The Frump Takes Over the World: Food Edition! A DR with Extra Magic! Update- 11/14

Just found this report- so excited because I LOVE Disney food. (Okay, who DOESN'T? lol) I have to admit that I haven't eaten at WPE but I am all over that mac and cheese when I go in August.

PS I was in WDW the same dates last year! :)

I like that you guys drive to Florida. Haha, makes my family not sound so wackadoo for driving too! We're in NYC, so we're 19 hours away, not including the same traffic we always hit around Wash DC and all those other places. I absolutely love getting farther down south. The hotel we stay at in NC has biscuits and gravy for breakfast, and I am a HUGE FAN.

Yeah it's quite the adventure but we do drive! I love getting further south too. It just feels like going home.

Personally, I totally think it's socially acceptable to eat guacamole with a spoon. I mean, if Paula Deen can go crazy with a stick of butter, we can do the same with guacamole! Plus, guac is way healthier anyway! Haha. I'm the kind of person who will order something on the menu just because it comes with guac or avocado on it. It's an addiction. Try smushed avocado on a toasted bagel ... DELICIOUS! It's what I use instead of cream cheese due to being lactose intolerant.

Yay for KIDANI! It has my all-time favorite restaurant ... Sanaa! Delish!

Can you finish that entire pizza from WPE? It looks SO good that I want to try it, but it'd only be for me because my husband doesn't like goat cheese.

That's a valid point! I am the same exact way. I'll have to try that bagel tip, sounds delish!

Yes! I love that place.

If I'm really hungry I can. I've done it before.

Yay, the TR begins!

I am loving your posts. Your photo's are awesome and your description of things has me right beside you all.

Wolfgang looked wonderful. I loved Scott modeling the Donald hat and shirt. Your Mom is so pretty, I love her smile. Your sister and you obviously have a good relationship, your photo's together are great!

Yes! Thank you so much!

He's a frump. She is beautiful, I know. :-) I love my little sis!

I am really enjoying all of your photo's. I think this TR has had the best photo's of the resort I've seen. Lightning through the lobby windows of that resort must have been so cool to see.

Looking forward to future posts. Thanks again for sharing. Read you soon. :surfweb:

Wow! Thank you so much! It was definitely cool.

You are so welcome!

We've never eaten at Rainforest Cafe and your pictures make me want to!

You definitely should! It's a lot of fun.

Subbing...all caught up...loving your review so far...can't wait to read more!

Thanks!

yay update!
NOMS everything looks so yummy. Like how can normal food even compare?

It can't.

Yum! Yum!! Yum! Great updates!!!

Thank you!

Wegmans has AWESOME asiago cheese bagels and I could seriously eat one every single day of my life. That one at Panera looks amazing.

Oh Kidani. STOP BEING SO PERFECT.

Excuse me while I die over your food from WPE.

I love Wegmans. It's perfect.

Oh I know right?

SO. YUMMY.

I am really enjoying your DR. Seeing your pictures and reading your descriptions really transports me back to WDW. You have completely sold me on the pizza at WPE. I can't wait to go back and to try it for myself!

Oh, and for what it's worth, I too would eat guacamole with a spoon if it was socially acceptable! And, like a PP, I find myself choosing items from the menu just because they have guacamole or avocado in them.

I'm off to read your previous TRs. I want read more about your adventures!

Thank you so much! It's sooo good.

Yes! It's just so good.

YAY! More updates are coming soon.

I'm with Sarah. That mac and cheese at WPE is so good!!!!!

It is!

YUM! Loving this spin on a TR! (Especially since you are telling us more than just about the food!)

Thank you!

Only 3 updates?? Slacker :rotfl2:

Is it wrong that I spent a large amount of time looking for Hidden Mickeys in the Fruit Loops photo? :confused3

I don't know if there is anything more uplifiting than seeing that WDW sign coupled with the Angel harp music (that I know everybody hears) as you drive underneath. Perfection!!!!

Loving it thus far. Thanks for including some regular TR stuff along with the DR stuff. :thumbsup2

LOL.

Not at all hahah.

It really is.

Thank you so much!

Geez i thought our nine hour flight was a pain, a 20 hour road trip, kudos!!

Aaaah I'm so glad you stayed at Kidani, my family and I are staying there for the first time with our DVC points in December and I'm so excited after seeing your pictures! We've got a standard view too, I was really disappointed we couldn't get a savannah but after seeing your view I'm hopeful! :)

Your WGP pictures are making me so hungry, we plan on eating there on our first night, I can't wait to try that pizza, the mac and cheese looks amazing too. The rainforest cafe is amazing too! I miss disney food so much!

Haha, it's an ambitious trek.

Oh you are going to LOVE it! I hope you get a nice view.

Definitely a great first night place!

Enjoying your report! WPE is our must do place every time we visit.

And we have a Panera Bread near us and I've never stepped food in there. Those bagels looks incredible. I think I'm gonna make a stop in there soon, just for research of course.;)

Thank you!

Definitely do!

Hi!

I hope you don't mind me subscribing, I am loving all of the foodie info and WPE is definitely on my list now, the food looks AMAZING!!

Plus, it's getting me really excited about my next trip to the World in 105 days!!

Sophie x

I don't mind at all, have a magical trip!

Oh my gosh, I am so excited for all the FOOD!!!! And to hear about what a wonderful vacation your family had and all of that...

Great report so far. Love all the food pictures and Kidani looks absolutely beautiful

Chapter 4: Our Magical Morning!

August 16th, 2012

Hello everyone! So sorry about my extended absence, life has been so crazy! In the last few weeks I have finished school, finals, had Prom, graduation, my last play and a stomach flu. And I got my wisdom teeth out this week, so you could say that things have not been entirely too pleasant. However, it gives me a chance to do some updates before I go to Disney in just 5 DAYS!!! I can't even believe it. I'm so excited!!!!!! I hope I'm feeling better in time. Anyway, I've gotta get a move on on this DR so I can finally start my Christmas trip report before this Christmas! And then stay tuned for my Disneyland TR and probably another DR for my THREE WEEK trip this August! As for the trip next week, Jess will be including our adventures in her CP Diary, so check it out there! And now, on with August!

------------------------------------------------------------------

We woke up on our first full Disney day and headed to the Magic Kingdom!

dsc09971c.jpg

We had a wonderful morning that consisted of Neverland, Eeyore's Gloomy Place, and a Mad Tea Party.

dsc09974fq.jpg

dsc09975m.jpg

dscn1700g.jpg

We also checked out the new Dumbo. Sarah, who is a HUGE Dumbo fan, was freaking out. From the peanuts in the pavement (seriously, the genius) to the fountains and new play while you wait area, she was thrilled.

dscn1703c.jpg

We also had to ride the Barnstormer.

dsc00022dr.jpg

The subtle humor. I love it.

Going up!

dsc00023xh.jpg

We also had some Tomorrowland fun, which included the Carousel of Progress, Buzz (on which Sarah's score was ridiculously high and she had no idea how she was doing it) and a ride on the TTA!

dsc000312t.jpg

dscn1705f.jpg

Soon it was time for lunch, so it was off to Liberty Square and the Columbia Harbour House!

dsc00047na.jpg

dsc00053ea.jpg

Mom got the Fried Shrimp Platter, which was fresh and yummy!

dsc00055ft.jpg

Scott enjoyed the Broccoli Peppercorn Salad, which was a nice deviation from your typical salad.

dsc00059rl.jpg

Sarah got the Fried Fish Platter, which she loved!

dsc00060uo.jpg

I got the salmon with couscous and broccoli, which was delicious! Such a great CS option. It was so good! So fresh and tasty.

dsc00062ma.jpg

We enjoyed the Disney signature CS chocolate cake and the not-so-common apple crisp for our desserts.

dsc00065ii.jpg

dsc00068dao.jpg

After lunch, we hit up my favorite attraction, the beloved Haunted Mansion.

dsc00069au.jpg

Yes that is a Haunted Mansion bow. :-)

dsc00080yw.jpg

I love hanging out in the graveyard.

After we said hello to my grinning ghost friends, we did some Emporium shopping and headed back to Kidani.

dscn1717b.jpg

Once we got back, Scott and Sarah headed down to the pool for a swim while Mom and I walked around the resort and visited the pool bar to fill our mugs.

dsc00119wy.jpg

It was moderately busy at the pool. Typical summer afternoon.

dsc00127tbe.jpg

Scott and Sarah were having a blast on the pool slide!

dsc00130v.jpg

dsc00131pfp.jpg

After a while we went back up, got cleaned up and headed off to EPCOT!

dsc00132eo.jpg

Thanks for the update, Kristen. And congrats on your graduation.

Enjoy your upcoming trip. Only 62 days for us. Can't wait.

Chapter 5: San Angel Inn A-MAH-zingness

August 16th, 2012

Our first TS meal in Disney was a new one for us, San Angel Inn!

dscn1719s.jpg

We had a lovely waterside table!

Check out these plates. I want them. They're beautiful:

dsc00168mc.jpg

Our server was Javier and he was wonderful! Very attentive and friendly. He made great recommendations as well. He brought us some chips and salsa to start out with. Such a delicious (and not as filling) alternative to the traditional bread basket.

dsc00167zv.jpg

For Scott's entree, he went with the Chile Relleno, which is Poblano peppers stuffed with pork, pine nuts, almonds, and topped with a roasted tomato sauce.

dsc00169qf.jpg

He is STILL raving about this meal. I tasted it and I can totally see why. Th flavors were so unique! There was a perfect balance of spicy and sweet, with a smoky undertone from the tomato sauce. It was an excellent choice. We have an ADR here for this coming August and he is already looking forward to ordering this again.

Mom and Sarah both went with the Carne Asada a la Tampiquena, which is grilled beef tenderloin served with a cheese enchilada, black refried beans, red bell peppers, onions, mexican rice and guacamole. They thought this was delicious. Definitely too much food for my sister, though. She couldn't finish. A great variety of things to sample, though! And Sarah loved the flavor of the steak most of all.

dsc00172jd.jpg

For my entree, I went with the Traditional Mexican Dinner. It came with an appetizer, which was the Tostadas de Tinga.

dsc00178gd.jpg

These were pulled chicken tostadas seasoned with roasted tomato and chipotle, served with black refried beans, green tomatillo sauce, queso fresco and sour cream. These were so good! The meat was tender and the topping was yummy all together.

My entree was something I'm a big fan of when they're done right. The Tacos de Pescado, or fish tacos, which are served with chipotle-lime aioli, cabbage, lime and green tomatillo sauce, all over flour tortillas.

dsc00174za.jpg

dsc00175.JPG

Oh my gosh, these were perfect! So fresh and full of flavor. I loved them. I want them now.

For dessert, Mom and Scott went with the Natilla de Cajeta, which is a caramelized custard cream with seasonal berries. They thought this was very interesting and yummy! Definitely unique, but in a very good way.

dsc00183vm.jpg

Sarah went with Helada de Dulce de Leche, which is caramel ice cream. She loved it! Creamy and delish.

dsc00185af.jpg

My dessert was the Crema Bavaria, which is creamy Bavarian mousse served with mixed berries, cinnamon and orange liqueur. It was such a great assortment of flavors. Very unique. I loved it!

dsc00186sy.jpg

dsc00187cc.jpg

All in all, this was an excellent meal and we cannot wait to go back. I was a little leery because of the mixed reviews, but they were all put to rest for me. I definitely recommend it if you're up for a unique experience and deliciously authentic food.

After dinner, we had to visit our Caballeros!

dsc00188tv.jpg

Me gusta Mexico.

dscn1729k.jpg

dsc00206mv.jpg

That evening, there were some really interesting clouds over World Showcase lagoon.

dsc00217qy.jpg

dsc00218bt.jpg

Happy camper waiting for Illuminations:
dsc00249yk.jpg

We watched Illuminations from Germany, which is a great spot.

dscn1756k.jpg

dscn1757qa.jpg

dscn1761r.jpg

After that, we called it a night. It was back to EPCOT in the morning!

Chapter 6: MEAT LOVERS UNITE!

August 17th, 2012

It was a bright and beautiful morning and we hightailed it back on over to EPCOT!

dsc00265ts.jpg

dsc00270r.jpg

It really doesn't get much better than this.

dscn1765kl.jpg

Ah August crowds...

dscn1766pf.jpg

...Or lack thereof.

First order of business was Soarin' FP's, of course, and then some breakfast at Seasons!

dsc00294.JPG

dscn1769rg.jpg

Sarah went with a cinnamon roll, which of course hit the spot for the little sugar monster.

dsc00287qu.jpg

Scott went with the traditional fruit cup.

dsc00290nz.jpg

Mom and I went with my all-time favorite item at Seasons, the Croissant Berry Pudding.

dsc00288u.jpg

It's like bread pudding, but made from a delicious croissant. And there are warm berries. IT'S SO FREAKIN GOOD.

dsc00291qq.jpg

HELLLOOOO yum.

After we fueled up, we did some EPCOT exploring!

dsc00306dz.jpg

dsc00295jk.jpg

After a frumpy morning of Soarin', Living with the Land, The Living Seas (with Nemo and friends, of course), Spaceship Earth, Figment, and my parents being WAY too amused with ImageWorks, we headed to the World Showcase!

dsc00344gy.jpg

We explored some Canadian shops and said hello to some furry friends.

dsc00345rn.jpg

Then we checked in for our lunch ADR and made our way down past the gardens and into the cool, comfortable relief of the not-a-single-bar-of-service wine cellar that is so appropriately named Le Cellier!

dsc00347zp.jpg

dscn1788fx.jpg

We were seated after about five minutes of waiting in Ontario. We ordered smoothies all around and were given the Pretzel Bread. Yes, JUST Pretzel Bread. And lots of it. We just tell them not to bother with the other two breads because let's face it, they are the ugly stepsisters to the Cinderella charm of the Pretzel Bread's delightfulness. We also ordered a bowl of Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup to do the ol' Dunk & Share. YUMMO.

dscn1790h.jpg

dscn1791b.jpg

For our entrees, stop even wondering what we ordered. It was Mushroom Filets for everyone!

dsc00364mh.jpg

LET THEM EAT STEAK.

Ah the filet. So wonderfully melt-in-your-mouth tender. AND THE RISOTTO. Have you ever tasted anything so delicious in all your days of living and chewing!?

I thought not.

Well obviously we devoured all that, and then went with getting two of the Chocolate Moose (not pictured due to being to delicious to take a picture of before consuming at a rapid and potentially illegal in Socialist countries pace) and two of the White Chocolate Nanaimo-Something Bar/Cheesecake I Don't Even Know What Because It's Not on the Menu Anymore, which was also delicious but not comparable to the perfection of the Moose.

dscn1802br.jpg

Happy Canadian Camper:
dsc00377at.jpg

Watch out! Eeyore's a-sippin on your smoothie, Sar.

dsc00378jb.jpg

After lunch we did a Mouse Gear run, and then it was back to Kidani!

so I just started reading this and I am completely hooked! I love your photos and way of storytelling. definitely in for more :)
ps: I'm xo_kaela on twitter and princesskaelaxo on instagram, just so you know this isn't some random person haha

Chapter 7: Pucking and Dole Whip Emergencies

August 17th, 2012

This may or may not be my last update until I get back from Disney, depending on how much time I have between now and when I leave. Here's a little background on the upcoming trip though, just in case it is!

I am flying to Orlando in just FIVE DAYS with Nat and Vickie (whom you all should know from previous trip reports) and our friends Alicia and Maggie (who are also fabulous and whom you will know soon! They have been in a few real-life updates in the past). Our flight is at 6 A.M. and we're meeting Jess at MCO and taking our Magical Express to Art of Animation, where we will be staying in a Cars Suite for a week! EEEP I'M SO EXCITED. We will be on the DDP as well. Here are our ADR's:

~ Hoop-De-Doo (MY FAVE)
~ 'Ohana (HECK YES)
~ Sci-Fi
~ Be Our Guest (Oh the perfection)
~ Cinderella's Royal Table (It's a girls trip with Vick! We had to!)
~ Chef Mickey's
~ 50's Prime Time Café
~ Via Napoli (Viva Italian Waiters)

In addition to the four theme parks, we will also be visiting both water parks! Jess and I are also looking forward to seeing some awesome DIS people who will be down there when we are, like Joni (therussells) and Marissa (MarDgreen)! It's going to be SO MUCH FUN! I can't wait!

And now, on with the August noms!

------------------------------------------------------------

You may have noticed that Mom and I were wearing the same dress that day. We like to match sometimes. We think we're really precious.

dsc00389yp.jpg

dsc00390p.jpg

While we were at Kidani, everyone napped except me. Typical. I filled out some postcards to friends back home and one to some awesome DISkids, Jake and Mallory. I mailed those and putzed around Kidani for a bit.

dsc00394um.jpg

Pretty soon it was up and at 'em and off to Downtown Disney!

The parents and Sarah went shopping around while I went to Guest Relations to get a replacement Annual Pass. The ribbon was worn out on mine. Frequent Disney-goer problems. I wasn't mad, but I am glad that the new RFID AP's are plastic. THANK GOD.

After that problem was fixed I walked around Tren-D, Team Mickey and World of Disney, and eventually met up with my parents and Sarah at Wolfgang Puck Express for dinner.

We just cannot get enough of this place.

Mom went with something she'd been eyeing for a long time, the Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf.

dsc00398nw.jpg

dsc00399c.jpg

She thought it was good! Not like the meatloaf she's used to, but hey, it was bacon-wrapped and there were mashed potatoes. You can't really go wrong there.

Sarah went with the Barbecued Chicken Pizza, which is now tied with the mac and cheese for her favorite meal at WPE. She loved it!

dsc00400ax.jpg

dsc00401yb.jpg

Scott was still full from Le Cellier, as he finished Sarah's meal as well as eating his own. So he just chilled while we ate. And for my entree, I went with the Margherita Pizza this time!

dsc00403wo.jpg

dsc00404de.jpg

This was delicious! Definitely not as good as my beloved Four Cheese Pesto Heaven-On-Earth Nirvana Pizza, but still very yummy! Probably tied for second in the WPE pizza department, along with Sarah's BBQ Chicken one.

For dessert, Sarah went with a chocolate chip cookie, while Mom and I had the delicious WPE crème brûlée!

dsc00405mm.jpg

dsc00407nm.jpg

A CS with delicious crème brûlée. You just can't beat it.

After dinner we went to the pin store and traded on the giant pin board! Then we went in Tren-D and Team Mickey again. After that, we hopped on a Contemporary bus and then took the Monorail to MK from there!

Pinventory:
dsc00411ry.jpg

Blue hour:
dsc00419z.jpg

The first order of business at MK was at the Chapeau! Sarah got her Frump Jr. Mousekears!

dscn1806e.jpg

We shopped around the Emporium, and then headed off to Liberty Square.

dscn1815h.jpg

Scott and Mom headed to Columbia Harbour House because Scott was finally feeling hungry enough to eat some dinner. He got the Lobster Roll, which they neglected to take a picture of. Tsk tsk.

Sarah and I could not accompany them on account of the fact that Tiana AND NAVEEN were out.

EXCITEMENT ENSUED.

dsc00427bn.jpg

dsc00428dp.jpg

dsc00431b.jpg

The character attendant with Tiana and Naveen noticed my nails and pointed them out to the royal couple, which sparked a conversation. Naveen hugged me like three times, which was weird (but I am SO not complaining) and Tiana had me explain all my nails to them. Naveen was so suave and I would so take him if Tiana decided to join a convent or something. He's perfect.

dsc00433yj.jpg

dsc00434e.jpg

dsc00435he.jpg

We met with the parents and rode Pirates, my beloved Jungle Cruise, and then we watched Wishes from the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse! It was quite hot up there, due to stuffiness, lack of air circulation, and the fact that heat rises, so we were all in desperate need of Dole Whips when Wishes was over.

dsc00451rr.jpg

dsc00455mw.jpg

dsc00456or.jpg

Yum. You can't go wrong with a Dole Whip. They really cooled us down and hit the spot.

We rounded out our night with The Magic, the Memories, and You, a coffee run to Sleepy Hollow, Mickey's Philharmagic, it's a small world, and a shopping excursion in Sir Mickey's. After that, we headed back to Kidani and hit the hay.

Goodnight, Magic Kingdom!

Wonderful posts! Ahh the Le Cellier filet.. Oh how I yearn to try it!! Just not sure it will live up to my expectations!

Oh yes! I know who you are haha. Thanks for joining in! :thumbsup2

Love your updates...a great Friday afternoon read! Not sure we're going to have room for WPE on our Sept trip but every time I see that bacon-wrapped meatloaf I take another look at my ADR schedule to see if we could fit it in!
Also...your SAI review has me rethinking my Epcot meal choices...decisions, decisions! :)

Yeah I'd day you've been busy but you always seem to make up for it with mega updates.

Congratulations on graduation and have a super awesome (like it could be anything but) trip next week. :goodvibes

Now if they would just add Tim Hortons to Le Cellier (or Canada pavilion in general) it'd be perfection. :cloud9:

Sorry to leave you so conflicted! If you end up having room though, I would definitely recommend them both!

I try my best! Only four this time...but maybe I'll try to get a couple more in before I go.

Thank you so much!

Have to disagree with you there...there isn't anything culturally or cuisine-related that is "Canada" about Tim Hortons. Hence why we have them in the States as well. JMO.

The Eeyore picture :lovestruc

San Angel Inn...but where is the guacamole? ;)

Beautiful pictures of Epcot! Ugh I miss it so much :(

I saw that pic of you and your mom on your Instagram and I was like..cool it will be ok to match my mom in Disney if I decide :P

That is def the same Naveen I met last January. I wouldn't complain either if he hugged me 3 times.

He was a straight-up hunk, I wasn't mad at all.
