The Doors had hoped to debut a reconstituted version of the band next week, but they'll have to wait until next year because their new drummer, Stewart Copeland, broke his arm. Copeland, a former member of the Police, was injured during the Thanksgiving holiday when he fell from his bicycle on a path near his Los Angeles home, the band's publicists said on Monday (December 2).

The new group features two originals, keyboardist Ray Manzarek and lead guitarist Robby Krieger. They are joined by Copeland, who replaces founding member John Densmore on drums, and singer Ian Astbury of the Cult, filling the shoes of Morrison on lead vocals.

Well, I liked the Cult, and I love Stuart Copeland...

Coudl be interesting, or just different... hey other groups have done it.

It's funny.....on my son's Tony Hawk's ProSkater for Gamecube, there is a song on it that I absolutely love....She Sells Santuary. Anyway...I never payed too much attention to The Cult until I heard it on the game! Now I have 2 of their CDs!

And I've been a Police fan since the early 1980's.

Should be interesting to say the least....it just might work.

I'm interested in hearing what true die-hard Doors fans think.

Wow, She sells sancutuary on a PS game.. I remember when that song originally came out.. I'm thinking late 80's.. I have the cassette of it.. (shows you how old I am)

The Cult is really good, but some of thier stuff is pretty dark..

This change reminds me of ELO. ELO had a few band members quit, and a few moved on. We saw the second incarnation of ELO (I think contractually they had to call it ELO II) at a bar around here a few years ago. It had some of the original band members, but my DH said the lead singer was different (same vocal range, differenet guy), and one guitar player.

It still was great though. Journey has a new lead singer as well, same with 10,000 maniacs, and a few other bands.. they manage quite well.

They should get Val to sing for them.

Shannon.. have you seen that Apple Computer commerical with Val Kilmer in it...

Well, lets just say, he won't light any fires anymore...

Ever since Ray Manzarek sent me two authentic autographs and a CD for free - I'll listen to ANYTHING he wants to play. ;)

No, Cindy, I haven't. Does he look bad or does he act weird in the commercial?

um.. he looks geeky..

Ill see if I can find a link of it... I'm picture posting illiterate

The Doors are one of my favorites....Wonder why Densmore isn't involved with the group. I thought they were awesome when they had various singers do some of the hits with them.

Did anyone see VH1's Story Tellers with STP's Scott Weiland singing Break on Through and Creed's Scott Stapp doing Riders on The Storm? They did a pretty darned good job!

but think that they should call "this" band something else. Remember Jefferson Airplane/J. Starship, etc? Could be a great band, but, without Jim, they just aren't the Doors. (And, yes, I loved the movie, even though I am *not* fond of Val...)

Ian Astbury is a great singer, and the band will be good, but it isn't the Doors. That's a bit like having someone replace Mick Jagger in the Stones...get real:rolleyes:

I always thought The Doors were highly overrated. They didn't even have a bass player.

And Jim Morrison really didn't have that great of vocal range, imo. Their lyrics were interesting, though, I'll give them credit for that.

Sorry I'm getting back to this thread a little late...couldn't find it!

I agree Snoopy, The Doors wasn't one of the best bands of all times, but they had a certain mystique...and females loved Jim for that mystique, that dark side of him that made him so alluring.

I agree, they should rename the band.....maybe Open Doors, Closed Doors....Doors Reborn, etc. :p

I have John Densmore's bio book, and according to him, although they didn't have a steady bass player, they sometimes used studio musicians when recording. But for the most part, Ray Manzarek filled in the 'blanks' with the keyboard.

Ummmmm..... somebody may be doing the lead vocals- but he won't be filling Jim Morrison's shoes.

Big doors fan here.... now if you wanna talk about over rated musicians.... I always thought John Lennon was waaaaaaay over rated! ICK!

I highly recommend reading Ray Manzarek's autobiography. That guy is a GENIUS. After reading that, he makes the "so-called" genius Eminem look like Gilligan.

LOL... now everytime I see Eminem I'm gonna picture him with that goofy looking white hat on!
