The Future of the Rumors and News Forum

If we wait until everything is verified by Disney we will have nothing to talk about! 😀

At least they don't hold out as long as Universal on announcing stuff. We would never be able to talk about anything then.

One of the best posters for insider stuff is @andyman8. The only I do find with this board is how quick discussions will end on something.

The problem is that there are too many bad actors out there making things up so that there's no real way to tell the difference. Maybe there would be a scoreboard, where each source has to register each rumor they float, and then it remains labeled "not yet true" in red until it comes true, when it gets labeled "true" in green. Then we can clearly see how many of the rumors each source floats end up being true. LOL

Was going to convey the same point... the rules are in place to make certain that rumors were coming from reputable sources, and with all due respect to posters here who might have good info, it's hard to confirm that it's coming from a legit source. If it IS legit, then it's a good bet that a trusted source will eventually talk about it. So I think mods would prefer to be safe than sorry, especially when things can spin out of control quickly. There's a good reason why "I heard from a bus driver" is a long running joke here.
But this being a rumors forum, I see nothing wrong with people that are not as Disney savvy coming in and posting that they "heard that Space Mountain was going to be demolished, is there any truth to that?" I mean, that's what we're here for. To provide better sources for their information etc. Not to belittle them or make them feel stupid for asking. And if things like that provoke thoughts or conversation, so be it. What does it hurt?

The mods' sanity.

The problem with letting people post ridiculous questions is that the fact that they post it will make people think it is happening. Look at the joke post on this board about fireworks to see evidence of that. There's no problem with asking the question and people shouldn't be mocked. However, the Rumors and News forums isn't a good place for any wild thing that someone heard from a random person. Also take a look at the post on this board about someone's mom hearing that all M&G's would either become paid or be Chase cardholder exclusive. There's no legitimate source for the rumor.

There's no legitimate source for the rumor.
And there's the rub. What is a "legitimate source"? I got my information on the Solo boycott from Star Wars youtube channels. It's all they talked about in January, February, March, and April 2018. The moderator of this Disney Rumors and News forum thought "random youtube channels" aren't a valid source of evidence and preferred to hear validation from Disney. I gave him the channel names, some with hundreds of thousands of subscribers and they've been on YouTube for years so he could validate I wasn't just making this up. Even when Solo performed at one-third the box office of Last Jedi this moderator REFUSED to acknowledge there ever was a boycott because Disney never confirmed the boycott. I'm sure to this day he'll tell you there was no Solo boycott.

If the moderator of "Disney Rumors and News" refuses to accept youtube channels as a legitimate source for rumors and wants confirmation from Disney then this is not really a "rumors" forum. Once Disney confirms a story it's not "rumor" it is "news". So you may as well change the name of the forum.

And, if it's not obvious, a company will never confirm they have been boycotted.

Why are you even complaining about this? The mod you are whining about stepped down. There is no mod now. Many people thought he was fair and the forum was well moderated. You did not. Move on. I don’t think this forum is really the right spot to be debating if a former mod was good or bad anyway.

I don’t think YouTube is a legitimate source for anything really. Star Wars fans are butt hurt about everything all the time.

Yeah, really there was no significant boycott of Solo. Did some fans skip it for certain "reasons"? Sure. Did it really impact the bottom line? I doubt it. It mostly had to do with coming out too soon after anotehr Star Wars movie, being sandwiched between Deadpool and Avengers, and just the general lack of enthusiasm for a recast Han Solo.

Despite all that, the movie was actually good and more like what the upset fans wanted, so skipping it was really cutting off their own noses.

I agree, "random youtube channels" aren't a legitimate source of information. A rumor wouldn't have to come from Disney itself, but it should come from a source that has some credibility. That'll be up to whoever becomes the moderator of this board to decide. There were plenty of rumors posted that didn't come directly from Disney so I don't think that was actually the line.

Just because people didn't go to see a movie doesn't mean it was boycotted.

There are a bunch of sci-fi related youtube channels with hundreds of thousands of subscribers that have 0% credibility. I know one channel run by an idiot who never shows his face, wears a costume mask, and calls himself the future ruler of earth who has cancelled Star Trek discovery every season (even before it aired) and fired the guy running the star trek franchise I don't know how many times. I'm sure he was one talking about the boycott. He also has less then zero credibility.
