The Fairy Tale is no longer a silent discount

I saw it advertised on TV last night!!! I'm so glad we got our dates before they started the ad campaign. LOL.

I haven't seen one ad on TV or heard anything on the radio by us. All I saw was a small ad in the travel section. I wouldn't have even noticed it if I wasn't looking for it.

I haven't seen anything on TV either. I would have also misssed the add in Sunday's paper if I weren't looking for it. I did notice that one of the larger travel agencies also advertised it in Sunday's paper.

I haven't seen anything either. Had it not been for these boards, as well as Mary's website, I wouldn't know about it either.

I'm surprised Disney's not pushing it more

My boyfriend also saw a small ad in Sunday's paper for the FTP, and if I remember correctly it was on CBS that we saw it during Hollywood Squares (7:30-8 p.m. in Boston) and we were SHOCKED!!! It was really weird.

There was a quarter page in Sunday's New York Times, and then I think two other travel companies were adversiting it in their house ads.

Its definitely out there.

I'm sorry, but what a bunch of HOGWASH! Since 1989, I've been to WDW about 10 times and have never paid full price for room, ticket media and most meals. Whose advertising department did Disney pay for that "article?"

Author "Reid Bramblett" is with "Frommer's Budget Travel" and knows nothing of previous Disney discounts? Even Birnbaum discusses AP discounts and others.

I live in South Florida so we generally get the Florida Resident discount advertisement in our Sunday Travel Section. This week though there was an entire pull out section that was a Disney advertisement. They are promoting full force.

Maybe that is part of the ploy; to let you think that FINALLY discounts are available at WDW.

I don't think they would want to advertise that Disney has in fact given discounts out regularly. It would give people the idea that this is no big deal, rather than "this is a great deal."

Dh and I saw the commercial the other night. I think while we were watching ET on ABC on Sunday night, which makes sense. The ad in our Sunday paper was AAA and made it look like you had to book through AAA.

Hi to all,
I interpreted the article saying that this was the first Disney discount that he knew of that was offered to the general public, no matter who or where from. AAA, Disney Club, Floridians, etc. discounts are and have been there, but I would guess most of the world-wide public does not know of them, so I feel in that respect this is a first. And I hope it does put a whole bunch of people in the parks when we will be there this July- the more, the merrier!! Have a good day, everyone. Bob

Yep! If there are more people there then maybe the park hours will be extended!

I've seen the TV ad 3x in the last 2 hours. There was an ad in our Sunday (5/11) paper - travel section.

I saw a giant ad in USA Today a few days ago.

Is this deal that great? We never buy Unlimited Park Hoppers as we tend to spend a lot of "down time" at resorts, swimming, etc. Are these rates better than room-only discounts?

I haven't seen a TV commercial yet. There was an ad in the Travel section of the Indianapolis Star this Sunday. I was surprised because it was smaller than I thought it was going to be....and in black & white. I thought it would be a full-page color ad.

A co-worker did e-mail me the msnbc.com article about the FTP today since she knows we are going to WDW this October. I told her I booked the package almost a week ago since I had "the inside scoop". ;) Gotta love the DIS!

I have not seen any TV ads yet either. No local newspaper ads that I know of. Maybe in the Boston Globe?

You are correct. The key sentence in this article is:"And even when it does discount, it certainly doesn’t advertise the fact. "

In the past what discounts were available were marketed to a select group. In fact the very ones you mentioned are select, and some require memberships and/or fees or the purchase of a special ticket such as Annual Pass. Even with the recent codes unless you frequented Internet Disney forums and learned about the codes there, most in the general public sector did not know they exisited. Actually some of these select discounts would have only been known by that particular market had they not been shared to Internet forums, such as the Hispanic People magazine code. Even the postcard discounts were modified to required a PIN number to keep people from sharing them on forums.

While many here can't imagine this, but there are many people who are not aware these types of forums exist. And even if they are aware, won't spend the time on them to find discounts.
