The faceless children take a top-secret trip to WDW...

We are staying in OKW so we have washers and dryers in our room, I think it would be crazy NOT to do luandry when they are right there!!LOL

Can you do earplugs to help with the fireworks. Hmm...does he have any special stuff animals or blankets he can have with him while sleeping away from home? A comfort object of some sort to help ease the fears? A nightlight--make sure you pack it.

Hey guys,

Really, I am so very sorry that I'm slacking on this PTR so very much. We just haven't been doing much in the way of disney planning lately. When we do, I promise I'll update!

I'm hoping you can give me some advice though, because I don't really have any other Mamas to ask. We are leaving on a trip for 4.5 days on Friday to visit some relatives (I'll update about that when we get back...we'll see how Sydney does on the plane and how Jay does away from home!) and J.J. is stressed out about it, he keeps telling me how nervous he is to be sleeping away from home. He is the most sensitive little boy, and he always asks to go home, even if we're just out running errands.

The problem is this: he's been wetting the bed this past week. I think he did it twice, and tonight he pooped in his pants while he was sleeping. :scared1: The poor kid always wakes up crying too. I don't know what to do, he's been potty trained for pretty much a year with no accidents at this point, but I think it's definitely a stress thing because even when he was in diapers he would never poop in his diapers unless he was stressed about something. I just don't know what to do about the trip. I think he would be so upset about me putting him in a diaper at night, since it's been forever since he's worn one and Sydney wears them "because she's a baby" but I just can't have him peeing in someone else's bed! He's a squirmer as well so I don't even think putting a waterproof pad under him will help.

Any ideas for me? I don't want to make a big deal about it, because I'm so sure he's just stressed out. He's got a sensitive tummy about these things. But as much as I don't want to hurt his feelings, I REALLY don't want him wetting the bed at someone else's house, and I feel like just hoping for the best is taking an awfully big chance... :confused3

I really appreciate any help you can give me on this one!

I just bought Sam (age 5) some Goodnights "Underwear" because he started occassionally wetting the bed at night. Maybe try these? They look a lot like pull-ups, and when I first brought them home he said they were pull-ups and he wasn't a baby anymore. I explained to him that they were special undies for big boys to wear to bed at night just in case the pee pee wanted to come out, and he went for that. He's had a lot less accidents now that he's wearing them (and when it's dry he's all excited to save it for the next night). Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Thanks so much for this! :goodvibes I will have to head to the store tonight and see what I can find. Maybe since he was in cloth diapers he won't even know what they are. I even thought about putting a diaper on him after he is already asleep. :rolleyes1 I've never dealt with this before and it's much harder now that I have his little boy self esteem to deal with!

I was going to suggest the same thing. The new generation pull-ups are really more "underwear-like" than likes diapers.

I am back, things went really well. Things are crazy here (my mom is going out of town tomorrow and we're watching my grandmother while she's gone...but my grandma is in the ER right now, might have broken her foot or something.) but I will be back to update when I get a chance. I have lots of faceless pictures for you! :goodvibes

Oh no! I hope your grandma is alright! A broken foot could really have her out of commision for a while. :(

I hope your grandma is okay! :(

Can't wait to see the pics. :)

First of all, thanks so much to everyone for the well wishes for my grandma! They aren't really sure what was wrong, but she got released from the hospital on Friday and she's been getting better ever since. She's starting to put weight on her foot and everything, so that's helpful, because hefting her around is difficult. My mom comes home from her vacation tonight, so we made it without her, which feels like an accomplishment! Taking care of my grandma is no small task!

Vacation Practice Take Two- Maryland.

So, we decided to take an impromptu vacation. We were supposed to go to sesame place with DH's cousin and her family in September, two weeks before our trip to disney. But financially it was uncertain if they would be able to go, so since DH had vacation this week anyway, we decided to take a trip. So, here is what we learned.

Airplane

This was fine. We packed some stuff for J.J.:

But he didn't use any of it. Well, he used the earmuffs. He was completely terrified to go on the plane. All day long he told me “planes are not safe for people” and he screamed as we dragged him to the car and buckled him in. But as soon as we pulled up to the airport, he was cool with it. Strange, but whatever works.

Sydney did great on the plane...it was only a 45 minute flight so all we brought her was cheerios. She was a little antsy, but not too much. I'm sure we'll be able to bring something to distract her on our flight in the fall, she's just little and doesn't play with much right now. I'm hoping she starts watching TV.

Naptime

I really, really, REALLY don't want to, but I think we're going to have to go back to the room for naps. I just don't think Jay will take long enough naps in the stroller. Sydney would be fine, since she naps in the sling everywhere...and I think that J.J. would nap, but not long enough to be rested, and that would add up over an 11 day vacation. At the very least, he needs to nap at least every other day. Two consecutive days without naps is a recipe for disaster.

This will probably be a good thing though, because it brings us to...

Swimming

This trip was the first time my kids have been swimming. They both loved it. Couldn't get enough of it. In fact, Syd begs to go out in the kiddy pool every chance she gets. She must go out there 10 times a day. DH thinks we messed up and should have made Ariel her princess. Red hair and she loves the water? We were going to make Ariel her princess until after she was born, so apparently we made a mistake. Oh well. So, we'll have to put this on our must-do list. Before, I thought swimming was optional. Now I know I'm not going to make it past that pool every day with them without promising swimming later.

Food

We packed a bunch of food this trip in our luggage, to see if it would survive the journey. Thinking about breakfast this trip, and food for future trips. We packed: pumpkin bread, oatmeal bars (think granola bars but I didn't have granola), carrot muffins, and M&M cookies. They all survived the trip just fine, which made me very happy!

All in all, it went great and we had an awesome time. The first night sleeping away from home was a little rough for Jay, but he survived it just fine and at the end of the vacation he said he wanted to stay at his “new home” haha. (Oh, another totally off the wall thing that he said: we were at Chick-fil-a and there was a playplace there and DH was trying to get him to go down the slide...J.J. Told him he couldn't because “there are too many squares and I'm a different shape.” That kid cracks me up. Where does he get this stuff?

And, here are some pictures of the fun! DH's cousin has two boys, ages 4 and 2, so our kids were 4,3,2,1 which was super cute. We went to the national zoo while we were there...DH was stoked about seeing pandas.

Cute pics!
It's nice to have a trial run before the big trip! Zachary will take decent naps in the stroller but we still enjoy taking an afternoon break at Disney.

Love the animal mask pic! It's so cute. We were thinking of flying to Baltimore in a few weeks (great deal on airfare), but then we would have to rent a car. So not worth it! So, we'll be taking the 8 hour trip in my DH's car. It should be interesting, yet fun at the same time!

Cute pics! Sounds like a nice trial run. It's funny, we did a trial run to Sesame Place last year before Disney as well and that was where we learned of her utter fear of characters.

We definitely did naps back in the hotel room in august. Then I would read in the room or one of us would hang in the pool. It was worth it just to not have a cranky whiny toddler at dinner.

Glad to hear your trial run went well. I am not sure how you packed your snacks, but if you are still worried about them making the trip, we packed cereal and other snacks into disposable kids cups (those cups you get in restaurants with a kids meal) or plastic containers (the plastic takeout containers from restaurants) so then we could use them in Disney and toss them if we didn't have room later. Also helped keep snacks fresh.

Wow, I didn't realize you flew to MD. Great job! I'm glad the kids did well on the plane. I can't imagine how nervous you were with JJ before you got to the airport and he calmed down.

Fun swimming!!! You'll have to check out the Amherst pools this summer (today would be a great day!). The pool at Clearfield is amazing and has a little 'waterpark' area attached.

That's so cool that you were able to take notes from this trip to apply it to Disney. It always helps to know what to expect.

That is a great pool...although I've never been to it! I danced at American Academy of Ballet right around the corner.

It's really a big relief to know that J.J. has slept away from the house now, and that Sydney has flown on a plane...I don't do well with the unexpected! I do think it will be nice to get out of the hot sun, I just like to go a little disney commando sometimes!

Yeah, it's a long drive, and our car is on it's last leg so we are trying to make it last as long as possible, so driving our car was really out of the question. We made the drive when J.J. was 6 months old though, and it's really not too bad. Only if your kid screams the entire way like he did, or like Sydney would now!

We just packed our food in a cooler, but disposable containers are really smart. I will have to start hoarding everything that comes into the house with a container like that!

Yeah, we were concerned. I told DH to check that we had his ID because I was worried people were going to think we were kidnapping him. But it was really too late at that point to do anything other than put him on the plane! It could have been a disaster, he's known for having melt downs and then just getting so out of control crying that he really can't calm himself down. :scared1:

I have heard good things about that pool! My problem is that I can't really take both kids alone since neither one can swim without an adult totally helping them, and my friends all work during the day so I can't enlist help. My neighbors have a pool though, and we're pretty close (I babysat for their kids for 10 years!), so I keep hinting that I want to mooch in on their pool. I'm sure they'd love to play with the baby in her little floaty thing while I help Jay swim!

It does...it would really help if I ACTUALLY could know what to expect! :rotfl2:
