.
:teeth:

You are all such sweeties. The kitty is "sick kitty" who came to us last winter deathly ill. He ADORES me and has recovered so much that we FINALLY changed his name to "Sid" (rather than sick) because he appeared ready to live after all! He really was knocking on death's door when he came to us. Some love, good food, and a few visits to the vet (got neutered in there too!) ... and he is a new man. :)

He was enjoying the spring sunshine and guarding me from evil garden fairies. :p

My Joseph's Coat Climbing Roses arrived yesterday. I heeled them in to a spot in the garden... so I could wait until the weekend to plant them. I am excited to add them to my gardens. They are a beautiful rose.

Here's a picture of one - the normal "bush" variety.

THanks for the pics, DblD! I think you should come help me landscape at the new place!

Thanks for the pics. Your garden looks great so lush and green already. Looking forward to seeing the your plants grow and bloom through the season. Cute kitty:p
