We woke up to face our last FULL day at Disney with Epcot on the mind. We didn’t feel majorly skippy because we were so tired from the rainy and cold MNSSHP that we had endured the night before. We grabbed a granola bar from our stash for breakfast and I began the task of unpacking the soaked backpack. Our cameras were fried. FRIED I tell ya. Mr. Frick decided that they just might need a good drying out so we took the digital camera apart and hung the pieces out to dry.
We headed out for the gorgeous walk to the International Gateway. Ugh, I started getting sad as we greeted our last full day. I decided not to let that get me down though and I focused on being grateful for even getting to be there. So what if we were leaving the next day, at least I wasn’t sitting at home reliving a Disney day through someone’s trip report!
Our boys love, love, love Innoventions West. Or is it East? For the life of me I can’t remember but we like the side that has the robots that you can build and race. That is like the ultimate in fun for them. Mr. Frick digs it too, so I let them head for the robot races and I went to get FastPasses for Test Track and then I headed to Mouse Gear to see what needed to go home with me.
I enjoy shopping at Mouse Gear. I seriously enjoy shopping at MouseGear without my children and without my husband. I knew the robots would take a while, so I leisurely strolled around and oooohed and aaaahed over all the cute things. For some reason, I was strangely attracted to the key chains. Last year it was cereal bowls, this year it was the key chains. I had already purchased a cute little pink mickey head key chain for myself and I was itching to get something else.
As I stood mesmerized at the gazillion dangly things I could hook to my keys, this sweet little old lady in a wheelchair beside me struck up a conversation. She did all the talking. I did all the listening. I would have spoken more than I did, but I couldn’t get a word in. Anyhow, after hearing about her son’s family that she was there with, her other grandchildren and her last hip replacement - I had decided on buying Mr. Frick a cool key chain. Yeah, that’s the ticket. I would buy him a key chain and he would love looking at it every day as he went to his car and he would think “Oh this key chain brings back so many fond memories of Disney that I want to go again!” See how smart I am?
I paid for the key chain and headed out to find my guys. They had just finished their race and were building their robots. I called Mr. Frick over and told him that I had a little present for him. I pulled the key chain out of the bag for him to feast his eyes upon. You would have thought I had just given him a ticket to Disney on Ice, or a gift certificate to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or a UGA t-shirt. He did the nervous laugh/talk/whiny thing he does where he said “Baby, I’ve already got a key chain”. I stood there and thought about how that gift really was SO wrong for him. Seriously wrong. I could see him in the locker room with ’the guys’ and them making fun of him for having a key chain with Mickey Mouse on it. I told him it was for our Jeep. Yeah, it was for the Jeep. We had just gotten an old Jeep to run around in and the key chain could be fun for the Jeep, because the Jeep is fun! He agreed he could handle that cute blue Mickey Mouse head hanging from his Jeep keys, so all was good. Phew.
After a long stay at Innoventions East/West, we decided to dine somewhere in the World Showcase. The boys really wanted Chinese again and I wanted something a little lighter. It was time for a counter service meal, so I told Mr. Frick to take the boys to the CS area in China and that I would meet them there. I headed for Norway and stopped in their cute little counter service area that I can’t think of the name of and am too lazy to look up. I grabbed a turkey sandwich, fruit (I think?) and some SCHOOL BREAD!
I took my tray over to China to find my guys and they were no where to be found. Are you kidding me? Mr. Frick is directionally challenged. This was made obvious to me when we were heading for a golf resort in South Carolina and he zigged when he should have zagged and he didn’t realize it until an hour and a half later when we were crossing the border into North Carolina. So why did I think now that he could find the counter service in China?
As I strolled around carrying a big ole tray of food and a piece of school bread the size of a wheel of brie, I heard a tapping noise. Yes, it was my son sitting in Nine Dragons. They waved to me to come on in. Right. I don’t really think they are going to be cool with me walking into their restaurant with a tray of food from another country. And… AND… They were about to use up another table service credit! ACK!!!! I motioned Mr. Frick with my head to get on over to the front entrance so we could discuss this. As I had assumed, he couldn’t find the counter service area. He said they had not ordered yet and would come on out. Ta dah! It was right around the corner. Mr. Frick also suffers from a well known man disease of being unable to ask anyone for directions.
We had a nice lunch and I fell in love with school bread! I mean it is out of this world! I highly recommend it.
When we had finished our meals, we decided to stroll around China and do a little looking. The boys had some money and they were itching to spend it. I’m not going to go into great detail, but there was an incident in China that made Mr. Frick mad at me, which in turn made me mad at him. Now we never, ever, ever fight….so that is why this sticks out in my mind. We have a really peaceful marriage and fighting just isn’t in our nature. Now don’t read me wrong, we aren’t perfect and there are some spats here and there, but they are few and far between.
This little ‘spat’ was one of those that made me outrageously mad. I wanted to hide my feelings from the boys, so I clammed up and wouldn’t speak to my dear husband. The boys wanted to ride Maelstrom. How ironic. We waited in the short line instead of grabbing a FastPass, heh heh, and when we boarded our boat I ended up sitting by Mr. Frick with a boy on each end. As we began our journey, I decided it was a fine time to quietly finish our little discussion about the incident in China, and there was a Maelstrom on the Maelstrom. Sometimes Disney just doesn’t bring out the very best in people.
We exited our boat ride that I didn’t enjoy and we stood in Norway with me giving Mr. Frick the cold shoulder. I was done. I gave up all touring plan power because I was one scorned woman. When Mr. Frick asked me what next, I shrugged my shoulders and said you decide….with my eyes.
Mr. Frick took us back to Test Track. It was down. He took us back to China. He wanted to see the acrobats, which started in 45 minutes. So he decided we should sit and wait for them to come out. We did. I made a few phone calls to check on things back home and the boys chased a bird and had a blast doing so. Mr. Frick kept his distance from me. When the show started, we ended with the best seats we had ever had. We are the family that is usually way in the back, behind a tree, holding our kids on our shoulders so they can see. This time, we were front and center. Those acrobats absolutely amaze me.
When the last Chinese split had been done, we gathered together and I pulled Mr. Frick to the side and told him I was tired of being mad at him. I also seriously expressed my feelings of really wanting to pick him up and chunk him into the World Showcase lagoon. This caused us to bust out laughing and as quickly as it had started, it had ended. We were back in the land of marital bliss. We had a looong discussion as we tooled around the rest of the countries. He told me of his great need not to come to Disney again next year. He wanted a break and he wants to go somewhere different and see other parts of our world. I told him that I understood and that if he made us skip next year, he would have to promise to give us a longer time there - like 8 to 10 days the next time we came. He said it was a deal and he was cool with that. I knew it is what had to be done, so instead of seeing replicas of these beautiful countries, maybe we’ll actually get to visit them.
The time had come for our daily rest and swim at our favorite pool ever so we headed back to the Beach Club. The boys and I decided to treat ourselves to some ice-cream, so we took off to Beaches and Cream. Mr. Frick wasn’t feeling like he needed a massive mound of milk and sugar, so he went up to the room to grab our pool gear and swim suits. Before he left, I told him that since it was Saturday, he should go and park it at ESPN for a while when he got back and watch some college football. He agreed that is what he should do. The boys and I bellied up to the Sundae bar and ordered. I don’t remember what we had, but I do know it was fabulous and worth every calorie! Mr. Frick came back with our stuff and took the boys into the men’s locker room to change them into their swimming trunks. I headed for the ladies locker room, which was very nice, and changed. We met back at the pool and I made friends with a lounge chair, the boys ran off to build a sand castle and Mr. Frick headed off towards ESPN. I do believe he was skipping!!!
