It was in today's paper, here is the link
http://www.gazettenet.com/06242003/news/6908.htm
the woman quoted about the cruelty is the one who's husband is the hunter. There are a lot of faulcities in it, ie: the kids saw it.. they could not as it was in our backyard by the woods, they would have had to be in our yard to see it. It did not weight 4-5 pounds more like ten.
We were left a gift this morning from them on our porch.. a cow hoof.. what that is to signify I don't know.
so do we sound horrible?

I don't think the article makes your family sound bad. I read your other post about this. It's a shame that your neighbors are acting like such idiots and that your son had to deal with it. It's your home, your property. You have the right to feel safe on it.

I noticed in the article it said that the Fox's den was in your yard. I wonder how your neighbors would have felt if it was in THEIR yard.

Hang in there.

I have been following your story and to tell you the truth I would have done the same thing. I wonder what your neighbors would be saying if one of their children had been cornered (sp) or worse bitten. I think you did absolutely the right thing.

Just wondering why you didn't share your side of the story with the reporter? But thinking about it I don't know if I would have talked to her either

I hope this all blows over real soon.... I know how about a trip to Disney and when you get back you will have forgotten all about it;)

I'm sorry your story has become part of the daily news Ann. Best of luck to you and your neighbors that the situation with the foxes cxan be resolved fairly and without harm to any of you or the animals.

These are my opinions, nothing personal against you, your neighbors, the police, whomever...

You can't have it both ways (in regards to the neighbor who is a hunter). The police should have notified the neighbors to take their children away from the scene if he knew he was going to use extreme measures to protect you all from the fox. Why didn't Animal Control come and take the fox family to shelter or somewhere outside the neighborhood?

I think they should conduct rabies testing on that animal, and further take the others off your property and put them in an environment away from people and houses. I wouldn't have wanted them on my property for such reasons as you have expressed in your posts. Foxes are wild animals and should not be treated as pets.

NO, you don't sound horrible, THOSE idiots do.

Gee, wonder if the reporter would like to know those idiots left a cow hoof on your porch??? That makes them sound OH so much more sane.

HUGS, Ann, I'm sorry you are going through this and I hope the whole thing dies down quickly. Unfortunately it sounds like you are stuck with the nasty neighbors. :(

The article absolutely does not make you look bad. You had a legitimate problem and the police followed the proper procedures for handling it.

We once had a rabid skunk in the neighborhood and you'd better believe that the cops shot it. YOu can't be too careful.

I'm not a big fan of doing this, but at this point, I'd take the cow hoof to the police and request a restraining order against your neighbor. Maybe it will make them think twice about continuing this nonsense.

I don't think it makes you sound bad at all. It's a sad situation though, and I guess I can understand the neighbors being upset since they didn't witness the threatening behavior. But the way they are handling it is completely inappropriate and classless.

Ann,

you do not come off looking bad at all. I feel for you with such lousy neighbors. Hopefully now that they have had their day in the paper they will be happy and let it go. Ignore the hoof - they are looking for a response and don't deserve one.

And, by the way, how can a hunter be upset about this?!?! Apparently he doesn't have a problem killing animals for his own entertainment, but you can't have one killed when it's a danger to your family?!?!?

Could you write a letter to the editor with your side of the story?

I know that I don't like when squirrels get too close to me, so I can understand your concern with the fox.

I was thinking the same thing... and I'd REALLY push for the rabies test... if one has it it doesnt mean the rest dont....

god I feel so awful for you... wheat terrible neighbors.

These are the same poeple who would be mad nothing was done if the fox attacked one of their kids. If it was getting aggressive now I think it would have only gotten more so. Its just sad all the way around and Im sorry you guys have to go through this.

I agree on the restraining order. This is getting out of hand. *hugs*

From what Ann's told us about these wonderful neighbors of hers, I'd bet they'd be hiring a lawyer and suing her for not doing anything about the foxes!

I'm sorry for your problems, Ann.

Ann,
You did what any NORMAL person would do. Wild animals are nothing to play around with. What happened to the babies?

First -- no, I don't think the article made you look bad. You contacted the police because the fox was threatening your family. Even if the fox really was 4-5 pounds, he was threatening children. I don't give a hoot if the fox is 5 pounds or 50 -- it's threatening your family! And the article presented your side that it got from the police fairly. The fox was threatening, you called the police, and you also contacted the neighbors about it. I say BITE ME to the neighbors now. The only thing they can legitimately be upset about is the gun going off near their kids.

I would be prepared, though, now -- there are probably going to be letters to the editor, some will be nice and some will be nasty, and they will almost all be from people who don't know anything about the situation other than what they read. Don't let them get to you.

Ann, please hold your chin up. You did what you thought was best and I will also agree with your choice. I find that this verse is also appropriate for your circumstance:

Genesis 1:24-26

24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [2] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

You will never be able to please everybody but you can rest knowing that you were exercising your God given right to rule over all of the creatures that move along the ground. This too shall pass.

God bless you,

Adam aka Big Dude

Summoned it up for us all! Please Print this Post and place it in your surronding neighbor's Mail Boxes! Keep the Faith. It will all blow over soon.:o

I also agree that the article doesn't make you look bad. If I had not already known the situation, then I would have felt the same thing.

The article correctly stated that your family was in danger, you were unable to use a part of your home (the door), and the police officer concurred.

I would be upset about the cow hoof, though.

How, in the world, did someone get a cow hoof?!?!?!

The reason we did not respond is my husband did not want to agrue it in the paper.
