The Frozen take over... My vent

Frozen is not my favorite, but I do not agree it is a takeover of Hollywood Studios and it doesn't bother me.

Like anything else, it is up to me to plan a vacation that myself and family enjoys. For the money, Disney is an outstanding value for us and still packed with fun filled memories. Do we like everything Disney does, no, but we make concessions just about everywhere we go and Disney remains a family favorite.

If you have booked a table at a restaurant which adds a new dish that causes it to become busy, you don't get to complain because you preferred it as an empty restaurant.

Wrong. People can complain about anything they want. :confused3

I don't think its quite accurate to compare a theme park, to a restaurant. Unless there are only 4 restaurants in all of Disney World, and about a million people trying to cram into them.

I will admit that I've never seen the movie (though I just bought it as a surprise for my girls to watch on the drive down, so I may sneak and watch it beforehand). My inlaws took my girls to see it, and while they really enjoyed it, said it was a great movie, that was it. No "life changing experience" or anything, and no real talk about it weeks or even days later. I'm truly astonished by the craze its made in the parks, and merchandising. Is it really that amazing of a movie that people are going this nuts over it?! The ones staying up to make the midnight FP+ selections for the M&G in MK are one thing, but now its taking over DHS.... I have to admit that I'm kind of annoyed with it. Now I'm stuck worring that our one day at DHS is going to be totally over-run with all the Frozen Fanatics trying to get in all the Frozen experiences. And oh my goodness I can't believe HOW MANY things they are doing in DHS - It truely is taking over the park! My only hope is that the other rides will be normal or even slower because of it all. But the QS restaurants are surely to be crazy.... Okay, so that was my vent. I love going to Disney, and while I enjoy the Disney of my youth, I totally understand and appreciate them changing with the times. Having said that, I can't help but feel that this is overkill with Frozen. JMHO and I'm sure there are people who 100% agree with me, and I'm sure there are people who 100% disagree with me. :goodvibes
Agreed! I saw the movie and yes it was good but not best disney movie by any means!!

I'll join the rant...honestly, we watched the movie but found it to be perhaps the weakest of ALL Disney's animated movies. The characters were wooden, storylines were shoe-horned in (I'm looking at you, trolls), it felt rushed, the songs were not memorable and in some cases downright annoying (Love is An Open Door for one, and I detest the sound of Idina Menzel's voice so let it Go is torture to me). Olaf was cute, but even he felt crammed into the story to satisfy some animated film story formula. NOW...that aside, just because I think it was mediocre AT BEST, doesn't mean others didn't think it was the bees knees. Clearly I am in the minority. I rolled my eyes and groaned when they announced the Frozen additions to the parks, but I searched for the silver lining...which is it will siphon crowds away from the things I DO enjoy. So, for that, I'm okay with it all.

Couldn't agree more. My sisters and I saw it together (since it was about sisters!) and we were all three of us, meh...until Olaf started talking...then we just wanted it to end. We voted Olaf the most annoying disney character ever created.

Horrible analogy. I haven't pre-paid thousands of dollars to go to said restaurant, had to request specific days off of work for, had to plan on a dog sitter to stay at my house, and had to work around other family members' summer schedule to eat there.

Or they can do something else with their time ...

So sorry if my post offended you. If you think its a waste of my time to even make the post, why would you be bothered to comment at all? :confused3 Just to tell me that I'm wasting my time. :rotfl2: You don't like the post, then don't like it, thats fine. As I said in the bottom of my original post, I said its JMHO. Some people may agree with it, some may not. But to take the time to post that I should do something else with my time, rather than this, is kinda sad :sad2: and a true waste of time.

Venting about a company making one of their most popular franchises of recent years a big deal? People not too long ago were throwing tantrums that Disney wasn't doing anything about 5 hour waits for meet and greets. Now, they do something amazing for those fans that they will be satisfied and their children can go home happy and people vent about overkill?

Honestly, I think Disney fans may be the worst lot of entitled malcontents on the planet. I say that because "I can complain about anything I want."

I'm completely puzzled by the Frozen popularity too and I have seen the movie. It was decent but to me the only appealing characters were Anna and Olaf and the story was just so-so.

However, this could actually work to one's advantage! It might just decrease the crowds at some of the other attractions in DHS plus help an already overly strained MK. At least one would hope.

Of course you can...and you may even be right. It's a darned if you do, darned if you don't scenario. I doubt the folks complaining about the lack of Frozen stuff in the parks are the same ones complaining about the overload of Frozen now, but as you can see Disney can't please everyone LOL!

This is a problem much more general at WDW these days than it is specifically related to the Frozen events. They do lots of things long after you have your plans set that alter the effectiveness of your planning, many of them that do a lot worse than bump a day from a 1 to a 4.

Fight the power OP!!! Right there with ya! DHS is guaranteed to be my lil' guy's favorite park (Buzz, Woody, Mike, Sully, Ralph AND all the DisJr characters...mind blown) and the day we plan to be there went from a crowd prediction of a 1 to a 4. Also reading accounts online this phenomenon also brings out the worst in people with awful behavior.

To the poster who said its no win, you are wrong. They simply need to start announcing things more than 180 days out. Then I would have known about it and not booked our vacation for this summer.

Also you can forget about it taking the crowds away from any attractions. By 9:02 yesterday standby for TSMM was 65 minutes.

I loathe the Frozen phenomenon.

I can see from your signature that your last visit was in 2004, before crowd predictions became widely used. I have to say that it has been VERY common for crowd calendars to change, especially if you started your vacation planning months ago. I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers change again before your trip.

As for 65 minute wait for Tsmm just after opening? It was July fourth, a date with very high attendance. The lines will usually be an hour just after opening anyway.

These are common occurrences that I doubt have been caused by Frozen Summer Fun.

These are things that would have occurred without the Frozen Summer Fun. Most of those activities, except for the mini parade (easily avoided) and the fireworks (likewise), are inside the Premiere Theater and Sounstage One.

You take your child and enjoy Pixar Place, Disney Jr. Live, etc. and have a good time. Relax about this other stuff.

But what do I know? I'm just a Touring Plans subscriber, easywdw reader, multiple year annual pass holder (not current however), 30+ time visitor since 2000, mother of 2.

While I do agree that there need to be points in the planning process where Disney doesn't change things like operating hours (esp once you hit the 60 day window for FP+), I don't know that just "not going this summer" would help you in this instance.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this Frozen stuff around next summer, TBH. If it's not Frozen, it may be whatever Disney's next craze is. Maybe it won't be as crazy as Frozen has been, but maybe it will. Disney seems intent on creating these smaller-scale (easier to create/implement in shorter times) special event type experiences...the Frozen stuff, the 24 hr parties, the Villains night, etc....I only see it increasing in the future, so for *me*, it wouldn't be worth it to put off a trip to the following year b/c whatever they do next year could be just the same as this year, or it could cause even more crowds than this year.

The movie is cute, but IMHO not worth all the hysteria. No way in heck would I wait 3+ hours to see characters. I also think much of the hysteria has become parent driven. Competitive parenting takes over..you have to get little Susie an Elsa dress because the girl next door has one.

I tell you, if I could sew, I'd be making crazy money. :rolleyes1

I think people complaining just need to let it go. If you don't like it you can go somewhere Elsa. Try to have some fun Olaf go to a different park. I guess it's just the crowd's never bothered me anyway.

Nope. I have an annual pass and I have tried most things on property that people rave about. You don't hear me venting about how Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is lacking in the food department and consists of a soulless performance of a once proud show. Or that it can only be enjoyed by Yankees and those from other countries. :rotfl:

Seriously, I get people saying what they like or don't like about an event. Or what they like about a movie or don't like but the OP had not watched the movie or taken in the experience inside the park. It would be like me complaining about Universal's Daigon Alley since I have seen only a handful of the movies and haven't stepped foot in the park. Just conjuring up a reason to vent like you are a precog for having a bad time (subtle Minority Report reference):
