The disney survival bag swap... on hold

Do I have this right....people are sharing bottles of shampoo, foot lotion, SPONGES and tubes of toothpaste? Blech. Doesn't the hotel provide shampoo?

Green Tea,
A swap/share isn't for everyone. Please don't feel obligated to participate if it isn't something that appeals to you.

Most of us are going into this with the best of intentions... traveling with children, I often go a bit overboard when planning/preparing for the trip and try to cover all possibilities. Often that means I'm left with extra rain ponchos, boxes of granola bars, bottles of water, etc. because I thought we "might" run out and I was raised with the better safe than sorry mentality. Of course, the ONE thing I forget to pack is often what I end up needing. Thus, the survival bag.

If I can pass forward our extra supplies and avoid having to purchase a whole bottle of conditioner or tube of toothpaste because we ran out the day before we left then I'm going to be one happy mom!:goodvibes Do I plan on using a product someone else has already opened? No. But, I have no concerns about using an unopened sample that someone has donated to our survival bag.

Let's be honest I'm sure most of us would be happy to finally get rid of all of the little samples of products we've accumulated over time and it will ease our conscience to know we're not just throwing them away!:lmao:

New Update:

I grab a bunch of mickey paint cards from the H.D. Look at your name, and find your paint name. Then you can go to H.D. to check out the color. Each card has your Dis name, resort, and dates. So you if you need to pick it up from baggage holders you'll have something to recognize it by. And also on the back of the tag will be my information in case you need to get in contact with me.
(I know I'm missing a few on the top... my mistake I need to go pick up a few more cards.)

Princess April

I have sent you a PM and have yet to heard from you. Please write to me to arrange the transfer.

What do we do if the person doesn't respond and the dates for the next person is the way after our departure.

I'll pick it up and hang on to it. So for now there's a few people I'll have to pick it up from because there's no one after directly after them.
So for now, I'll pick it up after more for mickey (plus they're staying off site)... after princessapril, lilmissie, mrsannb, and so on. I want every one to be able to have an opprotunity to have it, not just any one staying at POP or All stars like some of the other swaps.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I forgot to check back I am staying at Wilderness Lodge from October 18th-23rd. I believe the next person is starting at Wilderness lodge on October 25th, So I could probably leave it for them so you don't have to pick it up from me.

Just an idea. I have gone back and re-read everything but it may come in handy to post a picture every once in a while of the status of the suitcase (especially if it is going hand to hand but not to the orrigional owner for a while) just to make sure it is staying in good condition and people may have some ideas of what to put in there if they see it. (I'm a picture person lol)

Won't each person, bringing it to the next user's resort leave it at the baggage area?
How will these tags get on the bags? Youre going to mail to the previous user the tag for the next user?:confused3

yeah I know... Kari just got a new phone, which has a better camera on it. Unfortantly I don't have a USB cable for my camera. So I would have to do it the hard way of taking the picture, going to the store to put it on a CD to then put it on the computer to share... with the phone I can just email it to myself.

I've included the tags in the bag. The user will just swap out their tag for the next one. They're in order and dated with the hotel on them.

If for some reason a user cannot meet up with the next person due to timing. Then it would be left at the baggage hold till they arrive.
Let's say user A leaves on ME at 3pm... they hop over to the next resort in the morning, drop it off at baggage for user B to pick up at 6pm when they arrive at the resort.
If User A was to depart on the 10th, but User B wasn't going to be here till the 15th. I'd simply pick it up from A and deliver it to the resort of User B.

To my knowledge, you don't tip the baggage people for just placing it in the holding area. You only tip if you have the bags delivered to your room.

This is the first time I've ever done such a thing... I'm still trying to figure it all out to make it work. But I really won't know till the first person comes along.

I am staying at the Poly now and have a few things I would like to leave for some one to use- can I put them in a bag and leave them with bell services for you to pick up- I have stroller things and maybe some other stuff.

Cool. When are you checking out?? I'll probably be able to meet up with you if you would like.

I love the Budget Board and the great ideas! I'd love to participate! We will be at the BWV Oct 10 checking out Oct 17. I'm sure we'll have unused food/drink stuff. And I have a couple Disney pins that I've somehow received and since I'm not a pin collector I'd love to pass it on to someone who is.

If you drop something off at bell services for storage, you should tip them. And who ever picks it up should tip them, too. They are providing a service, delivery or not. I for one would be hard pressed to participate in the "go from Pop to the CBR" the morning I am checking out, because with out a car (using DME) I would have to either take a cab from one resort to the other and have the driver wait, spending probably $12, or schlep the bag on a bus to somewhere that I could change and get on the bus to the other resort and then repeat it backwards. A LARGE waste of time. There is no fast way to resort hop unless you are on the monorail loop. I hope this works out for those who are participating.

Well some users don't mind resort hoping, some have cars, some are staying at the same resort and if it can't work out then I'll stop by and pick it up and drop it off.

So for POP fridge swap when one user leaves it at the baggage hold for the next person, who tips?? I've left stuff at hold and never tipped any one, the person that actually took the items didn't do anything special or out of their way.

I always tip at drop off and at pick up. Seriously, they are providing you are service, why not pay the extra buck each time? Yes, this is the budget board and everyone is trying to be frugal, but please, these CMs are being asked to store a bunch of refrigerators, strollers, coffee pots, toasters, and now a bag full of leftover stuff for the convenience of people who don't want to pay to rent the fridge, seem to think they only need a stroller at WDW rather than the airports down and back, can't pack everything in their car with them, or can't stop at the gift shop for a box of band aids. So yeah, I think a tip is definately a nice thing to do. But to each their own, I hope the bag continues to be refilled and everyone can make use of it.

I often drop off my bag at bell services at non-Disney hotels and use the same general ettiquete as valet which is no tip when you leave the bag/car but a tip when you get it back. If there is pickup or delivery to or from your room than an tip is certainly in order.

Is there a list as to what is in the bag somewhere?
This might help us to see what we would have in it. List maker here LOL:goodvibes
