The End of Spaceship Earth

My 4 kids all love SSE, no matter how many times we ride it! My DS8 considers it his favorite thing at WDW! I have severe motion sickness, so even the "moving theater" attractions are OUT for me! Update SSE, yeah okay, but add "thrills" elsewhere for those that want it! BTW, if I hear one more teen complain about Disney being "boring" I think I'm gonna ralph!! Some of them are just not happy no matter what!

Well, they can take away SE in it's current form, but they can't take away my memories.

I still laugh when I think about the first time I saw that monk asleep at his desk.

That is what Disney has given me. Great memories. Maybe some of the new attractions will do the same.

I don't mind change and upgrading but there has got to be thought of what is good for everyone. My sister is handicapped and cannot handle something like space mountain which seems like what they want to do with SSE. My sister rides SSE with no problems but if you make it into a ride like RnR then she won't be able to enjoy it any more. I think it will get to a point where WDW will become another 6 flags and not what Walt had thought about so many years ago. What will it be next Pirates, Haunted Mansion, they are slow rides. If the thinking of Disney is fast and furious these rides will not be popular with the higher people like Eisner. I will leave you with this, the cars that you ride in, in SSE is from Worlds of Motion.

From what I've heard, AT&T is indeed GONE from SE.

And a rumor (just rumor) I heard about Time Racers was that it would be similar to Soarin' over California at DCA. A thrill ride without a lot of twists, turns, and speed. That'll make a *lot* of people happier if that does happen (because more people can ride it), but it'll be a major down for me -- I thought Soarin' was fun, but didn't consider it the technological and thematical marvel I'd heard about. :(

At the same time, I don't want a thrill ride at all in SE. Even though I like RNRC and an occasional ride on Test Track, I put Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates *way* over RNRC or TT on my scale. We need more of the classic rides that all can enjoy. That are good. Not just "another dark ride" but a *good* dark ride.

While I don't mind a little rehabbing now and then, I cry every time they remove a ride and replace it with something else. Horizons and World of Motion were two of my favorites and I rode them again and again every trip because I loved them! Spaceship Earth is the same, I have to do it multiple times every time I go to Epcot. Thrill rides can be fine, but my children are too small for them so my DH and I have to ride separately all the time. That gets a little stale. We're always taking turns and not getting to share the ride together. Disney is for families, and should keep some things that all family members can do together.

I am one that loves sse. However the only time it is busey is in the morning. other than that there earent many people on it. With that bieng said I can give the scoop on a few things. First sse is going to be gutted. A real state of the art coaster is going to be put in. They are saying a world class coaster. One of my best friends is a coordinator for it. Second, beastly kingdom is not forgotten. It is still in the works and parts are under construction. They are in the process of clearing land and building the foundation for a mountain climbing themed roller coaster. Third, back in epcot, between land and living seas is going to be another new thrill ride called earth wind and fire. I did some of the testing for this myself. It will be pretty cool. thats all for now maybe more later.

I assume the "mountain climbing themed coaster" is Expedition: Everest?
But why would they want to clear additional land for Beastly Kingdom? The area behind the Rainforst Cafe has been cleared for years, as has the area north of Asia. You'd think that gives them all the space they need.

Let's see... You mention 3 coasters all in planning. At this rate WDW will replace Universal as the place with thrill rides.

SAVE Spaceship Earth!!!!!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Removing Horizons, World of Motion and the first Imagination ride was a horrible move. It destroyed Epcot. Attendence dropped - duh. Epcot is not the same. Now there's talk about Spaceship Earth - Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want Time Racers, then great, build it somewhere else in the park. Don't remove the good rides to do so.

I couldn't agree more. I'd love to see the convoluted reasoning to explain how removing three (or four) of your highest capacity attractions would help the park.

Sure, there are many other (and more critical) factors behind the attendance drop, but you cannot totally alter the "character" of the park and not expect people to notice. If these attractions were so unpopular (the typical - if inadequate - explanation), then how exactly did Epcot become the third most popular park in the U.S.? The park's success was built on the Family-style omnimover dark-ride (or boat, etc.). Removing this foundation just seems odd, at least.

Oh no... when is this supposed to happen? I say "oh no" because I rode it on my solo trip but on our only FAMILY trip I didn't even know there was anything IN that and we didn't ride it. So if it changes soon or is in the process of changing now- my kids will never have rode it. Ohwell, add it to the list of things they've never got to do/enjoy because of things closed down and/or changed.

ECCFLASH -

Are you talking about a separate coaster besides Expedition Everest??? Disney announced EE to be built in Asia - nothing new about Beastly Kingdom. Are you saying they are putting in 2 coasters in AK?

I know speculations and rumors on SSE have been floating around for a long time with no confirmations to date.

What type of testing did you participate in for "earth, wind & fire"? What type of attraction is this supposed to be? An entire pavillion?

Melissa

Before I retract my previous comments re: SSE (because I have to admit, time racers sounds pretty good!) it would be really helpful to know if this rumor is a hoax.

I has no idea that Disney had changed the Imagination ride!!! That was my son's favorite ride in all of Disney, and one of our fondest memories from our '96 trip. I expected it to be the same for my daughter this time and was totally confused when we were on it....wondering WHY THEY DID THAT!! It was soooo much better before! It seems like they took a lot of the "fantasy" out of it. It was sad.

It sounds like it would be an entire pavillion, with an e-ticket ride called "Shining Star," a children's exploring playground area called "Boogie Wonderland," a pre-show called "got to get you into my life" and a post-show called "after the love is gone." Sounds like it will rock-

Now that's funny.

These CM's will have the sharpest uniforms in the World too. And since Phillip Bailey hooked up with Phil Collins once before, here is a natural tie in for Disney. They can get together for a couple of movie soundtracks.

Actually, with all the costumes I've worn as a cast member, and there were many, the new costumes for mission space are absolutely the coolest thibngs ive ever seen. I wish I could wear one, but Im stuck at test track.

Anywhey, I did testing first for mission space post show, and the "time racers game is awsome. It is going to have as long of a wait time as the ride itself.

For eart wind and fire I did prelim testing in which about a hundred of us at a time were lined up and went from room to rom just sitting and more sitting in different configurations. It was done to get stats to design to seating situations. Thats about all I can say as I am still a cast member and am only allowed to say very little. But I will say it will be very cool.

For those who complain about the changes. Well folkes, I have to say I agree and disagrree. I also love the classic Disney that drove us all to love all of it. I find it a crying shame that my kids may never experience some of the stuff that I ches=rish so much. However we all talk about the decline of attendence and blah blah blah. Trust me this hits nowhere and noone closer than us cast members whose lives revolve around these rides. We love them as do you but the just arent drawing. At the time when they were built, they were state of the art and a complete draw to everyone because of this. Everyone talks about what would Walt do. Well lets think about this for a min. Walt was an invisioned man who designed for the future for families. Epcot was his dream of the future. He new that to succede you must embrace the future or dye with the past. Epcot WAS educational and was designed to be. But if you do not update the education, then It becomes a history lesson instead. Let us not forget that the T stands for Tomorrow. There is no Y for yesterday. Also we realise that if the thrill is not there for new generations then atendence will continbe to drop. In 1972 when Magic Kingdon opened, Pirates was an E-Ticket ride. Thrilling adventurous and state of the art. Today, although a classic and we love it, who here would consider it a thrill ride. My favorite, carrosell of progress, we all know the story about it and it saddens me, (open for the summer, yeaaaa) is the words of Walt embrasing the future and the changes contained therein.

Please remember as you read this folfs that I say it with the most love admiration and respect that are possible. I know we are all here out of shear love and I dont believe that, except for my daughter, Nothing could be closer to my heart or truer to my dreams than Disney. For "Us" it is a passion that burns in a manner that will never be put out, no matter what they change.

Of course, it will open on the 21st night of September.

Man, Disneys going downhill on that one. Why they just build it somewhere else in that park? Don't tell me that there's no other communications company who'd be willing to sponser SSE. Several wireless companies come to mind. Internet too. AT&T isn't the only place that works with communications. What, is Rolex sponsering now?

I'll tell you why they'll gut SSE for a roller coaster. It all comes down to money.Coasters are easier and less costly to maintain than audio animatronics which equals less staff to maintain them too.Audio animatronics is what set Disney apart from your run of the mill theme park. Now c'mon isn't that what comes to mind when you hear WDW....moving pirates, ghosts, birds, bears, jungle critters and presidents? So life like you could SWEAR they were breathing! Yes all the thrill stuff is fine but to keep the magic in Disney they can't keep taking out these rides(Horizons,WoM,Dreamkeeper)...don't be surprised if one day it's not Cardboard Cutouts of the Carribean.:(
