I need some help here. We're 44 days out from leaving for POP in May. I'm going over all the new posts on our great and rapidly growing dis-dads board and I'm starting to salivate. I'm almost drooling all over my keyboard. I don't know who is worse...me or my kids.

What you have is a case of Disneyitis and there is no cure for it. Just be careful because it is usually followed by a case of the Post Disney Blues. Oh yeah, your a DIS Dad so you probaly have it worse than the kids do!:lmao:
To all of the new DIS Dad's, welcome to the club. There are a bunch of great Dad's here! :thumbsup2

40, I suggest a DVC for a midlife crisis, the sports car thing doesn't last!!!
When I blew out the birthday candle I wished for another Disney Trip. A DVC membership will do though. BTW, those of you that have the DVC membership are you satisfied with it?

Yea we are very satisfies with it. the only complaint I have about it is the number of point you have to use when you go on a Disney Cruise, which I do not understand

My DW and I became DVC members in March 2002, but sadly we had to sell our DVC to help my mom move and get settled in Florida a few years ago after my step-dad became violent and she needed to get away ASAP. We are hoping to get back into DVC through a resale before I retire.

Well dads, I need to get ready for work, have a magical day dads!!!

I can tell you this about DVC, if you decide to buy resale there are only a few companies you should go through so be careful. The ones that are good however, are very good at what they do. Also, be ready for a wait and a half, ROFR is enough to drive you nuts, once you get through that there is estoppel and then just waiting to close. I bought in mid February it took three weeks for Disney to make up it's mind on ROFR and have been sitting around waiting to close, the date they have set is April 18th. Ironically the same day we leave for WDW, I guess it's a sign that it was just meant to be. Anyone that is maybe thinking about buying DVC resale, I'll be more than happy to help out any way I can as it's something I'm going through right now.

Oh exalted leader...my DVC membership is not quite yet started...we purchased resale and await Disney's accounting department putting all of their collective pencils to paper. DW and I did the tour on the last trip (Feb) and immediately put the wheels in motion.

We are a family of five and very, very soon will need the room of a 1 or 2 BR unit. That was one reason. Another reason is we are beginning to slow down our "pedal to the metal" approach with the parks. After four straight years of WDW we no longer need to spend morning to nite in the parks. Still try like hell, though!! Third, we all love WDW and this allows us to continue to spend time here in different resorts, with or w/o friends and family, hopefully for a long time. It also opens up our travel schedule to enjoy some of the many activities throughout the year rather than sticking with our Jan/Feb annual trip.

I have become addicted and have enjoyed getting involved in DVC and the DISboards. I never would have imagined. But I can imagine DVC absolutely being the right choice for us. After my first trip "home" I'll likely be able to confirm that for you! :thumbsup2

The Best money I have ever spent.

This past weekend trip just made it more of a great decision . I use to love OC Md and the boardwalk but after just 3 days there i found there was just nothing to do.

I wish I would have known earlier DW wanted to get away I could have booked a WDW or even a quick DL trip for the same amount of money we ended up spending.

We haven't used it yet - we just joined in Feb - after many years of debate and trips anyway. We are a family of 5, and are DEFINITELY looking forward to the extra space a 1 BR provides. As a family we have gone to WDW annually since 03 - twice in 05, with several mini-trips along the way. I took both of my sons on separate F/S weekends in 04 and 05. We honeymooned at the Grand Flo, and then back on a couple of occasions before the family trips began + several solo visits while in FL on business.

Similar yet different than what others have said about DVC in other threads and on the DVC DVD - it's not that I wished we'd known sooner - it's I wish we been able to join sooner. I first started inquiring about DVC shortly after our honeymoon - but finances just didn't allow. A couple of trips have been on points so we stayed at the Hotel Plaza or off-site. 1 trip we won in a contest, and the rest were cash. Regardless of how we got there - we did, and as the kids have grown, their own desire to return has grown. We're excited about how we're going to use the membership. :) We took the tour for the first time last Sep as a family while at POR (nice, but CRAMPED!), but DW wasn't 100% sold just yet. I was back at WDW on a business trip in Jan (conference there, and of course I took some time for myself in the parks, etc), and took it again then. By that time DW was sold and we knew we were ready. We bought directly from Disney and got the Developer Pts. incentive. Looked at resales, but we wanted AKV - so getting the extra points made sense for us. Plus it allowed us to have enough points to get a 15 yr anniversary trip planned for next March in addition to next year's vacation!

My biggest wish was that we had been able to get more points from the get-go!!! Addonitis has already struck. But, we're waiting for DL's GCV before we add more points. My DW, oldest DS and I are native CA 'ians and have lots of fam & friends out there, + my employer is based in So. Cal - so we get out there regularly too. Having home resort on both coasts makes sense for us.

Dw and I were "Welcomed Home" in '04. We love it, it makes us feel like we need to go once or twice a year, not just that we want to go. With the newly arrived DS2, we now are already feeling the addonitis. We just need to wait a little bit until we can afford it, that will make it easier to get a 1 BR unit each trip instead of studios.

All though we have not had a chance to use our membership just yet, we are anxiously awaiting our first WELCOME HOME in Oct. 08.
Prior to purchasing I researched this from top to bottom and for our family it was a no brainer.
Take some time to make sure it is right for your travel needs and financial setting. Let's face it this thing is not cheap. The one thing that I insisted on was that a DVC membership would not change our day to day lifestyle.
The other thing that really helped us, was that we bought into AKV and a one bedroom sleeps 5. This was good fit for our family size.
Finially the inflation proof points chart. 160 points today will get you the same thing in 45 years. There are not to many things that you can say that about. I hope this helps!

While I was home for lunch, I got an e-mail from the timeshare company I used to sell my DVC a couple of years ago. There was a resale that caught my eye and I just placed an offer on the resale that is located at Old Key West. :woohoo: Wish me luck!!! :wizard:
