HI DIS Friends,

FYI,

Since I've seen some threads about this interesting family. The new up to date Duggar family "Moving IN" will air this Saturday night, 9:00 p.m., on the TLC.

This christian family is the one that has 16 kids all with their names beginning with the letter "J".

Interesting! Thanks for the post. I saw them on some news show a few years ago and I was flat out amazed at her management skills. Impressive!

Is this the family that everything is so orderly and runs like clockwork...and everyone is always smiling? If so, they are truly amazing! :teeth:

OK - getting the flameproof suit on......

I saw the special on them too and to tell ya the truth, the kind of creep me out. The kids do most of the chores, they are homeschooled and have their own "church" in their home on Sundays. They don't interact with families other than the ones in their "church". I know they showed them interacting with another family, but...... I don't know, it's just too wierd for me. If they are happy, then great, but those kids will get culture shock if they step out of their neat little circle. They seem to "stepford" for me. That said - I will Tivo it and check it out - very curious.

No flames from me. I'll watch just for the pure creepiness factor. I would be more impressed with Ms. Duggar's organizational skills if she ran a business. Making her children run the house and take care of each other is just wrong in my opinion. And of course they are always smiling, they are on t.v and I'm pretty sure this show is going to be their main source of income from now on.

Those kids better smile for the camera or no tatertot casserole for them!

i'm glad I'm not too late. Thanks for the reminder. I've been waiting for their family update. #15 is coming right?

No, I think you're one behind!!! I think we are waiting on #16 now....

I am wildly impressed by this family.

I don't think there is anything wrong with home-schooling. It would be hard for them to afford private school for ten kids. I'm sure she does as good a job, probably a better job than the public schools.

And I don't think there is anything wrong with kids watching their younger siblings or doing chores. I have a friend who was the oldest of 11, and the kids in that house did chores and watched each other, too. Five of them went to Ivy League colleges, 4 went to decent colleges and two went to your basic state schools. Get that? 11 of 11 went to college, most of them very good schools. That's no accident. That's good genes and good parenting.

Those J kids seem smart, strong, capable, and very loving. You could do a lot worse.

Watching the Duggars TV special is a bit like watching a show about safari, or Antarctica. I mean it ... it's that distant from my own culture.

See, I didn't get that by watching the show.

OK, the very loving part, sure. I think one of my (many) issues with the way the Duggar's raise their children is that they are not taught to be free thinkers or think critically, based on what we saw of their "homeschooling." (i.e. Teaching about bankruptcy to all children ages 5-18 while also dealing with several infants/toddlers/preschoolers does not make for the best learning environment.) Also, it bothered me more than a little bit that ALL of the girls wanted nothing more out of life than to be a stay-at-home mom to they own enormous families. If that's what you want, that's super, but I take exception when that is presented as the only option.

I certainly don't seem them as capable. I think that survival outside of their compund will be nearly impossible considering how sheltered they all are. Heaven forbid they come upon someone different or something dangerous. I just don't know if they could handle it, considering they have little to no exposure.

Don't get me wrong, I'll watch the show tonight.... if nothing else than to get more squicked out.

#16 is already here -- they're hoping to be blessed with more!

Impressed is not a word I would use in relationship to this family -- scary, maybe. The hair, the uniforms, the isolation, especially the links from the website . . . I'm with Dana -- I might as well be on a different planet as they are.

I'll probably watch it like a train wreck I just can't turn away. You know those kids are gone turn out like at least 4-6 of them will be wild and in trouble. 4-6 6f them will be just like there parents and the rest will be regular normal folk. Good luck to them. My SIL is on #4 and I'd rather take the gas pipe than have that brood.

I'm bothered by what lie's ahead for these children as adults but with the state of today's school's i don't blame them for home schooling. Hopfully outside of what we have seen on the tv program they have a generous amout of interaction with other children their own age even if it is with groups of their own religion. I also worry for these girls if they don't find the man that's supposed to take CARE of them for life, will they be prepared to support themselves. I really hope this life style works out for everyone involved as they appear to be very nice well meaning people who love each other very much. As far as helping with chores and siblings i'm all for it as long as they have kid time to them selves. I can't wait for tonight's show. :grouphug: Susan :grouphug:

They don't just have the older kids do chores....they had the older boys building the house. I'm from a family of 7 and my parents believed in letting kids be kids. This family is just a little out there to me. I'll probably watch though anyway.
