Ophie & TZM - was this past weekend your big nite at Cirque and dinner at Jiko?! How was it? How did Jiko compare to Boma? Did you stay at AKV this trip?! I can't wait to stay there next summer! Since we're out of points I orig. had booked a "pool view" room in the hotel part as there were no cash ressies avail. in the DVC units. Then I kept calling DVC and finally got a "Value Studio" which is saving us about $177. I really would just like to get DH talked into buying like about 55 points there tho - that would be enough to cover our 3 n. next summer in a Value or STD. studio. Oh well, still working on the "terms"! Guess I'll just keep shoving money into the old sock drawer for now!

We skipped Cirque because the rest of our group bailed. Jiko was P H E N O M E N A L ! ! ! !

Jiko is incomparably superior to Boma. The service was great the food was amazing! We didn't stay @ AKV. We're waiting until the new section opens.

That's awesome! I didn't think people went there with kids so we've never gone 'cuz of always having DS with us....maybe one day....I'm sure it's such a different atmosphere - I just assumed the food would be good too!

There were people with kids there. You should totally go. Just know that it has a business casual dress code.

We took our kids to both Jiko and Boma in 2004. I can't remember which is the buffett and which is the restaurant. The buffet had a lot if kids. I remember the restaurant had kids in it but it was pretty quiet - and there wasn't much on the menu that my kids liked. but, again that was years ago and menus change.

Boma is the buffet. But Jiko does have a kids menu. Is your DS willing to try things or is he a nuggets-only kid?

We peeked inside Jiko when we stayed there & it seemed so-o quiet. I couldn't imagine taking a kid in there to dinner. We've always loved the food at Boma tho so we've just eaten there instead....I'm still nervous about the idea of taking him to a "nice" restaurant like Jiko!!

Our DS will try a lot of things but is still your basic cheese pizza / mac & cheese kind of kid if he gets a choice about it (one reason we didn't get the dining plan). He prefers ravioli to spaghetti (unless there's meatballs) and he likes pesto sauce over traditional red sauce. He will choose a hot dog over chix nuggets. Actually, he NEVER ordered nuggets at McDonalds - and he orders apple dippers not fries. His choice. He recently started ordering the fish fillet sandwiches there instead of Happy Meals. He won't PICK crabs but he likes crab...and swordfish....and quesadillas.... Kids are funny eaters. I think for a kid our DS eats a good variety of stuff - he DOESN'T like lettuce (won't eat "salad" on his burgers) nor does he like pickles (but he likes relish - so I'm not telling him that relish is ground up pickles )


Had to go back to the eye place tonite...DS popped a lens out of his glasses...again. I can see it now that we will be going there for repairs every other month!

Jiko Menu & Kids Menu

We had the Taste of Africa to start w/ the house Pinot Noir. TZM had the lamb shank for dinner with the paired Shiraz and I had the Pork Tenderloin with a Pinotage. The dessert we had isn't on the linked menu. It seemed like a seasonal selection. It was pumpkin roll with cinnamon ice cream.

There were definitely kids around though. Don't think you can't go just because you have kids. My friend has a 5yo & a 3yo and they go to Jiko whenever they can. It's too good to miss.

Hello. Busy, busy, busy day. (Insert heavy sigh here.) Cold now (26 this AM when I got up - brrrrrr)!!! We need to pick the final harvest off of our "found" tomato plant here at work! Turned out to be grape tomatoes......it's been LOADED and from where it's located has been pretty protected - UNTIL now......
