The disney survival bag swap... on hold

Any thoughts as to what the Survival Bag/Box will look like and how it will be organized?

I'd like to suggest that perhaps some of the first people could donate some small clear plastic containers with lids (can get Sterlite ones at Wal-Mart for less than $5 I believe).

This would help keep the bag/box more organized. We could label the containers:

- Toys
- First Aid
- Baby Supplies
- Toiletries
- Food
- Light-ups
Etc.

Another option is to just use Ziploc bags -- 1 gallon, 2 gallon and maybe even those L or XL bags.

Or maybe a combination of the plastic containers and bags since some toiletries may be better off in a hard-sided bin and other stuff can just be grouped together in Ziplocs. Then all the containers and/or Ziplocs can be placed into a large box or large bag.

Otherwise I'm afraid everything will get jumbled all together and make it hard to find what you are looking for; toiletries can leak or get crushed, etc.

If we still need some containers or bags when I get the bag/box in November, I'll buy some and put it in my luggage.

Thoughts?

It will be in my large rolling suitcase for easy transport. There will also be a cooler (about 24 can size).

I've got a ton of shoe box size bins, but i can't find any of the lids... but home depot sells them for a 1$ a piece. toiletry will be in little baggies inside the bin. A box of sandwhich ziplocs would be good too. especially for those wanting to store thier wallet/phones while on wet rides. Then grocery bags would probably work just fine for keeping snacks and other things seperate. I figure drinks could be stored in the cooler. And smaller toys in thier own bag. Of course some of the larger ones won't fit. And then I plan on having a welcome note in the front pouch.

I'll end up with it occasionally so I can clean anything unusable out and see what else needs to get added.

Princess April, please respond to the PM! I think I will add in a few $1 ponchos too. We always bring too many.

We will deliver it to Princess April when she contacts me to make arrangements. I am going to get it from Parkers Mom on the evening of the 23rd. On Sept. 30th we will be at BCV. I like that the person who gets it next needs to pick up. Parkers Mom was great about working out the details and we have options.

Should we just leave it with Bell services at the next persons hotel if they are unable to meet?

This is a very strange donation. I am very active on the disboutique board. We make custom Disney clothes for our children and family. What if I made a med size princess skirt with an elastic waist band? And a matching shirt. Is that too weird?

I don't know how wierd it would be... I was thinking of something similar. With a Med it's possible to fit a large group of kids. Even if it needs a safety pin for a smaller girl. Maybe a vest or demin jacket, that would hold up a bit better. And well eventually it will get cold.

I also got a copy of the Hidden Mickey guide book. And two spinners, the scorcerer mickey and minnie mouse ones.
I'm still looking for a decent fanny pack, so kids can have thier own little bag of stuff. But I don't think it's highly important.

I have the 3 Imaginering guides around here that I am planning on putting in. Is everyone mailing their stuff down early to SandrA9810 or are they just waiting till they get the bag to put the stuff in?

I was just going to add/replenish things (rain ponchos, ziplock bags, snacks, etc.) when I got there, but I can send the non food items now, if needed.

We do not have a trip planned currently, but I have some stuff leftover from out last trip that my kids won't ever use, and some samples that I will send if somebody can email me an address.

Thanks

If you're top of the list, I see no problem in waiting till you get here. It's good to have a few things to start with. As to why I've purchased a few things as well and dug up a few old things. I'm gonna get a list together *cross my fingers* by the end of the day. And I'll post it on the first page. Unfortunatly I don't have food to start off the pass with. That will be added by every one as you get here. Although I might put together some smore's kits. We're taking a friend to the fort's campfire and well we can never all of it, and we don't do it very often. They also do a campfire at Yacht and Beach Club, but it's not as good.

i've also purchased a plastic ID holder. It will be the responsibility of each user to put the next person's tag in it. I'm going to grab a bunch of those mickey samples at Home Depot in different colors. So your name, hotel, dates will be on the tag. I'll also post a picture of the bag so every one has an idea of what to look for.
There will be a little letter, a list of items that should be kept in the bag, and a list of every one getting it. If you use up the last of something, write it on the paper so I can post back and let the next user know.

Do you normally tip the luggage people if they hold your bags for you?? Like if you're checking out but not leaving till the end of the day. I know the guys that take your stuff to your room gets tips.

I'm glad to see another take on the Pay It Forward swap. I know very few DISers who DON'T have something leftover at the end of a trip. And this makes it so easy to share with others.

I don't want to hijack your thread. But if anyone is staying at POP AND YOUR DAYS ARE TAKEN FOR THIS SWAP please consider joining the Pay It Forward Swap at the POP. The link is in my signature.

I don't have time to read through this whole thread right now, but I may be interested for Oct 25-31.

You don't really need to read thru the whole thing. It's mainly a lot of ideas and suggestion for the bag. Those dates are open. And which resort are you staying at?

Thank you so much for adding us. I made a mistake and we are actually at Animal Lodge from Dec 6 through 12 (first night is at Pop since we get in super late). If you could change those that would be great!
Should I just keep checking in to see what needs to be added as my date gets closer?

We'll be at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge.
Is this free?

completly free. Just add things that you think the next family would like to use or things that you don't want to lug back home. Like snack size chips, bottles of water, extra hand sanatizers. And things like glow necklaces that you don't think the kids will want to have after you get back home. Also first aid things like band-aids, neosporin, sun screen, aleo vera gel.

New Update:

I grab a bunch of mickey paint cards from the H.D. Look at your name, and find your paint name. Then you can go to H.D. to check out the color. Each card has your Dis name, resort, and dates. So you if you need to pick it up from baggage holders you'll have something to recognize it by. And also on the back of the tag will be my information in case you need to get in contact with me.
(I know I'm missing a few on the top... my mistake I need to go pick up a few more cards.)

Here's what I have so far... or on it's way in the mail.

Do I have this right....people are sharing bottles of shampoo, foot lotion, SPONGES and tubes of toothpaste? Blech. Doesn't the hotel provide shampoo?

Ok, toothpaste tubes are the small traveling/trail size that I've gotten from my dentist visits, but I can't stand colgate so I don't use it at all. So if some one uses it, then they get the honors of keeping it afterwards.

Sponges are for cleaning dishes.. not bath sponges. Hotels provide free wash clothes for that.

shampoos and conditioners are small bottles, again for the original user. I know I'm not too fond of the 2 in 1 they have at the value resorts... but I love the nice stuff they use at the deluxe resort. Plus it's handy if any one is visiting the water parks as that's not something they provide there. Or if the user of the bag is driving back home and would like to take a few for the road. I know I stay at most cheapy hotels and I'm lucky for a bar of soap let alone a decent shampoo.

And I've never seen a problem with sharing lotions. You sqeeze a little out of the bottle, it's not like you use to bottle to rub it all over your feet. My aunt bought some dr scholls stuff for me for christmas one year, and I'm just not a lotion kind of person. I can't stand that slimely greasy feeling. And it's some special lotion thing for tired feet.
