The Food Truck Park at DTD is now open

I agree. I cannot grasp the idea of someone wanting to eat from a glorified roach coach... especially one that does not actually go anywhere...

Actually I'm surprised that they have had a few non Disney trucks in there since it opened.

Really don't understand why anyone would want to order food from a 'truck' when there are so many other places available. Seems a strange addition to the downtown disney area! To each their own, but not for us. :confused3

Actually, food trucks have become sort of a "craze". I believe more in big cities then just everywhere. But seriously, they are on tv, in movies, and have become pretty popular. I think it's a cool idea for a quick bite. Mmm, makes me want a chimichanga for some reason. #healthyeatingproblems

Oh, there are plenty in our area also - have Food Truck Rodeos once or twice a year, and the people 'do' turn out - but still don't understand why, and we don't patronize them.

These seem to offer more like snack or small meal type items not meals like the rest of DTD so it is something's different. They also are each themed to a park or parks so you don't have to enter a park to get that type of food. I've never eaten from one so I can't say too much about it.

There are several where we live... a small college town in the Appalachian mountains. Still doesn't change the fact that we don't find them interesting.

Every day our company's office park/complex has at least two food trucks. Some are great, some are eh, some are not good at all. As for why they are a hit is because they can rotate frequently, change things up, often quicker than restaurants.

I love food trucks in the general sense, but I'm not sure how food trucks at DTD is that impressive when most are run by Disney (or one of its partners) and offer the same average food fair that has become a Disney staple. The joy of food trucks is getting something that is different and exciting.

When food trucks are allowed to be unique and fight for customers they can be wonderful dispensers of cuisine. When food trucks are regulated, or "license" the same spot and try to serve maximum customers with bland food, they stink.

Two of my experiences to illustrate:
A food truck park in Boulder CO serving home made Mexican foods was memorable. I would gladly search the area for that truck if I get to return to Boulder.
A food truck that "owned" service at a company location day after day was very poor. The food came from a supplier, certified by government to fulfill food truck orders, that made all foods bland and largest market possible.

I’m a huge fan of food trucks. The typical investment for a chief to get a food truck up and off the ground is 35 to 50K. Compared to a brick and mortar restaurant that typically cost in the neighborhood of a million dollars. The result is food trucks are a haven for up and coming chefs to show their chops build a loyal customer base and attract angles to invest in them so that they can open up a restaurant. No doubt some are great and some suck but typically we are very pleased with the food. I live in an urban neighborhood that gets anywhere from 6 to 10 trucks out every Friday night. We love having all of the variety.

Of course, Disney run food trucks are just another vehicle for packaging quick service food. However, they fit perfectly into the Disney Springs story line. It would be awesome if they actually let local food trucks serve. That would be a great option for grabbing a unique quick bit when hanging out in the Springs.

Plus, the Food Truck park is just like going to a food court in the mall where the whole family can find something they like in a compact area and then find a table together to eat.

One thing that does suck about the area however it appears the Disney Lawyers axed the access to the Hi-Li seating area. So now the elevated train tracks is just for show instead of providing another option for hanging out and seeing the Springs from a different vantage point.

Yeah, we saw and read that recently as well. Went over for lunch the other day after reading that and saw the tower portions now are just for looks. Waste of time and money if you ask me to add them and then just use them for looks.

Not sure how I feel on these food trucks and the area they are in just yet. I'll let them get a few more areas closer to finished and opened before I am quick to judge the entire concept.

Yes they were axed because of problems with accessibility and Disney lawyers were afraid of people throwing things from the top of them causing more problems.

In my experience, food trucks have come a long way in recent years. I (unhappily) ate at a few in the Boston/Cambridge area about 10-15 years ago, and the food was bad. The ingredients did not seem fresh, the seasoning was off, etc.

However, I have eaten at several more recently (mostly around the Austin and south Texas areas), and they have all been wonderful. Clean, fresh ingredients, amazing taste, and a wide range of cuisines (from simple taco trucks to Pakistani, to 'gourmet' grilled cheese, to doughnuts,...). I have had meals at some amazing (and expensive) restaurants around the world, and I can honestly say that a few of the food truck meals (including from taco trucks in south Texas) are among my top 5 meals ever. You're doing yourself a disservice if you write-off food trucks.

As others have mentioned, Disney should have made this a real food truck experience instead of just another outlet for Disney fast food. Allowing true local food trucks in would provide a unique experience for guests and allow members of the local food community to show their stuff to a large audience! As it is they provide nothing unique or different and really don't show off anyone's culinary expertise.

I certainly agree. But you know if local food trucks were to be brought in, you'd have resort guests complaining because they couldn't use their dining plan.

ok, likes/dislikes aside.... anyone have the menus with prices? (my husband is looking for the red wagon corn dog from disneyland, which was rumored to be included.. I am looking for something else I might like besides the corn dog! :rotfl:
