The End of Refillable Mugs in Disney World?

If you're worried about privacy, I suggest you shut off your computer, get rid of all your ID, and never talk to anyone on the phone.

Conspiracy theorists are just that, theorists. They will find any possible way that "big brother" will come and get you, whether it makes any sense to or not. Companies don't just gather data for the sake of gathering data, it has to make economic sense to do so. They don't care about what any given individual does or doesn't do, it's all about trends, or in other words, what the masses do or don't do.
I would agree with that except for when tracking of a Guest gets granular in a court case. Working in Network/Physical Security, I happen to have a plethora of experience in this realm. It becomes relevant when it is convenient for legal settings.

not to put words in the OP's mouth but i think what he is saying is the thread is not about fluid intake. its about privacy. as i stated in my original post the concept as far as it goes seems reasonable to me. however the mug system itself is almost metaphoric. in other words how much is to much? that issue is playing out on the world stage right now with talks about biometric passports and work visa's to keep tabs on illegal aliens. Question, do "they" have a right to know where "we" are and what we are doing 24 hours a day? be it Disney or Government.

I understood what he was saying. Really. I'm brighter than I look.

I was commenting on the fact that folks get in a uproar over how many times you fill your mug and what year you bought your mug and using your mug after you've checked out and what Disney needs to do to fix the mug dilemma and whether using your mug constitutes stealing and whether everyone pays higher prices because people are stealing soda and the moral implications of your children watching you steal soda and whether you rinsed your freakin mug out before you stole soda in a mug you bought at Dixie Landings which doesnt exist anymore and how we're all going to end up sorry in the long run because Disney might stop offering mugs or even worse stop offering soda altogether because of the freakin refillable mugs.

What I'm actually trying to say is I find it amazing that a refillable mug always causes the longest threads and that I find it silly...or amusing...or a bit scary that anyone is this invested in what others do or have done or will do with their mug.

You should know by now Kevin, that there are a bunch on here that have a strong opinion about everything and anything. Be it leashing your kids (I prefer mine wireless), late use of fast passes, Michael Jackson back in the parks, RFID chips, people will argue about any little thing on here, and have fun doing it.

Very well put Kevin.

I lurked for some time before I started posting on the Dis and one of he first threads that I noticed was a mug thread. This was a few years ago. It amazed me how heated people got over mugs. My oldest son found me reading said thread back then and wondered how the heck people got in such a tizzy over the topic. Anyway , same son this morning walks up behind me and sees me reading this thread and says "Seriously? Are they STILL on about the mugs?" Maybe you had to be here but it was pretty funny.:rotfl2:

You'll have to use your Key to the World to enter the restroom. It will use RFID to determine how many squares of TP you used. They will also be renaming the key to "Key to the TP"! :lmao:

Now THAT would be scary! However they could then know who was in the toilet at what time, and start telling off people who don't leave it in a state they would be happy using! Maybe it could tell if they washed their hands too.... :lmao:

Wouldnt it be easier to put the chip in the mug?

Mugs are not what Disney is concerned about. Disney is concerned about how much, how often, and where. This is also combined with all of the information concerning your trip to capture a profile for your trip.

OMG - I just realized that Disney is going to make you into an Avatar! They want you to have a Virtual trip to the world. :rotfl2:

The resort mugs are going to be like the Barcode readers they have at the Water Parks - only good for that visit - thus tied to either a chip in the mug or in the KTWC - thus once purchased your mug usage is good until Midnight the day of check-out.

If they do it with the KTWC then you could use any cup/mug and not be required to purchase a new mug each time, just the drink machine access.

Sorry, I didn't read through all four pages of this post, but I think I get the gist of it.

Why don't they just get rid of the mug system, lower the price of the individual drinks, and sell them the old fashioned way - with a host or hostess serving guests? Then they don't have to worry about people "stealing" drinks, and they might even provide some good old fashioned Disney service in the process!

It's only fun until someone gets hurt.

OMG....I'm channeling my mother.:lmao:

1984? Who cares?

i am not worried about Big Brother coming to get me. it would just bother me that if he indeed wanted to he would know just where to look.:)

I understood what he was saying. Really. I'm brighter than I look.
i never doubted that for one second:thumbsup2

or even Dale for that matter.

Okay, I am going to be briefly sucked into the refillable mug discussion. And please forgive me, because I personally have never had one, but if they put chips in the mugs or the keycards or into the mug buyer's forehead and the chip is needed to activate the soda machine...then how are people who don't purchase the refillable feature going to use the soda machine?

I know i feel a little.........well..........to late now.......in for a penny, in for a pound. they would have to extend it to every cup that is put up.........one drink credit with each counter service meal, etc, etc.

If they do implement some new system for the mugs it would be nice if they would allow you to reuse the mug from previous trips. It would save you the price of buying another mug and it would be better for the environment. :hippie:

i think the "how much plastic is in the landfills that is not going to degrade anytime soon" thread is over on the community board.:rotfl2:

Wooh eee, lots of arm chair quarterbacking in this thread, no?

This is probably very true. I used to umpire slow pitch softball for a very large softball complex. They sold quite a bit of Coke product. So much so, that not only did Coke give them their products for free, but even paid them to use their product exclusively.

I don't know how that works as a business model for Coke. I guess it would be more of an advertisment or presence sort of thing to keep individuals buying it in convenient stores, or other venues.
