The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

I'm glad to see this topic, but I'm still so apprehensive about our upcoming visit! I'm a 28/30, but just can't believe that stuff would be fun to ride in. All these years I have been afraid to go to Disney, and now that we have two amazing little girls I am not going to avoid it any longer.

We did a DCL cruise and enjoyed it, I'm hoping that our long weekend at the world will be enjoyable as well!

I am losing weight and running almost 5 miles per day but at current I am a 5'11" and 255lbs male. I am very self-conscious and shy. Going in the resort pool is terrifying me. Is there anything I can do to ease myself? Wearing a shirt in the pool seems odd but I don't want to sit on the side while my son is playing in the pool. I haven't taken my shirt off in public for years. Any suggestions?

Goodness, 5 miles a day? How'd you work up to that and how long did it take you? I'd love to learn to run - to me, it's like getting exercise in, in half the time.

As for how to get over that fear, I gotta say what worked for me is the band aid method - you gotta just tear it off and get that initial pain out of the way. I am not a pool or beach girl, but my husband really wanted to go to Jamaica for our honeymoon. He'd already indulged my Disney obsession for a couple vacations, so I went for it. It was the first time I'd been in front of people while wearing a swimsuit in such a long time. I felt super self-conscious, but I found that people didn't stare and they didn't care. I would take off my dress and hop in the water as fast as possible, but after a little time, I was walking around in my swimsuit and visiting the bar in my swimsuit. I think all it takes is that initial "OMG, I can't let people see me like THAT!" - Then you realize nobody is paying attention and there are other fluffy people all around. Be proud that you're getting healthier by being active and let that boost your confidence. Plus, you're there to spend time with your family and build memories with them - don't let anything get in the way of your doing that. :goodvibes
I agree totally. I am terrified of people (especially extended family) seeing my wobbly bits. The first year my momma knew I didn't have a suit, so she went out and bought me one. I wore it and did fine. There are so many pooh sized people that no one cared about my bits. This year I ordered a suit from Lane Bryant that made me feel really good about myself (well, better than i usually feel anyway). I decided to accent the one feature of my body that I feel still looks good. My husband sure did appreciate the picture I sent him of me modeling the new suit! After that it didn't matter bc I knew my husband liked how I looked, and he's the only one that matters. If u feel comfortable in your shirt, wear it. My brother did. My hubby weighs about the same as you and he went without. He rocks it though. He doesn't care what others think, and really no one was paying attention anyway. If u decide to go wihout, it will be just like the aforementioned bandaid. The pain wears off after a while. Good luck!

honestly just do it!! My DH wears his shirt at the pool all the time - and, we've seen a lot of people in general wearing tshirts into the pool because of the florida sun. Dont even hesitate and enjoy that time in the pool! There are ALL sizes of people at Disney - we just got home this am, and had a GREAT TIME!!!!:wizard:

for the advise and support. Can't wait to be going back again. Hopefully another 5 lbs lost before I leave (crossing fingers).

I started walking for 30 min at a time about 6 months ago at 280+lbs and slowly built up my endurance and speed. It sure wasn't easy but I got motivated after quitting smoking that I wont stop now.

Another great idea for wearing a shirt in the pool is to get a "rash guard" shirt. It is a shirt made out of swimsuit material that was originally made popular by surfers to prevent rashes while surfing. You can get them in all sizes and a lot of them are SPF 50+ so have the added benefit of protecting you from the sun. I wear one, a mens 3XL, and so does my son. I've made my son wear one his whole life as he is SOOO pale naturally and just really needs the sun protection. They tend to fit snugly so if you want it loose just buy big. I would normally wear a mens size 2XL and buy a 3XL because I like the loose fit. I know that Lands End sells them for sure but they are a bit pricey. If you google rash guards you will get tons of sites that sell them. I wear a mens because I found that lots of sites carry mens in bigger sizes but it is near impossible to find womens in bigger sizes. I love mine because it doesn't get heavy when wet, like a regular t-shirt and it dries quickly like a bathing suit. I also don't get the wet t-shirt contest look!! :scared1: It is comfy, covers well and is great to swim in. Good luck and have fun!!

How is the fit on Indy Speedway in mk for pooh size?

I haven't ridden Indy in a few years as my son is "too old" (his words) for it but when in years past when I did ride it I was definately pooh sized and don't remember having any trouble. Like a lot of rides at Disney I find that getting in is always easier than getting out but once you figure out that it is perfectly acceptable to stand on the seat while you are getting out (everyone does it - even the little skinny people, lol) it makes life so much easier.

:cool1: Good for you. The first time I went with my son I thought, well even if I can't ride a lot of things I'll still try to have fun and WOW!!! was I suprised. I could (and can) ride everything at WDW and there are plenty of us pooh sized folks there. I didn't feel out of place or uncomfortable and I always have sooo much fun when I go. :lovestruc I hope you have an amazing time with your girls. I'll give you my best Disney advice for us pooh sized folk - do everything you want to do, take it slow and easy - there is a LOT of walking and sometimes I wear myself out at Disney and your kids will wear out too. There is too much to do and see at Disney to do it all so just get done what you can and enjoy what you do. Too often you, unfortunately, see people at Disney who get so wrapped up in rushing to try to fit a lot in that they forget to stop and enjoy the magic :wizard: Finally, WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES, there is nothing worse than bad blisters at Dinsey :scared1: I hope you have the time of your life :woohoo:

just recently back from wdw for the first time and I have to say everyone on this thread was totally right about EVERYTHING that was posted...the only rides I had problems on were pooh and SM...I will NEVER EVER again go on SM...firstly that ride was so jerky it hurt my back and my neck the entire ride and I couldnt enjoy it at all...secondly, I think I have issues with single rider cars..I live in CA and go to DL all the time and we have the single rider cars for 2 rides...Splash and Matterhorn...I dont really have a problem getting out of Matterhorn but I totally did with Splash...and I had the SAME problem getting out of the car in SM...it was totally embarrassing everybody waiting for me to get out:sad2:...I had such a hard time with it...so NO more!!!!...pooh cars at DL are a bit bigger than at wdw...I had to squeeze my way in but I was ok getting out..other than that no problem...

I also wanted to say that I ♥♥♥ Southwest...if anybody read previous posts by me, I was SCARED to death that I wouldnt fit in the seat and they would make me purchase 2 seats...I had heard horror stories about how people were called out at the gate about possibly having to purchase 2 seats but that NEVER happened to me...everyone was so nice and the flight over to Orlando, we got this attendant that was HILARIOUS and did all kinds of jokes and songs...I couldnt believe how many snacks they provided to us...it was a great airline and I will totally use them again:goodvibes

So excited for you!! I know even though I go to Disney every year I was worried about my size this past year as Ive gained a few lbs, and I was sooo happy I fit on everything with my 4 yr old Niece I was so happy to be able to experience all of Disney with her. And Southwest Is my families favorite too!! My pooh butt fit in the seats with an extender but still fit:banana:
