I have a party of 8, so the 18% tip will be included on my bill. My question is...if I chose to use cash for tips, and write "cash" on the ticket, is there anyway to prove later that I actually left a cash tip? I don't want to get my bill later at the resort and have a "mandatory" tip charged when I know I took care of that already w/cash.

I don't get subtracting the entertainment fee regarding the tip though. The fee, where it existed, wasn't intended to be a tip.

They weren't saying you deducted the $5 from the tip. They were saying that you deducted the $5 before calculating the tip. Therefore if your total bill was $105 and you were charged a $5 entertainment fee, your 18% tip would be $18 not $18.90

You can give the server the cash at the time you pay the bill to pay the tip. If you want to tip extra, then I'd leave that on the table.

Wouldn't they have to deduct a $5 entertainment fee per person? That's a lot of deduction.

At any rate they no longer charge a separate "entertainment fee."

The 18% is on your bill, and is separate from the "tip" line on your ticket. You pay it the same way you would pay the check at any other restaurant. If you want to feel better about it, when the server comes with the check, give him the cash with the form of payment you will be using to cover the rest of the bill (your KTTW cards or your credit card).

I have seen the other post regarding this, but want to know--- has anyone used your Disney Reward Dollars to pay for your tips? Was there any problems doing this?? Did the waiters accept it with no problem??

What you do is use your rewards card as a credit card. So when you get your bill you'll write in how much you want to tip. You give the rewards card to your server with the bill and ask them to charge that amount (the tip amount) to the rewards card.

I think the included tip (madatory) makes it fair since it wouldn't be fair to the servers (or guests that tip well) if people didn't tip. Often foreighners aren't use to tipping so I wish all restaurants with servers would make this a policy (of course if service was horrific you could speak to a manager to get the tip changed or leave more for superior service)

I am sure this has probably beenasked but I have read pages and pages and even skipped around...
On new DDP at counter service is there a tip expected?
If there are 7 in your party at counter service is there a tip charged or expected?
If we were to split up, would we be subject to tip charge/expectation?

I used to be a trainer for a large restaurant chain and DH a District manager for a diff large restaurant chain for over 11 years- We definitely believe in tipping, But I grade our service and tip accordingly- I understand at Table service the tip will be for parties of 6 or more and of course now that there is no tip included in DDP that it will be added to our bill- no problem there-
Counter service- I am curious... Any info is appreciated.

If you are not using a DDE card and are a party of 5 or less, then you are free to tip at your discretion. Parties of 6 or more and those with the DDE card (regardless of Party Size) are subject to an automatic 18% gratuity.

Disney doesn't discern between buffet service or regular sit down table service for percentage. However, since it seems that you'll be a party of 2 with no DDE card, tip at your own discretion based on your service.

Unfortunately discussing what's 'right' at buffets has lead to many closed tipping threads. If you peek through this thread you'll get a few ideas and can make your own decision of what's right for your group :

I have a very good friend who is a server at one of the restaurants in MGM (hollywood studios) Ever since free dining has started she and many other servers are being stiffed on their tips. It really is a sad situation. Today she had a party of six so the mandatory 18% was added to the bill. The customers did not pay it and she still has to pay tax on it.In this instance the manager charged it back to the room.Thank goodness.

My PSA is please remember to tip your servers!!

This is also noteable because there were a few questions about what would happen if a party left without paying the mandatory tip for parties of 6 or more, or didn't pay it in full. In this case, it was charged back to the room.

If you have a service issue and want to address the automatic tip, you should contact the restaurant manager.

unfortunately its not just a disney problem. i am a server and it happens, to the best. its part of the business.

also i wonder if many people still think the tip is included and never even look at the bill

We use a Disney Dining card and of course we are charged the automatic 18%.....so if I write"cash" in the tip portion of the receipt I can tip with cash.
I do not like tips to go on my credit card.

Your bill will look something like this:

Food - $100.00
Discount - -$20.00
Tax - $5.20 (Tax is calculated on the post discount amount)
Gratuity - $18.00

Subtotal - $103.20

Tip _______________

Total Due __________

You, if you aren't tipping additional, you'll write in $103.20. You can give them $18 in cash and then ask them to bill the rest to your credit card if you don't want the gratuity to go on your card.
