Has anybody ever been to one of these restaurants. My kids were watching a special on tv on fondue and I think they would love it. If you did go, do you have an idea on the cost for dinners? Was sharing permitted .

We have a restaurant like this in Baton Rouge called "The Melting Pot". I haven't eaten there yet, but my cousin and his GF did. They said the meal cost about $110 for the two of them (that was including a bottle of wine, appetizer, dessert, main course).

I think you might mean The Melting Pot. It is one of our favorite places to eat! YUM! you can check out the menu and get locations at www.meltingpot.com

The way it works is that you order a meal that everyone shares. There is a cheese fondue that is served with bread and a meat fondue that is served with either oil or bouillon to cook it in. There are a variety of sauces served to eat with the meat. To end it, there is a wonderful chocolate fondue!

If you get the special, which includes all three fondues and a salad, the price is around $65-70. That is supposed to be for two. Now, when we've gone there with my neice, we've never had to pay extra for her, she just shared the plate of meat with the rest of us. I'm not sure if that is standard practice or not.

You can also choose what you want a la cart and make it cheaper if you don't want all the fondues. If you find the closest location to you on the website, they will probably have a menu posted with the price.

Once you try The Melting Pot, you will probably be hooked. If that is the case, you could consider getting your own pot and doing it at home! We do it at least once every two months. It is sooo yummy!

Hope that helps!

Kathy

Yep Melting Pot is what I mean.
We want to go with a big group, some of them will be young kids. I wouldn't want to pay $30. for the kids. When we do this the restaurants make out well as each group generally orders some extras.

We have fondue at home. The meat fondue is very simple, and there is packaged swiss cheese fondue at the grocery store. We've been eating it since the 70's. :D

fondue is a favourite in our house. We have it every Christmas eve, served picnic style under the tree. The one I make is a little different from the normal type. It's beer, cheddar cheese, flour and a little dry mustard for flavour. We serve it with chunks of bread, sliced apples and occasionally brocolli. We usually have chocolate fondue for dessert afterwards.

Oh The Melting Pot is such a nice change of pace kind of restaurant. The one in our area is usually booked up on the weekends for reservations. We went for our anniversary last summer and our waitress asked us when we sat down if we were there for something special, and we said it was our anniversary and she brought us a bottle of champagne. It was only a two glass small bottle, but I thought that was so nice. We have gotten the meals for two. You each get to choose your own salad, then choose the cheese dish for the next course, then you choose your meat course, and what seasoning/oil/sauces you want, and then comes the best part...dessert. We have said that we could just go there for the desserts they are that yummy. Try the s'mores dessert it is my favorite!! The price wasn't bad for the kind of restaurant (about $100 for the both of us probably) and I am not sure about sharing with more than 2 people for the meals for two.

I saw fondue pots on clearance for $15 or so at Target.

I thought about buying it.. I have a few fondue recipes, but didn't do it... (sometimes I hate the practical side of me)

Fondue is very very easy to make, and very very quick.

Its fun! We keep on thinking we should "borrow" my FIL's from his house since he doesn't use it.
