Could really use so help! We are staying at the Dolphin this November using the Teacher/Nurse discount. If you have this room and use SPG points (1,000 per night) to get the room upgrade, what kind of upgrade is it? Are we talking an upgrade to the club level or just a room with a view? We have never stayed at the Dolphin or used our SPG points so could use any and all advice you all may have.

Is there a room recommendation that anyone would have for the Dolphin?

Thank you so much for your help!

Just got back from WDW and stayed the first night at THE DOLPHIN with the teacher's discount. Another member here made this recommendation, I can't remember who( BUT THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION!!).
He/She said to request the east wing 7th floor or higher facing epcot. I did this on the starwood website, providing you joined.
I got room 7017? or wasit 7013? Well, it was a great room that faced Epcot, Yacht club and we saw both 900 fireworks from Epcot and 1200 fireworks from Pleasure Island. It was a great view.

We are also staying in the Dolphin in November and wonder if anyone knowa if Brits are eligible to join Starwoods? The idea of an upgrade appeals lots but I think the chances are probably slim without membership of Starwoods? What does everyone think?

christi ~ Your chances are indeed increased to get an upgrade if you are an spg member. I don't believe there is any restriction b/c you are British. It is free to join - www.spg.com. Check the website to see if there are any location restrictions.

To increase our chances (and it worked), I applied for and received the Starwood AMEX cc.

Starwood is worldwide, so being a brit should not affect you signing up. Sign up as soon as you can and start getting points. You can transfer points from your American Express card, or apply for a STarwood Amex to get them even faster.

When you upgrade you go up to the next level up from what you booked if I am not mistaken. So to go to concierge, you would have to be in a resort view balcony room :)

Thanks Glo, do you know if I would stand any chance at all of an upgrade if I didn't have the correct number of points on the card?
I'm not sure I'd be able to accrue them in time! My intention is to plead a combination of the card plus Government worker status!( I work in a hospital!) I have already booked my room with Virgin, so can't get the reduced rates but hope I might stand a chance of upgrade.
Worth a try?

christi - We booked a standard room with the teacher rate and I received a comp upgrade to CL. I say go ahead and try - it can't hurt.

They are very liberal with their upgrades. If they have one and you ask for an upgrade they will probably honor it. I have always gotten an upgrade, but an upgrade from a standard room to concierge is quite a jump, and I think the chance of that are low...maybe a balcony room...
