Personally, I think it's stupid and unfair to the rest of the kids. There, I said it.

Agreed. Selfish IMHO to the younger siblings having to raise them.

Personally, I think she treats her uterus like its a clown car.

She'll just throw them on the pile with the rest of them and expect their "buddy" or whatever she calls them to raise them in their "jurisdictions".

All I can picture are the loads of Shoot me now!

She breastfeeds weans them at 6 months so that she can hand them off to their "buddy" and get pregnant again.

Man, My MIL breast fed all 12 of hers for like 2 years APIECE....

I would assume that the "natural" birth control would limit her fertility,.

Natural birth control....yeh tell that to my good friends that both got pregnant when their youngest was only 3 months old and they were breast feeding exclusively...... . It is funny now---but it so wasn't at the time for them.....

Oh, I absolutely know it doesn't work as effective BC (that's why we have our youngest, the breastfeeding/baby gods looked down on us a giggled wildly )
I just figured if she'd nursed that many kids it might have reduced her overall fertility, and she'd at least have fewer children.
Does that make any sense?

My first reaction when I heard this was, "Again?? OMG!!"

But the more I thought about it, I think I'd rather see a nice lady, who appears to be a good mom and wants these children, have another baby as opposed to a young teen, an abusive parent, a drug-addict, etc., etc.

Eighteen children is not MY personal dream come true, but to each his own.

I do wonder if the parents ever talk to the siblings about their desire to add to the family. If the kids were looking appalled about it when the mom announced it, maybe there are some conflicts here?

They asked the oldest boy for a reaction and he looked ill about it IMO. He seemed shocked, which I don't understand.

They definitely rid her of the early 90's hair-do.

I hope it all works out for them.

My guess is that it means even more work for him.

I wonder how much of life the older kids have. I bet they are made to take care of the older ones.

Yes. The conflicts are that the older children have to RAISE (not help, but RAISE) the younger children

I know it's been said before, but it all reminds me of that Meaning of Life skit where the woman has a baby while doing dishes. It just drops out of her uterus and onto the floor and she asked her daughter, "Get that, will ya, love?"

Now, don't hit them this way. She didn't "plan" on having this many. Jon and Kate do a great job with their children and they don't let the older children raise the little ones. If you have ever watched Jon and Kate closely, she will tell you that they didn't want to go on television and tehy do not use it for their paychecks. I visit their website and they go out and talk to church groups and her DH has a great job.

These two families are in 2 significantly different worlds.

Here's a question-please forgive me if it's dumb...

She's pregnant with her 18th child. At what point does her health become an issue with basically yearly pregnancies? Do OB's worry about taking patients like this, or is no big deal?
