The Fort gets snubbed!!!

Any of you familiar with the ReserveAmerica site? It is the only site that can be used to reserve campsites at Florida's State parks. I think that is the case in many other states as well.

Anyway, since I have used their services in the past, I periodically receive e-mails from them.

I got one yesterday with the subject line reading "America's top 100 campgrounds."

Naturally, I checked this out, and expected the Fort to get some well deserved recognition.

The Fort didn't even garner a mention.

And, I don't agree with the Florida campgrounds that they did mention. Did they get your state's campgrounds right?

This list seems to be leaving off quite a few very good parks. The one park listed in GA looks nice but no better than 10 others that I know of. Also notice some pretty well reviewed parks in FL and SC that didn't make the list.

Interesting that Tropical Palms made the list (it is the place people go when they can't get into the fort - although a nice park from what I have heard).

My guess is that the list is only for parks that you can reserve through reserve-america.

ReserveAmerica is the LA State Parks sole reservation service also, as of year before last. I think this is there way of helping out the CGs that dont get much traffic but use their sevice......very biased. Their reservation system is pretty nice though...just dont take their oppinion to mean anything other than "This campground needs our help to increase their flow of business"

BDR- I think you are 100% correct about that. Clearly, this is just a promotional tool to help with their business- there is no benefit to them for mentioning places that they don't serve, or places that already have healthy reservations.

Yup, I agree too, NY is all Reserveamerica too. I have them bookmarked. Last year one of their top 100 was a state park here that is not very good at all. I've never been to any of the ones listed in NY.

I'm from Minnesota, where there are many beautiful State Park campgrounds! I think you're right -- they're just pushing the campgrounds that they can reserve.

Around here we have this monthly magazine which sponsors an annual "Best of the Best" competition. Of course, to be on the ballot, you must advertise in their little publication. It nauseates me to see people use their "status" as best in the valley in their advertising, when they were in reality the only ones in their profession stupid enough to buy ad space in this worthless periodical.

Don't think I'd be too worried about it. Not a single campground in Texas made it on that list.

I've never heard of the two for WA, but I thought it was amusing that one of them has this on the info list:

No potable water, bring your own drinking water.
This campground has no water.

Shame shame. The KOA in St Augustine FL has campsites that are behind a strip mall. Literally, your camper backs up to a concrete wall! WTH!!!!!

The one on US 192 E in Kissimmee isn't a whole lot better. It's next door to a Sam's and there's no security.
