Monday, December 13, 2004.. Day 3.. Animal Kingdom
Cast.. DH
Me age 36
DS age 15
DS2 age 11
We were up and off to Animal Kingdom by 7:30. Animal Kingdom opened at 8am.
DS2 got several CMs to pin trade with him. He forgot to take his lanyard when we were at MK, so he was excited to pin trade. I had purchased from Cheap Pins in the Spring, so he had a lot of pins to trade.
We rode the Safari first. There was about a 3 minute wait to get on the ride. We saw a lot of animals. DS really liked seeing both the male and femal lions walking around. My good 35 mm camera just stopped working this day. I had brought around 25 rolls of film for his trip, but no matter what I tried that darn camera wouldn't work. I ended up using my digital camera and my son's disposable cameras. I was kicking myself for not buying another memory card at Sam's Club, but it all worked out in the end. I packed several rechargable batteries for my digital. Glad I did that.
After the safari we used the restrooms and did some shopping. In one gift shop the CM refused to pin trade with DS2 because DS2 offered him an authentic Disney chipmunk pin. The CM tried to tell DS2 that both parties had to agree on the trade, and he didn't think the chipmunk was something he wanted. I didn't even bother and told DS2 to just forget it. It wasn't worth our time to try to set things straight. This guy was only 1 of 2 rude CMs we met. DS2 seemed unphased and continued to trade.
We then went to see Festival of the Lion King. We sat in the warthog section. What an awesome show. We had great seats. I just can't say enough about how wonderful this show is.
After the show we ate at Pizzafari. 3 of us got pizza. DS2 got breadsticks. They were pretty tasty.
Then we decided to see It's Tough To Be a Bug. We were all excited to see this show, but I was a little worried because DS2 does not like bugs at all. I'm a person who can't stand snakes (I can't even look at them on tv), and DS2 feels this way about spiders. The show started out well enough, but near the end (and I won't give spoilers) my son was begging me to leave. We stuck it out, but he was really scared.
We rode the train to Rifiki's Planet Watch. It was 75 degrees and sunny. We heard that it would be colder the following day, so we decided the boys needed time to swim. They had a blast in the pool.
At 3pm we headed over to MK to catch Spectromagic. I got us all some fun Disney Christmas hats. We had a few Mickey ears embroidered for family. We rode Carousel of Progress which got stuck, so we had to watch it twice. It was nice. We also rode Tomorrowland Transportation Authority and then Buzz Lightyear 3 times.
At 5pm we all went to Main Street and got ice cream. They all ordered cones and were mad at me when I ordered a tasty Butter Pecan sundae with hot caramel, whipped cream and a cherry. Yummy. We then went to Main Street to sit on the curb to wait for the 6pm parade. Again, we were so glad we did this. On Sunday we thought we saw the country singer Toby Keith, and the gal sitting next to us for the Specto. parade had a photo of him, so either it was Toby, or a look-alike had both of us fooled.
Spectromagic was great. I'm so glad we went to see it. We decided not to wait for Wishes. We were going to be seeing it the following night during MVMCP, and we thought we'd get back to the resort quicker if we left after the parade. We did get back quicker.
We ate dinner at the POFQ food court. They have tasty food. DH got a burger and fries. It was made fresh to order. DS got a cheesesteak, again made after he ordered. DS2 got breadsticks. I got a meatball sub. It was fresh. It had been toasted in their oven with melted mozzarella. I'd say the food at POFQ food court was much tastier than Cosmic Rays.
All in all it was a nice day. We missed a lot of AK, but thought we'd go back on Thursday to catch the rest.
Next post will be Tuesday, December 14... Downtown Disney and MVMCP
