In MAGIC KINGDOM. Does anyone know if you have to be active duty or a Vet to be the chosen family for the flag ceremony? I'm not meaning to disrespect them I just wasn't sure if I had any chance of being chosen. I am a Marine widow. My husband was killed in service and I will have my daughter with me this next trip and thought it would be something extra special for us. I understand if they don't I just figured I would ask if anyone knew the policy.

Also, do you have to wear something military themed like hats or T-shirts to get chosen?

Please use the email address below and Guest Communications will find you an answer.

My "guess" is you would most definitely be someone Disney would want to participate, but, again,I really don't know.

My heart goes out to you and your daughter.

If you don't mind, please post what you find out.:)

Thank you so much! I sent them an email. I will probably be a big blubbering mess if I get chosen as I am such a huge Disney fan so to be able to have that done....it would be such an honor!

You have to be in the right place at the right time. When my grandfather(Vietnam Vet) got to do it they had asked when they came through the turnstiles early in the morning if he happened to be a veteran. (He wasn't wearing anything to suggest or using any military tickets.) We had never heard of it before. They told us to return to flag at a certain time.

The flag retreat is daily at 5pm.

God bless you and your family. Semper Fi.

Also, depending on how old your daughter is, she may be asked to recite the Pledge. My DS 9 did it last year and it was awesome.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your daughter for your loss.

I was asked once if I had served in the military while strolling down Main Street, I replied no. I asked why and the CM told me about the flag retreat. Of course I was bummed. It seems like you need to be at the right place at the right time.

But,I've also read of Vets going by City Hall and "signing up" for that day.

I'm hoping Guest Communications will get the OP to the right people and they will "schedule" her-no one could be any more deserving.

Guest Relations stopped allowing people to request to be veteran of the day about 6 years ago. Chosen by a GR CM daily now and normally fairly early after park opens. Pledge rreciters are chosen by a member of the Dapper Dans from "youth" guests (normally children in the 6 to 8 years old range) in the Town Sq. area about 10 minutes or so prior to Flag Retreat.

Although I have seen it change from the 5:00 PM "slot" on occasion.:)

"Normally" changes to 4:45 after the Christmas tree goes up in Town Sq. and moves over to the near the planter between City Hall and the Firehouse. Another case is if there is some "event" that causes the 5:40 MiSi to go out early, they might move it up, although very rare.
