The Duggars can't dance?

I mostly listen to Christian music as well. Of course, many people would not realize it was Christian music, because it is Christian rock and in some cases almost rap. I think that genre of music has done a lot to get people involved in church that never had been before. I know for young people it makes a big difference.

Ours has never done that. They actually considered having the ACC Tournament on one year through the projector, but with fans of all the teams attending the church, it might have made for some very un-Christian comments, LOL. We do host a lot of non-church events, like scouts, Homeowner's Association meetings, etc. We feel that a church should be a part of the community.

We do have movie clips that are relative to the sermon. And lots of humor in the sermon. It's nice to enjoy church again and actually feel like I got something out of it.

I've been known to covort with Christians myself because they're quite involved with our community food bank. :goodvibes

bookgirl-Hopefully you're being sarcastic about the Southern Baptists. That is not the stance of the Southern Baptist Association and hasn't been in my lifetime. There are plenty of religious groups who believe that way, but the massive SBA isn't one of them. Or if they are, I guess my card is being revoked (now I'm the one being sarcastic) since I took all those years of dance lessons and still have a hard time sitting still when music plays.

chobie-I think you've hit the point of Duggar overload, my friend. Time to walk away and never look back. But we all know that we all end up coming back because it's like a train wreck on Tivo.

Nope actually being serious. There are Southern Baptist and for that matter Southern Nazerene (I was raised in a SN fundamental church) churches that still ban dancing and drinking at church and school functions and honestly strive for thier congregation to forbid it at home as well. Not all Baptists are going to be that strict but many in the bible belt still are and since the Duggars are Southern Baptists and live three hours down the road from me I'm betting they are part of that belief system as well. There are tons of churches in my area not just the Baptist or Nazerenes that are still very conservative.

In my library (suburb upper income area outside of Oklahoma City) there are at least 50 home school families and probably half of them are the girls in long skirts, no watching tv, bible based curriculm Dugger type of families (I'm actually including the memonites and LDS's in there though they are not exectaly like the Duggars, but still conservative). Maybe that's why the Duggars don't bother me even though in my personal life they are 180 degrees from my own belief system. I work with these families every day and despite our differences they are really nice families, who just happen to believe in another way of life than me.

So I wasn't meaning to insult any Southern Baptists, I know that there are different degrees depending on your church's standards, I'm just telling you what I know about this area and it's religion. I am sorry if it sounded like I was making fun of you I really wasn't.

Some years ago, in HS, I ended up going to a private Christian school for the summer, and they did not dance. They tried to explain it to me, something along the lines that it causes (or may cause) you to sin.

In fact, due to that, their "prom" for the seniors (a whopping class of 15!) consisted of dressing up in typical formal prom attire, and going out to dinner.

But, who am I to pick on someone else's religious beliefs, ya know? I thought it was silly, but I respected their choice, and everyone - teachers and students - were really sweet. Much like the Duggars, come to think of it.

I saw this episode and I just shook my head at the father ... I mean you can believe as you wish but to teach your children that music changes you? Good grief.
