The Frozen take over... My vent

Wrong on both accounts. The revised crowd predictors have gone up for my entire vacation for every park, not just DHS. Prior to Frozen being announced our WORST day was a 3, now our BEST day is a 4 our worst is a 6.

Was watching the TP wait times app closely yesterday for DHS. TSMM was at 65 minutes two minutes after opening and RaRC was in its usual 45-70 minute wait all day

You don't know that it's Frozen that is causing crowd predictors to come up across the board. TP just increased the crowd predictions for our trip in November as well...got the notice about it around the same time Frozen was announced. Supposedly this Frozen special event won't be still happening in November, so it definitely wasn't the cause for the increase in our days.

It could just be that TP were revising *all* of their crowd predictions, and the release of those new predictions just happened to coincide with the release of the Frozen special event stuff.

I'm completely puzzled by the Frozen popularity too and I have seen the movie. It was decent but to me the only appealing characters were Anna and Olaf and the story was just so-so.

However, this could actually work to one's advantage! It might just decrease the crowds at some of the other attractions in DHS plus help an already overly strained MK. At least one would hope.

Me too...the story seemed to have some holes and it seemed rushed. I had a hard time believing Prince Hans was bad...it was like they went from one extreme to the other with him trying to force him on you as a bad guy. I felt like the rock trolls where just thrown in the storyline with a young Kristoff and we are just supposed to believe the have a long relationship, but they show very little interaction. They could have definitely developed that storyline and made the movie flow better, but with all that said the music is great and all 3 kids love it(both my boys 7&3 and dd9). I like what they are doing in HS b/c I feel like it is a park with very little to offer and this bulks it up a little. I hope it sticks around for our next trip. I don't see how adding anything extra at a park is annoying...yes it is more crowded, but it is summer at WDW it is going to be crowded. It is nice they are offering more choices...I feel like WDW hasn't been doing a great job at offering things that really increase your enjoyment level and this is a step in the right direction.

I can see from your signature that your last visit was in 2004, before crowd predictions became widely used. I have to say that it has been VERY common for crowd calendars to change, especially if you started your vacation planning months ago. I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers change again before your trip.

As for 65 minute wait for Tsmm just after opening? It was July fourth, a date with very high attendance. The lines will usually be an hour just after opening anyway.

These are common occurrences that I doubt have been caused by Frozen Summer Fun.

These are things that would have occurred without the Frozen Summer Fun. Most of those activities, except for the mini parade (easily avoided) and the fireworks (likewise), are inside the Premiere Theater and Sounstage One.

You take your child and enjoy Pixar Place, Disney Jr. Live, etc. and have a good time. Relax about this other stuff.

But what do I know? I'm just a Touring Plans subscriber, easywdw reader, multiple year annual pass holder (not current however), 30+ time visitor since 2000, mother of 2.

My point on TSMM is it routinely has long wait times seconds after opening, the Frozen stuff happening simultaneously didnt make those waits any less.

We're coming in October so unless the Frozen stuff gets extended, we'll miss it. However, will put in my comments...at least for us.
My DD is a major Frozen fan (and is actually watching the movie for the ump-teenth time right now as I am writing this). I plan on trying for A&E FP for her early morning when our FP day opens up. But I have already planned out our HS day and even if the Frozen was here, I wouldn't plan our whole day around it for a few reasons

1. Our day is already fully booked as there are tons of HS attractions in our 'to do' list
2. We also have a DS9, so would not be fair to him

Having said that, I think it's cool that they have added fireworks (which I assume is after Fantasmic) and a parade is a bonus too.

But I can see some families with all chidren being Frozen fans taking advantage.

As for crowd levels, I think it's a good thing for A&E meet and greet as this may lessen the crowd there. Plus, although HS may be busier, it may not make the rides / attractions that much busier if they are all at Frozen activities (but haven't looked into details too much since it currently doesn't match our travel dates).

On a holiday weekend where crowds can reach capacity - that's not surprising to me.

Whatever effect, if any, is more likely to happen on a non-holiday weekend.

I get that, but if you look at the crowd history on TP for the last week of August over the last 3 years, there has never been an actual weekday crowd larger than 3. This year DHS has a 6 predicted and making it a larger anticipated crowd than at the MK. Quite simply unheard of previously.

Nope. I have an annual pass and I have tried most things on property that people rave about. You don't hear me venting about how Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is lacking in the food department and consists of a soulless performance of a once proud show. Or that it can only be enjoyed by Yankees and those from other countries.

Seriously, I get people saying what they like or don't like about an event. Or what they like about a movie or don't like but the OP had not watched the movie or taken in the experience inside the park. It would be like me complaining about Universal's Daigon Alley since I have seen only a handful of the movies and haven't stepped foot in the park. Just conjuring up a reason to vent like you are a precog for having a bad time (subtle Minority Report reference):

As for the fact that I haven't seen the movie - Thats quite inconsequential. I'm an adult. I'm not going to go nuts for a character in a park no matter how much I enjoyed a movie they were featured in. I have a tattoo of Snow White on my forearm - I think shes drawn beautifully (though that voice ) but would I ever stand in line for even 5 minutes let alone 3 hours to get her autograph? Nope.

And I respect and enjoy the fact that Disney is going ahead with the new, and not just ignoring the movies they are putting out - Kinda like they have with the last few Princess movies - However, its the amount they are putting on, every single day this summer, all in one park, is what gets me. If I'm lucky, it will not effect the lines to the rides and attractions that we love to much, and I, along with many others, will be happy. If I'm wrong, and because of all this, DHS is beyond crazy... Then we will be quite disappointed.

So then you should know that the crowd calendars change regularly.

I agree Frozen Summer Fun won't make waits for attractions any less. How could it? It doesn't start until later. And all the people who have their FP+ and made their park plans aren't going to change them because of Frozen.

But to take the time to post that I should do something else with my time, rather than this, is kinda sad and a true waste of time.

I apologize if you thought my comment was directed at you. It was not. It was directed at a PP who seemed to be arguing that people can complain about whatever they want (in the abstract) (see post #23). I don't even know what the point of that argument was. Of course they can ... or they can do something else with their time. That's all.

You're venting on a message board. My previous post (see post #17) (before the one you quoted) sums up how I feel about the Frozen additions. I legitimately don't know what there is to be annoyed about or why it's surprising that Disney is capitalizing on the success of this movie.

BUT ... I'm not really into DHS anyway, so the Frozen stuff wouldn't interfere with anything for me. It's hard to put myself in your shoes because realistically, we can spend ... like 2 hours in DHS before we want to leave.

Regardless, I meant no offense to you. I shouldn't have said it anyway because it's a pointless argument, and I shouldn't have gotten drawn into it. I know better.

I understand that...but this is also the first summer of resort-wide access to Magic Bands and FP+. The pre-planning of FP+s is, to an extent, changing how people tour (which is pretty much what Disney wanted...more locking in). People are planning 2 epcot days (or at least two 1/2 days) now, where they might have only done 1 before, so they can have FP+ for Soarin' and TT. Same could possibly be said for DHS and TSMM/RnRC. TP doesn't have any previous years worth of data to pull from for predicting how all of this might affect their crowd predictions.

Basically, now that MM+ is resort wide to on and off site guests both, I'm taking all crowd predictions with a grain of salt as there is just not a lot of data for them to pull from with this new take on touring added to the mix.

I am not sure why Frozen is such a hit with the kids either, but I have 2 sixteen year olds that are big fans. I agree with some of the previous posters, this will probably have a positive impact on (edited to add: STANDBY ) ride lines, but perhaps negative effect on overall crowds in the park, CS locations, washrooms, ect. A good disboarder will know how to navigate these problems, and make the most out of the pluses too.

I think that some people are hoping that many of those who would have lined up to ride something will go take part in some of the Frozen activities instead. I agree that it shouldn't affect FP+ users though.

BINGO. This was my very first thought.

TP uses ride wait times figuring their crowd predictions. The addition of FP+ to so many rides has really turned their model on its ear.

I would love to say a few things as to why Frozen is such a hit (as per above) and to why I'm glad this is happening (in this same post because of my general laziness).

1) As a queer man, Elsa's struggle spoke to me. And it speaks to other people who have felt disenfranchised and locked away. Not since Belle have I felt so akin to a Disney princess in a sea of Disney movies that I find either just charming, lackluster, boring, or outright offensive.

2) DHS is my favorite park right now. It doesn't get enough love. It's often overlooked, like people are just ticking it off of their list when they go. Anything that can be done to revitalize somewhere I have such fond memories of so when I return, I can continue to have fond memories- I'm all there for.

3) It is nice to see Disney trying to keep in touch with their fan base. While I do wish rare characters (Hi Bernard and Bianca!) would get some love, at least Disney is not just a dinosaur resting on its laurels. It's trying to connect, and not just for profit this tine like I've seen the Company bashed on here quite frequently.

4) Will someone be a dear and grab me an Elsa and an Olaf magic band while there in DHS?

The movie is cute, but IMHO not worth all the hysteria. No way in heck would I wait 3+ hours to see characters. I also think much of the hysteria has become parent driven. Competitive parenting takes over..you have to get little Susie an Elsa dress because the girl next door has one.

I tell you, if I could sew, I'd be making crazy money.

Stereotypes is always fair game and as someone who resides in the south we are actually asked these stereotypes often. No, my parents are from differing regions and thus my tree has separating branches. "WE DID IT!"

Again, you are trying to vent prior to seeing a movie or how a park actually is operating on the inside. You purposefully have created a thread to vent about your preconceived notions. This is obviously par for the course on most of the whiner threads I've seen on here. People who have their vacations ruined before stepping foot on property. It's a narcissistic view to think satisfying one customer will ruin your experience.

I guess people should complain if they are not Christians about all the "Christmas Stuff" in park.
