The Everything POTC Club!!

Ah, I be guessin' djkeenan shall not be dreamin' o me belov'd Barbossa... Just as well, as it leaves him all te me! ;)

Well, mateys, I just found out about a tall ships festival what shall take place in San Diego (just a two hour drive from me home) a couple o' week'nds from now. It shall include the "Lady Washington" what portrayed the HMS Interceptor in POTC. Ah, te go aboard the Interceptor... not as good as the Black Pearl, but it'll do in a pinch, says I. Anoth'r ship thar shall be offerin' two special experiences fer an extra price - one is a ship-te-ship battle recreation and the other be a chance fer ye te work a bit o' the riggin' on the ship. Must decide if I can spare the money fer both! Think I got me dad and a friend o' ours all set te go! Cannot wait! Oh aye, and the maritime museum what be hostin' the event has also got the HMS Surprise from "Master and Commander" on display and ye can go aboard and look 'round. So excited... :hyper:

Shall let ye all know 'bout it when I go - not 'til the middle o' January, it be. I shall wear me pirate shirt and conspire te get the ships crews te go on the account with me... pirate:

Magix - What a grand adventure ye'll be havin'. Can't wait to hear all about it. I be just a wee bit green with envy.

Well... it be official now, friends... I be totally geeked-out. Just made me reservations fer the Battle Reenactment Sail at this weekend's Tall Ships tour in Long Beach (aye, and I'll still be goin' te the same tour in San Diego later). Shall arrive plenty early te get me pick o' ships - I'll have me the Lady Washington (aka Interceptor) o' course! Three hours o' battle with the oth'r ships - huzzah! I can hardly wait!!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: Oh, friends, what have I become? Obsessed I be... pirate: :hyper: pirate:

Ahoy me hearties! just be back from another long journey 'cross the spanish main, pilagin and plunderin and what not....also received 2 copies of potc dvd.....and watched all the extra features....did it on me computer tho....i loved the diary part and learnin how they made this film, looks like a lot of hard work went inter it.

i especially enjoyed the whole humiliated grapes part...hehe
...

depply, check disc 2 when ye have it on yer comput'r - thar be a spot te click fer the "Moonlight Becomes Ye" studio. Ye can turn a pict'r o' yerself or anyone ye please into a curs'd pirate what's all half-skeletal. Entertain'n, indeed. :teeth:

Fair warnin' te ye, mateys... I be gatherin' the information I need te get yer next pirate fact (ship's articles, ye recall) done fer ye. Think I finally have a bit o' time te devote te it. Keep a weather eye fer it in the next couple o' days. pirate:

Ahoy, mateys! I’ve made ye wait long enough, I think, fer yer latest pirate fact. So, here it be:

It may surprise ye te learn that pirate ships were one o’ the first places democracy took hold. Most decisions aboard ship (fer example: what mission te go on, who shall be captain or quartermaster and such, whether te let a captured ship go or burn it te the sea) were made by vote o’ the whole crew. Aye, many pirates went on the account after sailin’ a while in the employ o’ old King George’s navy and were plenty tired o’ bein’ ordered ‘round and ne’er given a voice in what they had te do, so on a pirate ship the lot o’ ‘em made sure te be heard. Now, one o’ the most import’nt ways each crew made sure te keep things right were by settin’ down a list o’ rules and procedures b’fore settin’ out on their first mission togeth’r – that list were called the ship’s articles. All men what were te sail ‘board a ship were made te sign the ship’s articles te show they’d abide by it’s rules and stand fast by the comp’ny. Often, captured men from ships the pirates made prize of were forc’d te serve among the pirate crew and were forc’d te sign the articles, tho many forc’d men stood fast ag’inst signin’, even te their own harm, so they’d not be consid’r’d pirates should they be captur’d by the navy or such (fer if yer name were on them articles and ye had none te vouch fer ye bein’ forc’d, ye’d be hang’d a pirate like the rest).

What were in them articles, ye ask? Here be an example fer ye (these be the articles o’ the ship “Revenge”, John Phillips, Capt.):

I. Every Man shall obey civil Command; the Captain shall have one full Share and a half in all Prizes; the Master, Carpenter, Boatswain and Gunner shall have one Share and quarter.
II. If any Man shall offer to run away, or keep any Secret from the Company, he shall be maroon’d with one Bottle of Powder, one Bottle of Water, one small Arm and Shot.
III. If any Man shall steal any Thing in the Company, or game to the Value of a Piece of Eight, he shall be maroon’d or shot.
IV. If at any Time we should meet another Marooner [here they be meanin’ a fellow pirate] that Man that shall sign his Articles without the Consent of our Company, shall suffer such Punishment as the Captain and Company shall think fit.
V. That Man that shall strike another whilst these Articles are in force, shall receive Moses’s Law [and here they be meanin’ 40 stripes, lackin’ one, with the cat o’ nine tails] on the bare Back.
VI. That Man that shall snap his Arms, or smoak Tobacco in the Hold, without a Cap to his Pipe, or carry a Candle lighted without a Lanthorn, shall suffer the same Punishment as in the former Article.
VII. That Man that shall not keep his Arms clean, fit for an Engagement, or neglect his Business, shall be cut off from his Share, and suffer such other Punishment as the Captain and the Company shall think fit.
VIII. If any Man shall lose a Joint in Time of an Engagement, he shall have 400 Pieces of Eight, if a Limb, 800.
IX. If at any Time we meet with a prudent Woman, that Man that offers to meddle with her, without her Consent, shall suffer present Death.

Aye, and so thar it be. Most ship’s articles follow’d these general lines. Most all set down paym’nt fer serious injury incurred in battle. Many also included rules te forbid havin’ women aboard, as they’d cause division and fightin’ among the crew. Each ship’s articles set down the rules what were important te that individual crew and so varied from ship te ship.

As ye know, in POTC, thar be great mention made o’ the “Code set down by the order of the Brethren”. Now, friends, thar were no such Code what ruled all pirates, nor were thar an organized “Brethren” te make such rules. The Brethren were but what pirates oft’n called each other, “Brethren of the Coast”. And the only rules what govern’d ‘em were those on their own ship. So, Barbossa didn’t have te do anythin’ fer that Ms. Swann what he didn’t feel like doin’ – guidelines or not… :p pirate:

Arrrgh you savvy sea dog pirate: Another interestin' bit o' pirate lore.

Have ye all found the hidden treasures on the POTC DVD? They be the Keith Richards interview, the Japanese trailer, a time-lapsed clip of the building of the treasure cave, and the computer generated images of the chase & fight between the Pearl and the Interceptor.

Hi everyone! Just thought I would drop in and say hi.

I must admit that I was one of those who waited for POTC to come out on DVD. But I've watched it several times since I got it. :teeth: Like FPgurl04 I watched it a few times these past 2 weeks while sick.

I can't believe how good the movie actually was. At first the ads made me think it would be too scary, but it wasn't. I've got a new favorite!!!
