I didn't post a "before" pic of what the sub-sub floor looked like under the toilet. This was covered up with plywood.

It's all better now.

Gotta love old houses.

…we have an enthusiastic thumbs up from the first serving to my older son! 👍

Glad it turned out well for you, @4077.

It makes me happy that, at last check, 84 downloads of the recipe have occurred meaning 84 families like yourselves can go back whenever they want to that buttery goodness that is the Trails End Bread Pudding.

Brings a tear to my eye ... :sad1:

After looking at all the productive handymen getting home tasks underway and nearing completion, I was shamed into attempting the same. I'm not quite the handyman type but I am rescreening my front porch and painting the trim. The previous owner had dogs that pushed the lower screens out and tore small holes in them in a few places and I was finally tired of looking at them.

Going back with same materials and colors just in new condition. No pics but I basically pull off the trim, pull out the old brads and staples, cut the screen, and then reapply it. DW is helping by painting the trim pieces, posts, door, and the like.

Biggest problem so far has been finding a quarter-inch spline for the wooden door screens (which is big for spline). But Amazon is my friend.

Hope to get most of the work done tomorrow and Friday (started Monday) which will leave only reattaching the trim to cover the screen edges and then the door when the spline arrives.

Ed

PS - will you Mr.-Fix-Its please take a few weeks off because ya'll are wearing me out! 🥱

@garneska Great news on the slide and Taxes!!

@Teamubr Well I was recovering this week, peak of the cold was about thursday/friday. I avoided going outside till Sunday and it was nearly 60 which made it easier.

@bama_ed Hey we all have our skills, some things I tackle myself, many others I hire others. Bet the screend porch will look great with a fresh coat and screens.

So far I have replaced the plastic check valve and threaded fittings with brass, the WH inlet is now brass too. I left the flexible hose, moving to hard like pex would have been a project in itself.

Also changed over the city water hookup to brass as the plastic one is known to fail and mine was starting to strip the plastic threads. This took a small amount of granding to replace the original in the nautilis station. But a worthy upgrade if you ask me.

What is left to do is install the RV whisper water leak detectors. And pressure/leak test all my work. The temps are not really cooperating for me right now. It is a bit frustrating that now that I want and need to dewinterize we are seeing 20s again for lows. That said, I will likely do the testing on Saturday and run the heat as needed when things get cold to avoid any issues.

In the mean time, I have gotten my internet 2.0 setup running nice and stable. Speeds look greatat home, so only expect them to do as well on the road. Only item left is to decide on an rooftop antenna. Right now my plan is to mount it ontop of the winegard 360 rather then drill a hole in the roof. My 360 is not the 360+ with a 2x2 mimo antenna built in. I figure adding a 4x4 on top of it and sealing it up really well will do great for me.

The router will be hard wired into the 12v system on a max 5A capable power conditioner to ensure the router gets only 12v. I was going to go PD, but all the PD hard wires maxed out at about 2.5A and these newer 5G modems need up to 4A availible to them.

Just 1 week to drivers school, so antenna wont get installed, yet the rest of the work and my new center console setup for the truck will be done. That is also a planned event for this weekend to install the new systema and set it all up....more photos to come.

Made some more progress on the bathroom. It is looking like a real room again. Drywall is up. Shower pan is all set and the walls and floors are sealed up ready for tile. Donna really wants the toilet back in, but I may tape the drywall tomorrow and wait to do floor tile.

First coat of tape on the drywall and tile under the toilet. Apparently we grabbed 2 sheets of slightly darker floor tile. (Or it was mixed in and we didn't catch it) We bought the floor tile over 6 months ago, so no returning it. Under the toilet it goes so nobody will notice.

And just like that, the chassis batteries croaked. Two new ones and it fired right up. I can't complain, the old ones were 6 years old.

And I have a new neighbor at the storage lot. An old Bluebird schoolie. Can't tell too much through the windows, but it looks cool.

Ok, so April 1st I put in my papers for a retirement date of August 1st. Will be a whopping 26 years on the job. Not ideal, but it is for the best. I am getting out hopefully without a decrease in pay. We were told that we would get a roughly 2.5 percent pay increase when the settle the contract, but a 5 percent decrease for a stipend they will out source. If I stayed, every month would be a less money. And I would need to stay 3 years to make more then I do now. So, I am gone. Ed, I am right there with you now. So, hope its working out for you and you are staying busy with the trains etc. .....

Spencer,

I hope you find a future path that you want. Of course we would love to have you and the family down south if you find an opportunity down this way. Read the tea leaves and make your best decision. You sound too young to fully retire but something to cover expenses and defer pensions might be a plan. But God Bless You and good luck with your future plans.

I have a relative coming to visit this weekend who is a trains fan and I was planning to pull out all the loco's for an impression. Possibly will be able to post pix.

ED

PS - big boy trainz. have about a dozen locos (or so - what DW thinks). Will post some pix this weekend maybe.

PPS - 26 years of fireman life, being willing to run into burning buildings and try to save folks like me, is like 50 years in office work terms. I have no problem with firemen and policemen earning pensions on fewer years than others. This ain't life in the DMV office .... You've earned the right to your benefits. It's kinda like military folks who finish 25 years, secure their retirement benefits, and then get a "civilian" job. One guy in my weekly prayer group is retired Air Force and closing in on year 10 at my State Univ (10 yr eligible for pension/bennies/retirement then although now it's 25 yrs as fyi). Other southern states still hold 10 yrs.

RV is officially dewinterized! The good news is my work did not leak. I kept a close eye on all the new connections and happy to report, not drips. The system is currently full and at pressure while I sanitize the water system. This evening I will empty out the sanitizing chlorinated water and refill with fresh water.

The new internet router is now in the RV. I am planning on a omni rooftop antenna, I just need to pick which one and then install it. I am currently considering installing it on the top of the winegaurd 360 rather then drilling another hole in the roof. I do plan on talking to somewhere like mobile must haves and figure out what I am going to do.

The router lives in the front living room area, tucked away nicely. Easy access for adding an antenna later.

The router is tied into the 12v system as an always on item. It draws about 1amp under load but I think it will be fine since we are mostly plugged in.

First use is this weekend just a hope away at summit point raceway. So it will be nice to test out everything again and go from there.

What did you go with for the 12v connection? I see so many things like that online that seem to range from snake oil to fire hazard.

I'd like to get some more 12v plugs around the rig to charge all of the devices everywhere and try to save the losses to invert just to convert it back to DC

You guys have been busy. Tuesday my Cyclone 4000 sold. I started last Thursday moving into a 2 bedroom duplex in Bastrop.
jbrister, Friday thru Sunday my son his wife & the grandkids moved all my stuff out of the RV to the duplex. Plus things I have in a surge bldg. We are still tired. So we feel your pain! But i am sure your Mom appreciated the help & I hope happy in her new home. All I have left to do is hang the curtains & pictures. This was my 1st large decision I had to make since Arnold (grumpy aggie) went to his heavenly home in Sept 20, 2020. It was bitter & sweet. I don't have to worry too much when the storms happen. If necessary, me & the fur babies will jump in the shower for safety.
