The Disney Grump & Family Take on the World-Our '09 Christmas w/ the Mouse, COMPLETE

I'm making it my MISSION to save our way to Disney. I have a coin jar on the kitchen counter, I do all sorts of online programs to earn extra money or gift cards, etc. then I don't feel quite as guilty in nagging about it all.

:rotfl: This sounds like me....Kevin's parents gave me some money as part of my Christmas gift, and guess what I did with it? :rolleyes1 ---- Put it in my "Disney Stash"!!! :thumbsup2

I guess my question is, do you guys think a zero is warranted? Please feel free to be honest, you won't hurt my feelings! Thanks :goodvibes

Oh, I can be totally honest here without hurting your feelings. I think the teacher is being completely unwarranted with her "punishment." Middle schoolers routinely go brain dead and do stupid things -- you would think she would be able to give the poor boy some leeway. I doubt Justin said, "The answer to # whatever is..." To the other students (if they even noticed he said anything which is iffy since middle schoolers seem to sometimes exist in their own little worlds), they probably wondered what in the world Justin was doing. Really, c'mon! If he was actually cheating, would he have said something out loud? When students cheat, they are much more subtle. Any teacher worth her salt should know this. Anyway, I would contact the teacher. Giving Justin a zero on the entire test is much too punitive, and I am not usually one to advocate this, but if she will not listen to reason, I would contact the principal and voice your concerns.

I agree with Jackie. If he had been cheating, he sure wouldn't have talking aloud! That is why I dislike those blanket, one-size-fits-all classroom rules, like "If anyone says one word during this test, they get a zero!"---I just don't think a teacher can do this, because circumstances can be different. I'm a firm believer in consistency with my rules, , but I have to use common sense as well.

I would try to speak to her about the matter, and as Jackie said, if you can't resolve the matter, speak to the principal.

On a different , but school-related, note, I completely understand about the high school thing! The other day in the hall between classes, I saw the counselor with her clipboard, talking to some of the 8th graders, and I knew what that meant. "Time to get together to plan your high school career! " :scared1: I went home and told Kevin that I just don't think Rachel is ready for HS---She's such a ditz sometimes!

It's been a while, so I am going to comment on many posts!

*I loved the haunted mansion pic you took! I was told you couldn't take pics on the ride- but most the my indoor/dark areas pics on my camera don't turn out either.
*I like all the Santa's from the different countries in Epcot.
Great pictures of you guys from goofy- from the photopass pics.
Teppan Edo food looks delicious. I have been debating for a while going to this place, and after seeing your pics- I'm thinking of making it a for sure. Does it state similar to a Japanese Steakhouse?
*I love Morocco, its probably my favorite country in Epcot. But at night, its even more amazing.
*Day 4-
*Have you done many charac breakfasts? I felt that Crystal Palace was one of the best and I love the food.
*Great pics from the parade- I just love that parade because everything is sooo colorful!
*I love the little Mickey hat with the santa hood!! Do they make those for grownups?!!
*I have never though of taking pictures on the great movie ride! It made me want to ride it right now!! hehe

*Although, all the frozen trees and such were pretty- I don't care for this snowy weather. I am dealing with a crazy amount of snow at home and its just not me. I don't like cold weather at all. But thats for sharing the pics- it made the snowy weather look fun.. and not so cold!

*Have you went to any of the other shows like Indiana Jones? Cause I'm trying to decide on which action show like that I want to go to. I know there is 1 other.. hmm can't seem to think of it.

*How is the "design your own tee" store? Is it easy? Are the prices about the same as making them online? Just curious.

*Lastly, I love all your animal friends you are getting in your room. Last time we stayed we only recieved like 2 animals the whole time and they were both the same thing. I was kind of upset.

*Now I'm all caught up! :goodvibes

Wow, I love that castle too!! Ah, how nice it would be to have $37k to drop on that baby. Very nice pictures and update! :) The food at Nine Dragons sounds yummy.

I had pretty low expectations for Nine Dragons since I had read so many unflattering reveiws, but it was really pretty good!

I think I'll tell Don that I want that castle for Valentine's Day.......... :rotfl:

Ah, it's the money. I understand completely! It's not stupid at all, I sometimes feel the same way. I'm making it my MISSION to save our way to Disney. I have a coin jar on the kitchen counter, I do all sorts of online programs to earn extra money or gift cards, etc. then I don't feel quite as guilty in nagging about it all. However, it's not so bad for me because I know Joe wants to go just as badly! ;)

I need Joe to have a little talk with Don, convince him it's where we need to vacation! :thumbsup2 Our next vacation will be for him, he wants to go to DC. Not sure if we'll be able to swing it this year, so it will probably next. Then we want to take the boys to Hawaii. Not sure when I'll get another Disney trip - what I need is enough money to do both a Disney and a non Disney vacation, so a winning powerball ticket would be nice!

And this one made me laugh out loud! Love his expression!!!

He can be such a goofball sometimes!

Those acrobats look amazing! I'm going to mark that down as a "must do" for our future trip.

The acrobats were great!

I know a little girl that is going to be spoiled rotten before she even arrives! :goodvibes

No doubt about it!

My nephew is the same age as Justin, and I know exactly what you are going through! I am having a hard time imagining Will heading off to high school -- I swear it was only yesterday that we were headed down to Atlanta to the Olympics with him in a stroller. My SIL is having an even harder time dealing with it, and I have a sinking suspicion that I will be just as bad next year when it is Chelsea trying to figure out all this high school registration stuff.

I'm such a sap, yesterday I was looking through my old scrapbooks when he was a baby - didn't help the situation at all!

Oh, I can be totally honest here without hurting your feelings. I think the teacher is being completely unwarranted with her "punishment." Middle schoolers routinely go brain dead and do stupid things -- you would think she would be able to give the poor boy some leeway. I doubt Justin said, "The answer to # whatever is..." I would try to speak to her about the matter, and as Jackie said, if you can't resolve the matter, speak to the principal.

Thanks ladies, I just wasn't sure if it was me looking at it through overprotective mom eyes, or if she really was being a bit unreasonable. I'm going to talk to Don and I think we'll revisit the idea of meeting with her.

Oh my gosh, Justin is the same way! Case in point, the other day he got into the car after school without his good Abercrombie hoodie. I asked him where it was and he said that it had been stolen out of his locker. Did he forget to lock his locker?? No, but he said sometimes if you pull down hard enough on the lock they will just open. He put his hoodie in there before 5th hr and after school it was gone. :sad2: So, the next day he comes out to the car with said hoodie. I asked where he found it. Well, it seems as though between 5th & 6th hr he pulled it out of his locker and set it on the ground to get his books. He then went to class, leaving the hoodie on the ground :headache: Thankfully, a kid in his 3rd hr recognized it as being Justin's and he picked it up and threw it in his locker and took it to him in class the next day. See, boys can be a ditz too!

It's been a while, so I am going to comment on many posts!

*I loved the haunted mansion pic you took! I was told you couldn't take pics on the ride- but most the my indoor/dark areas pics on my camera don't turn out either.

Well, the announcement I heard said no "flash" pictures. So I took some without the flash on, most didn't turn out very well though

*I like all the Santa's from the different countries in Epcot.

They were a lot of fun to listen too!

Great pictures of you guys from goofy- from the photopass pics.
Teppan Edo food looks delicious. I have been debating for a while going to this place, and after seeing your pics- I'm thinking of making it a for sure. Does it state similar to a Japanese Steakhouse?

I've never been to a Japanese Steakhouse, so I can't compare, but Teppan Edo was really good!

*I love Morocco, its probably my favorite country in Epcot. But at night, its even more amazing.

Epcot in general is beautiful at night, but your right, Morocco is even more so!

*Day 4-
*Have you done many charac breakfasts? I felt that Crystal Palace was one of the best and I love the food.

We've done Chef Mickey's, the old Donald's Breakfastasarus @ AK and Tusker House. And, I agree, CP is the best of the ones we've gone to!

*Great pics from the parade- I just love that parade because everything is sooo colorful!

It is a fun colorful parade! It just makes you happy seeing it.

*I love the little Mickey hat with the santa hood!! Do they make those for grownups?!!

I saw a few grownups wearing them!

I've totally had it with the cold weather - I'm ready for spring!

*Have you went to any of the other shows like Indiana Jones? Cause I'm trying to decide on which action show like that I want to go to. I know there is 1 other.. hmm can't seem to think of it.

We've done the Lights Motors Action Stunt Show, it was good to watch once. The boys enjoy it more than I do, and it gets incredibly hot in those stands!

*How is the "design your own tee" store? Is it easy? Are the prices about the same as making them online? Just curious.

I honestly can't remember how much they were, I remember that they were a little pricey. I'll dig through my stuff and see if I still have the receipt. :thumbsup2 They were very easy to create.

*Lastly, I love all your animal friends you are getting in your room. Last time we stayed we only recieved like 2 animals the whole time and they were both the same thing. I was kind of upset.

Sometimes we've gotten them, sometimes we haven't - I think it really depends upon your mousekeeper and if she knows how to make them and how much time she has.

*Now I'm all caught up! :goodvibes

Comments above :thumbsup2

We were attending the 6:45 Candlelight Processional and our waiter had told us to head over the America Gardens Theater about 30 minutes early, it was now 6:00, so we started walking that way. As we got close to the theater we noticed that they were already seating. We were trying to find the end of the line - we kept walking, and walking, and walking - finally we came to the end - just as we reached Morocco!! I had a feeling not too many stand by people were getting into the theater tonight, I was so glad we had reserved seating! We were able to get relatively decent seats, and then settled in to watch an absolutely amazing show.

Edward James Olmos was our narrator and he was fantastic.

The show was so beautifully done. The choir amazing - I had to force myself not to sing along, after all - people were NOT there to hear me sing! I also found myself mesmerized by the lady signing the presentation, her motions were so lovely to watch! There were parts of the narration where Edward James Olmos appeared to be very moved by the story he was reading, it gave me goosebumps. Of course, I hear the story every year at Christmas Eve service at our own church, but there was just something about being there, the way the story was told, listening to all those angelic voices - it just really touched me, it was wonderful. :goodvibes

Don was also impressed, so I felt vindicated since I had to put up a bit of a fight to get him to agree to the dinner package. He and I both agreed that it was a perfect way to spend Christmas Eve!

After the show we went to take a potty break, and with the show just letting out, there was a bit of a line. I started talking to the lady next to me and learned that her daughter had been in the choir. She was teary eyed and beyond proud. I guess there is quite a list of applicants for it every year and not only was her daughter lucky enough to get picked for a performance, she also got Christmas Eve. Mom was on cloud nine.

Next we went in to watch the American Adventure.

IMG_2455.jpg

My kids stepped right in front of me as I was snapping this picture of the decorations.

IMG_2452.jpg

IMG_2453.jpg

This was another first for us. I think the boys might have been a little bored, Jared more so than Justin, but Don & I enjoyed it.

Now it was decision time. Should we find a spot and watch Illuminations or should we use our TT FPs and call it night. We decided against Illuminations, we just didn't want to fight that crowd on the way out. So we began our trek towards TT. We stopped in Mexico so that the boys could get some churros and I could get a margarita.

IMG_2459.jpg

Don then decided that he wanted a beer. I took this of the boys while we waited for him. I love this picture!

IMG_2458.jpg

Since Don & I had nearly full drinks we decided to let the boys ride TT twice and we would just sit out and enjoy our drinks. I also wanted to pop into Mouse Gears and pick up a couple last minute stocking stuffers.

Soon we were making our way out of the park and into the line for the bus. There were maybe a dozen or so people in line when the bus pulled up. The driver let the current passengers off and the family in the front of the line headed towards the back door of the bus. So, the rest of us walked up to the front door. Well, the bus driver saw her trying to get through the back door and closed it. He told her he wasn't allowed to let anyone load through that door. She then starts yelling that she should be allowed to get on the bus first and that we had all cut in front of her. (Keep in mind that there weren't many people there at the time - everyone was getting a seat) It was a mom, dad, grandma, toddler asleep in her stroller and an infant asleep in mom's arms. I said to Don, 'no one cut in front of her, she went to back door'. The grandma turns to me and said 'you did too cut, you went right around us'. The red head in me was about to come out at this point. And I responded with 'no, you went to the wrong door - that has nothing to do with me or any of the rest of us here'. Don whispered just to let it go. There was another family in front of us and I think we were all a little in shock that they were freaking out so much. Anyway, we waited for them to take their sleeping toddler out of the stroller, fold up the stroller and load onto the bus FIRST! Folks, this is what happens when you stay at the parks too long and allow yourself to become exhausted - you lose your ability to think clearly and be reasonable - these people were past being done.....

We stayed at the stop for awhile, waiting for the bus to fill up before we left. As we approached the resort I told Don that if the grumpy group was getting off at our stop, we better let them off first, we wouldn't want to have to witness another meltdown cause we cut them off or something. That's when he pointed out to me that they were taking up at least 6 seats when they only needed three, while other people had had to stand. Now, which was the rude group here????

Anyway, we laughed it off and enjoyed our stroll back to our room. When we got back I took pictures of some of the day's purchases.

My jacket that I had to have for the rain

Love this picture frame

IMG_2469.jpg

And my prized purchase of the day - my Dooney & Bourke Disney bag!

IMG_2470.jpg

We then headed to bed. I had to try and stay awake to stuff stockings once the boys went to sleep - being sneaky in a hotel room is not an easy thing to do! Luckily they slept hard enough that they didn't hear me fumbling around in the dark and the stockings were successfully stuffed!

Up Next: Christmas Morning and an empty Animal Kingdom!

The red head in ME would have said much more than you did! Those people were beyond rude although I guess you have to chalk it up to being at the parks too long with a little one and a cranky grandma ;) but that was overboard on taking up too many seats.

Loved the pic of the boys in front of Mexico! What a great way to end Christmas eve by watching CP :cloud9:

What a perfect way to spend your Christmas Eve! I just can't even imagine how special it was. The photos are beautiful. I'm appalled though at how rude that family was. They needed to go home and quite spoiling the magic at the Happiest Place on Earth. I adore your bag!!! :dance3:

What a great post!

Don... and I both agreed that it was a perfect way to spend Christmas Eve!

Oh, I agree completely! And Illuminations, as wonderful as it is, would seem anti-climactic after such a moving performance.

Ooooooh! I like!

I'm looking forward to your Christmas with the Animals!

Kathy

What a beautiful and moving way to spend your Christmas Eve!!! I bet it was an unforgettable experience!

The picture of the boys in Mexico is precious!

What a rude family!!! Some people have no manners or common sense apparently!

Love all the purchases, but especially that D & B purse -- too cute!

CP on Christmas Eve sounds like the perfect way to spend the evening!

I love the picture of your boys in front of the Mexico pavillion. That would make a great Christmas card! All your purchases are great...love that first ornament too! AND especially that DB!

His grade went from a 95 to an 81 with that one zero and being that it is an AP class, he's going to have a very hard time getting that grade back up. I wanted to make an appointment to discuss it with his teacher, but Don says no. Justin messed up, he's going to have to live with it. I guess my question is, do you guys think a zero is warranted? Please feel free to be honest, you won't hurt my feelings! Thanks
My son is in an Advanced placement US History class at his high school and his class will give him college credit if he passes the end of year test. He fights for his grade everyday. The teacher is a homework deamon! As much work as kids have to put into the class I seriously don't think that a meeting would hurt the problem. Heck it could even help.

Love, love, love that purse!!!
The Christmas story gets me teary eyed every year at church. Edward is such a great speaker also - I'm sure I could cry too.

On your home matters, congratulations about your soon to be niece!!! Disney has GREAT stuff for babies! :goodvibes
Also, I would DEFINITELY go talk to your son's teacher. That is absolutely not fair. I can sort of see why she wanted to make a statement in front of the class-- that talking during quizzes won't be tolerated. However, to keep him at a zero is ridiculous. Especially if he had a 95 before-- he is clearly a smart, hardworking kid. I'd start at a phone call, and if she stands her ground, make a meeting with the principal.
I loved your latest update-- what a wonderful, perfect Christmas Eve. We love Edward James Olmos!

What a wonderful update!!!

CP sounded like the PERFECT way to spend Christmas Eve..........we've seen and enjoyed the show 3 times now........so good! Glad you guys enjoyed it! :thumbsup2

LOVE the picture of your boys in front of Mexico......very nice! :goodvibes

Your purse is too cute! :)

Great picture of your boys in Mexico! The lighting is so nice

The purse is WAY cute!

Looks like a great way to spends Christmas Eve except for crazy rude family

GREAT UPDATE! Love it! I have been researching the Candlelight Processional ALL DAY and I am so happy you updated about it :goodvibes

It looks just great. I KNOW I will cry. I cry at pretty much anything  So, I know that beautiful Christmas music will do me in.

How great is it that your kids can ride together!?? Can't wait for mine to be old enough to do so!

UGH I totally agree about the rude family. Sorry that happened to you!

LOVE all of your purchases. Your ornaments are great and your purse is to die for!!! Can't wait to hear about Christmas Day at AK:lovestruc

I've always wondered if it would be weird to be away from home on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day but your TR makes me think it was a wonderful way to spend the holiday. I got my parents a gift certificate for the CP a few years ago when they were there while it was being performed and they couldn't stop talking about it. I absolutely plan to see it in person one day myself! :)

Love all your purchases too, especially your new bag. DD is another place we won't miss. Love the shopping and the eating opportunities there!

Good luck with your son's teacher. Confrontation can be difficult but is sometimes necessary (as with the rude family on the bus!)

Love your new D&B bag!

I would try talking to the teacher first, it's always a good idea to go that route before going to the principal. Hopefully she will be reasonable!

Wow!! I just got all teary-eyed reading your update!! The CP sounds beautiful! I cannot wait to see this show! And what a PERFECT way to spend Christmas Eve hearing about the reason we celebrate Christmas--our Savior who came to Earth to save the world! It gives me chill bumps just thinking about it!! :goodvibes

I just LOVE the pic of your boys in Mexico!! I especially like the raincoat, ornaments, frame, and purse--GREAT choices!! :thumbsup2

I'm anxious to hear about Christmas Day!!

Congratulations on the niece!!! That is very exciting!!! There are so many sweet little girl things at WDW, I bet you'll have a ball shopping!

I can't give much advice on the school situation, being I have a 2 year old and am not a teacher - but it does seem a bit extreme for a mistake. And a 95 to an 81 with just that one quiz?!?! :faint: Perhaps the teacher can take that one question off his quiz - he automatically gets docked for it, or something more reasonable. I sure hope it works out!

We loved the CP too (someday I'll get that far in my TR ;)). It was such a moving show!

Great pic of your boys in front of Mexico!

Those bus people....:sad2: First, if you have a stroller and aren't going to fold it up PRIOR to the bus arriving, step aside and fold it, don't make everyone wait behind you! Ugh. Sometimes one of us will board with Henry while the other stays behind and folds the stroller. We never, ever make people wait for us. Seriously. And if there are only a few people in line, what difference does it make who loads first?!?! Okay, rant over...

My DSIL bought that same jacket, but in black. I love how it's Mickey, but not IN YOUR FACE Mickey....if that makes sense. And the bag...adorable!!!!! I think I like it even better than the white one!

Looking forward to Christmas morning! :hyper:

Your D&B bag is so much fun! i would enjoy having that! ;) How did you know it was there?
Have you talked to the teacher yet? I agree with everyone, it was a bit extreme to give him a 0. I think some grace should be given here.
I bet it was nice to sit with your drinks while the boys rode TT. Sometimes it's just nice to sit. :goodvibes
Now that rude family... wow, you never quite know what sets a person over the edge.... sometimes it is a mystery :confused3
Can't wait to see what happens when the boys see their stockings in the morning! :woohoo:
