The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

I so agree with you. These are the best shoes.

I now own 8 pairs of Shape Ups. 3 sneakers, 3 dress/casuals, and 2 pairs of sandals.

What's even better is the the dress/casuals and sandals are slip-ons.

I haven't read through the whole thread, just skimmed here and there.. I'm sorry if this has already been asked.

Can anyone give some tips on being large (5'2" and 280lbs) and taking kids on rides? My kids are 7, 5, 2, and 9 months. I'm wondering how we'll split up on rides, if I'll be able to fit on rides with just one other kid, or two kids, or what. I know my 7 year old is technically old enough to ride by himself, but I don't think he'll want to. I'm just worried we'll wait in line for something and then not be able to figure out how to make sure all the kids are riding with either me or my husband (who is not a big guy).

Thanks!

The rides are a lot bigger than you think My Dh runs about 280 and I run about 180 And our Ds 7 fit on a lot of the rides together. Did you have a certain ride you were worried about . We also mixed it up with our DS and Dd 12 . Indie Speed way might be a little tight but can't think of any thing else that would give you trouble!

I am nervous about the teacups. The space looks small to fit in. My girls can't wait to ride them with me. I have wide hips and very large bottom. Any tricks getting in the teacups?

on our first trip I was over 300 # and I was scared of the tea cups for that reason . I fit getting in and out was tight but I found standing on my tippy toes did the trick . Also you are never going to see these people again so if it takes you a little longer so what. Its all about having a good time with the kids. Also just remembered the turnstyle going in to haunted mansion was tight but doable .

I hope I fit. It is hard to tell by the pics. I guess I can tell better when I actually get there.

I did fit I never found anything I did not fit on! Walking was the big issue for me my legs and feet hurt . You will have a amazing time ! Your at Disney !!!!

Both hubby and I fit together in the tea cups - and we're both definitely pooh sized! There wasn't room for anyone else in there :lmao: - but we were able to spin the cups without any problem and I had a great time on it.

It is a narrow opening into them - so just take your time (most people are helping their kids get loaded in don't forget) and don't worry. ;)

I also third Sketchers Shape Ups! I easily walked the park from nearly open to close (and I rarely am active right now - with a sit down job / night shift computer work - leaving little time for much activity) and the next day got up and did it again. Trying anything near that before these shoes (including expensive orthopedic ones) meant feet so sore I couldn't stand typically.

Worth EVERY penny.

As someone who has "broke" Space Mountain, Pirates, AND It's a Small World, trust me... you can't do it alone. When I used to go to Disneyland, I tended to go with a group of bears (Big Hairy Men). It took 10 of us to break Space Mountain, while Pirates and Small World took 12 of us. (It was a banner day that day!) One or two big people will not break a ride.

I just poped in to aggree with you! I am best freinds with a pooh sized person and her mom. We crammed all three of us into a boat on small world (around 700 pounds of peoples) and we didnt didnt bottom out or break the ride.

They put me and two of my CP roommates in the same row on a boat that was otherwise filled at Small World... We're all big girls. It didn't sink or break or anything, but it quite obviously dipped a bit when we got off the loading track :lmao: We started singing "It's a small boat" instead.

I'm mainly worried about Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain. We'd have to split up (my younger two aren't tall enough to ride), and I would hate to get ready to board and find out that we couldn't sit three in a row (me and my super skinny 5 and 7 year olds), and have my 7 year old too nervous to ride by himself. I know they'd have to sit by themselves on Space Mountain, so we'd prepare them for that and just not ride if they didn't want to.

You and your 7 and 5 yr olds should fit in one . Like I said we have put my self Dh and Ds5 at the time on Big Thunder and Splash Mt . Remember you can always baby swap if you need to to break up your party this way , Disney is very good about working this all out. I was more stressed out over Space Mt. with the fact that i had no hold on him then anything else. You may be surprised our older two on the first trip would ditch us on rides to set together and us behind them . You can all be in the same car they will ask how many and put you together.Disney trains there people very well for this.

I'm wondering if any pooh sized folks have had any luck with Sum of All Thrills at Innoventions. DS loves this and hubby did it with him last time but this time it will be just me and the kids. I need to prepare him if I won't be able to ride with him. :(

Hubby could not fit on this - 6'2" and 350. He sat down - they tried to close it and would not let him even try to adjust himself better (he was wearing a kilt and so sat down kind of awkwardly). There are test seats however nearby, so check them if you're worried! They are way off to one side (no where near the entrance line - so no one will see you ;) ).

He said these were a tighter fit than Mission:Space if that helps.

Just wanted to give a quickly mid-trip update. I'm a size 30/32, 4x with most of my weight in my thighs, booty and lower stomach. I've been able to ride everything I've wanted so far and that has included:

Space Mountain
Buzz Lightyear
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Splash Mountain
Cinderella's Carousel (yes, I launched my big ole booty onto that poor horse)
Dumbo
Soarin'
Test Track
Mission: Space

There have been many other rides, but I've listed the ones I was worried about before arriving at WDW. We haven't made it to HS or AK, but I'll give another update when I can.

You have no idea how much better I feel after reading this post. I'm about a 28/30 at 5'7" and carry most of my weight in my hips, butt and stomach. I'm feeling optimistic. :)

I couldn't get on this ride b/c of my chest. If you are busty, forget about it. It kept popping open on me. I thought it was rather funny, but only b/c there weren't tons of people around me to humiliate me. I barely got my bum into it, but I managed, and then the top kept popping b/c of the girls.

I am wondering about Primeval Whirl. The video I watched on AllEars.net had a little note under it about the seats being tight. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this ride????

I saw the test seats last year- not near the entrance of the ride but right where everyone walking by can gawk. I'll suck it up and try it for ds though.

Well that stinks- even if I do manage to shed some pounds between now and our trip the chest is generally the last place I lose weight.

Being Pooh sized myself, I would ask are your Crocs new when you wear them to WDW? Or when you need to use them for alot of walking?
To really reap the benefits of Crocs they should NOT be broken in.
Yes you should wear them only a few times at the house to make sure they don't hurt your feet, but they should be new and not broken down.
As Crocs age they flatten out a bit and lose their support. The heavier you are the quicker this happens. (I get new Crocs every 6 mos and plan new ones a week before a WDW trip.

Also a running shoe is best as well. They are made for "high" or hard impact on your feet as you run. If you are heavier this helps in taking the brunt of the impact of just walking. (again, I have bad feet and this helps tremendously).

So what I do is start out in my running shoes with moisture resistant socks, by mid day or evening I switch to my Crocs and finish the day......works like a charm!!

Have a wonderful trip!!!
Totally agree with you about Crocs. I broke mine in a little too much before my last trip. I was miserable. I have been nearly disabled by my feet injuries, and will be taking no risks this time in regards to my feet!

Hey guys! First of all I'm totally relieved to see that my flight down on Allegiant should go just fine.

But now, I'm concerned about my feet. I've been having horrible problems for almost a year with bone spurs/flat feet/plantar fascia. DH and I are just going down for a short trip. We're doing DTD one day, then MVMCP the next. Any ideas for dealing with my stupid feet? I've done all the usual stuff, PT, custom orthotics, new shoes, night splints, all kinds of medications. So I'm asking for any help or ideas.

Thanks a zillion in advance.

Karen
I feel for you. I have been through therapy, pain killers, shots, night splints, etc... My feet were a disaster at Disney in October, and I had been without pain for two years. My doc forced me to wear Crocs. I resisted. Well, I flat out refused, but in the end relented and have never gone back. I love them. I did make the mistake of wearing them out a little too much before my trip as I said above. I was an absolute mess. I sat down and cried my second day in. It's important to always have a change of shoes with you in the park. I will be bringing my therapy bands and making sure I ice. I have also invested in Shape-ups, but I have to confess that they are harder than I thought to get used to. The first day I was amazed. Then I woke up the next day and was in pain. I have been wearing them a little each day in hopes of being disney ready in a couple weeks. The jury is still out for me. Every night I went to the hot tub and spent a lot of time massaging my muscles in my feet. This trip I will be visiting the dr. to get a cortisone shot in my right foot, and asking for pain killers just in case. I will take several pairs of crocs, my shape-ups (if they end up working for me), and my $150 tennies that I can wear for short periods of time. That way I have lots of options. Good luck.

It's pretty much been constance since Dec./Jan.:headache:

I have no idea how to tape it. I have tried ice and I have crocs, but not that kind. Will have to check into them.

Any other ideas?

Thanks, Karen
You can learn from a physical therapist how to tape your feet. Your doctor can suggest you go to a therapist.

Awwww - it is just rotten pain!!!!

To tape your foot, get wide medical tape. Then starting at the base of your big toe, put a long piece from there to your heel. Then, from the base of your pinky toe to your heel (both pieces make a V) and if you are super sore or at first, do a 3rd strip down the center of your foot. Now - take 1 more piece start at the top of your foot go around, under and up over your arch back to where you started. I know, its alot of tape, but it helped me so much I think it gave my foot the rest it needed to heal. I also wear Crocs Off Roads. The beach style just dont give me enough support - I find that newer crocs give me more support because I havent broken them in yet. I've heard people swar by night time splints as well..... keeps the foot in a stretched position while they sleep!!
I have the splint, and it helped, but mostly keeping my exercises up after physical therapy ended healed me. When I have pain now I do my exercises, buy a new pair of Crocs, and just be careful of impact.

I have to tell you, I agree with one of the other posters. I have had plantar fasciitis for years, am size 22, and have bilateral knee replacements. I have worn very expensive sneakers and crocs, but the absolute most comfort I have gotten is from the Shape ups. It takes all the pressure off your arch and heel. I had to break them in the first two days. I am an RN and walk a lot. I used to have back and foot pain. I don't have any with the Shape ups. They run small. I usually wear a size 8 shoe, but I had to get a 9.5 in these. I never would have believed these would work. But now, when I try to wear a regular shoe, I can't walk right. It is a very odd thing walking in these. it's like wearing some type of skiis or something. I love them.
I really hope mine work out!

Right??!! I am there with ya. You can try the test seat. I just know I would've been able to do it if it hadn't been for the girls. My son was hysterical b/c they got it shut, and he said "But can you breathe?" and I said "NO." As soon as that one word came out, the thing popped right open. Very funny. It hurt my pride a little, so I went off by myself for a couple minutes to lick my wounds. It ended up not being a big deal b/c it's not a super popular ride yet. My son decided he didn't want to ride it at that time b/c of the fact that he didn't realize he would have to go upside down b/c of the roller coaster he created. He went back in with my mom and created a calmer one.

Just popping in to say I was a huge idiot for not taking Body Glide. I took baby powder, thinking that works at home so it should be fine! Oh my god...I have NEVER chaffed so bad. We're talking swollen, fire red, broken skin chaffing. I could barely walk! I was miserable... and totally baffled. I'm not huge, cute and fluffy definitely, lightly pooh sized even, but I've been to Disney heavier than I am now and I don't know if it was the jeans I was wearing fitting differently but this was still the worse time I've ever had with chaffing. I urge anyone that thinks they're going to have an issue to just pony up and spend the money on Body Glide, even just for the peace of mind that you'll have it with you.

I have never experienced inner thigh chafing like I did at Disney. MISERABLE!!! All Disney carried was baby powder. I looked everywhere! It didn't work. I am going over to Ebay or Amazon and buying body glide right now. I looked at the store today b/c some people said the bandaid brand was cheaper. It was TINY!!!! Body glide it is.

Oh, and I'm doing the Pooh Sized happy dance for paying off my trip today!!!:banana::banana:
