This morning as a ran, I thought about how unusual this community is online. Sure we all really enjoy Disney, but Disney is a pretty magical place so that is not all that strange. What's really unusual is the way that this particular community reacts to each other. While the veil of anonymity which the internet gives people usually enables people to lash out and react in ways that they never would in real life, the guys on this board have managed to penetrate that veil. Our conversations are based in common ground and fundamentally proceed from a point of trying to understand the other person. I feel very blessed to be a part of this group of guys.

It this common ground that makes the idea of a DDC meetup so interesting. It would be great to continue to forge the relationships we are building here online IRL. One of the main points of common ground that we all have is "love for our family". Since we all seem to share that would it make sense to arrange this in such a way that we could bring our families with us on a trip like that. It seems like there would be an opportunity for the spouses and kids to get together on that trip. If we structured a day and a half of "Dad only events" we would have plenty of time for whole family meetups if people scheduled full family trips around the Dad meetup. It's just a thought though, feel free to respond as though I just said "I really like to bring last years refillable mug to refill as I'm using the pool at Poly when I'm staying at POP.

I don't know how many times I've looked at Lines on my phone today. Looks like a good day to be in MK so far! Have fun!

So, you were the jinx. Anyone been at MK when it hit park capacity? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I now can say that I have. As a said, it started out a wonderful day. We ate at CRT.

Then, we walked over to Peter Pan ride with no wait and picked up a FP before riding it the first time. I received these as well ...

So, 2 FP for one. A FP for Peter Pan and a FP for Philharmagic. I truly thought this was going to be a terrific day. Than, after the Rapunzel line, it just kept getting worse. The park hit capacity. MK was short staffed. CMs looked frazzled. Pecos Bill ran out of food. A bus driver was at MK and was being called into work. He was negotiating his rate of pay and a new uniform, since his was at home. An hour was added to MK and a second parade. Main Street was filled with people, from entrance to castle by park's end. We managed to grab a seat for the Main Street Dream parade and caught electrical parade over at the entrance of Liberty Square. It was fun, but trying to exit MK thru the hoard of people was a nightmare. We left and walked back to BLT for Wishes.

The speculation was that since Sunday's rain was so bad, all the touring groups re-routed their people to MK on Wed, the only other non-early park closing day. Plus, the Disney hating friend and others on FB were reporting it was raining on the coast(s) of FL, so there may have been some extras there. Next year, we will do 2 MNSSHP tickets and just avoid MK on a regular day.

I thought about adding a Park Hopper and going elsewhere, but smartly, I had been accumulating FPs all day. As we would ride earlier in AM, I would pick up FP and hoard them for later in the day. So, we had FPs for Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Peter Pan, Jungle Cruise. It was a lot of walking, but no line standing.

We did a late night swim, hot tub, and a few beers to escape the trauma. We all slept in to 8:30 AM. Today is a non-park day. We have Spirit of Aloha Dinner at Poly tonight.

I thought you were the boss??????? :lmao:

I am the boss of my family ........ when no one else is home.

I agree wholeheartedly. It would really be difficult to have a Dad's club without them. And, I like the idea about Dad only events and family events.

BTW, I saw last year's mugs over here at BLT. Apparently, the things have not been added to the drink machines here. Or, they have been added and a family of 10 is purchasing 1 mug and refilling all their old mugs with that one. :thumbsup2

Sounds like you managed to make it a good day. Hurray for fastpass hoarding and having a strategy.

Randall... we need to try to try and meet up in March. We are staying at POR and planning DHS on 3/29 and AK 3/30.
this would be a great meet at AK but do i have to pre warn the animal keepers to hide the Bacon ( the little piggies ) :lmao:

I like options. I think that the one I submitted (a variation of the one down there in my sig) may be one of the few that he has to work with, and I also agree with Aaron that it’s not bad, but not so good as to deserve to be chosen outright. I like your idea much better then what I offered up. We just need to find a way to put it together. :thumbsup2

Do you have a link to the one that you submitted. Was it on the disdad blue background? I like the use of silhouettes.

Bummer! Hope he gets better soon.
But not too soon. Chicks dig casts. :thumbsup2

When's your next trip? Do you have one in the works?
I will say the short version if there is one . Trying for a solo and i mean solo trip for next October I love Holloween in disney hoping if not i might try for my solo after the new year like feb 2013 , the next family trip we are going to do looks like late Aug / beging of sept for a Land /sea trip

‘Mornig all…

Uggggg…
Basketball will be a problem, but is there such a thing as an all-weather cast that might make it possible for the boy to still play some?

You are generous to a fault.

Naaaaa…
We won’t throw you out, but the next time your down there we may need to send in a strike team to ensure that these two oversights get corrected.

Maybe we could talk Fed into volunteering to head up the insertion team.
This Ex- Marine is ready hope you team is ready to go to hell and come back smiling with Dole whip in hand :lmao:

Ryan, I agree with your point. I realize that some dads won't be able to do a family vacation. I would like to plan a partial trip to keep the costs down. Spend a couple of days with the Dads and then a couple as a family.

I also think we should get the families that can attend together. IMHP I think it would only enhance the overall experience.

Just booked a room at All-Stars Music. Driving up to see Halloween Horror at Universal with DD and one of her friends. May hit WDW on Saturday. Totally by the seat of our pants trip. Too much to do before then but I refuse to stress about it.
That is awesome!:thumbsup2 Have a great time!

So, you were the jinx.
Oops... sorry. I got busy and stopped looking after mid morning. Maybe I should have left the app open on my phone. :confused3

Ouch...Hate to hear that, Hope he heals well and has a complete recovery.

That's a bummer. Sorry for your son.

Uggggg…
Basketball will be a problem, but is there such a thing as an all-weather cast that might make it possible for the boy to still play some?

Sorry to hear... but now he can tell everybody about how he broke his arm playing football and they had to drag him off the field.:thumbsup2

Thanks all. So far the morning has been good, no pain and his appetite hasn't been harmed. :rotfl2:

All weather cast isn't worth it for the skill level he is playing at and they only have two games left in a season where they haven't won a game.

I'm sure there are a couple of girls that will make him some new bracelets that they gave him and were cut off to put on the cast.

I did two Macs last night, an iPad, and an iPhone - still have an iPad to go!

Question Aaron - don't know if you know the answer to this....

My wife and I share an apple id for purchases for the app/itunes store. But I don't think we want to share that same ID for iCloud or else our Calendars and Mail will co-mingle. Would it be best for us to set up another Apple ID to strictly use for iCloud? Is it possible to use a separate apple id for the store on your device and then another one for iCloud?

We do the same thing, and there are two approaches you can use.

1. Keep the same AppleID for the App Store, and just create new AppleIDs for iCloud, using different Email addresses.
2. If you have a MobileMe family account, theoretically you can use the MobileMe accounts as your AppleIDs. I say theoretically because many MobileMe accounts are sort of stuck in limbo right now. They're queued up for transition to iCloud, but iCloud is so swamped right now that it could be a while.

I'm currently stuck in situation #2 above, and am seriously considering just setting up new AppleIDs instead of waiting for the transition. Two devices cannot share the same iCloud account - it wouldn't work even if you wanted it to. Each iCloud account will only connect with "its" device.

I've been thinking about the DDC Convention and I have some questions for the DVC DISDads among us.

Would you be using your points for yourselves? Would you be willing to open your home at a reduce fee, or free to defray the cost to other DISDads who may otherwise not be able to go?

AP holders, if you have AP's for your families and they are not going, would you share those AP's? Again, at a reduce fee, or free.

Thank you in advance for your answers. :)

That is just peanut butter and beverly stupid. Worst post I have ever seen. Oops, sorry, thought this was another board.

Well said my friend. Even though we have not met nor have I met any other Dis Dads, I consider you all my friends. We have celebrated triumphs, morned losses and provided encouragement when things are not going well. A unique group.

I also agree with your thoughts on the meet. Depending on the time of year, I will probably be "stag" because DD will be away studying at college (not partying of course). I would like to meet your significant others if nothing else to ask how they put up with you knuckle heads (though it may be dangerous to let them all get together). Would also love to meet the kids to put faces and personalities to the stories. A hybrid meet would be the best of both worlds. Family time, family group time and dad only time.

Wow! Sounds like a surprise to both you and the cast members. You did us proud the way you did so well navigating the park. Hope the crowds empty out for the rest of the stay.

Thanks all. So far the morning has been good, no pain and his appetite hasn't been harmed. :rotfl2:

Glad that he is feeling OK. Make sure he plays the cast up to the ladies.

I am pretty sure you can't share APs.

Really like your idea on sharing a DVC room. My contribution will be dependent on if I have any points left over after hopefully booking Aluani for next summer. We could pool resources to get a GV that serves as the meet hub and a place for solo dads to stay. Of course Barry would have to sleep out on the balcony (sorry Barry couldn't resist).

This has to happen. It would be a great time. We need a point person and since David started the discussion, I nominate him.

On a less happy note, I can't find our d*** passes for Disney. If I can't find or replace them we will just go to HHN and skip WDW on Saturday. Fed, can you use you investigative skills to find them? Off to pick up the child and get HHN tickets.

APs are non-transferrable, and are tied to their owners by their thumbprint hash value.

If I had extra points to use in that year, I would be all for pooling them to get a GV, or getting a room for a bunch of guys, though we don't have a ton of points so more than likely those will be used up and I'll be paying for a room...

As mentioned above, we can't share our AP's, but I'm happy to try and smuggle someone in my backpack (as long as they don't mind being smuggled along with a few lbs of bacon). ;)

Well my son's football season came to a crashing halt tonight. We just got back from the hospital with a cast on a broken arm. Happened at the end of practice when they were doing a sumo drill and when he and the other kid fell, he took a helmet to the forearm.

6 weeks in a cast; puts a damper on basketball season too.

Sorry to hear that! Hope it heals well!

I think it hit capacity when I was there on NYE this past year. If it didn't, it sure must have been close! :confused3 Glad you were able to make the best of it!

If I was going alone, and using my points, I'd be open to having other Dads stay with me. If coming with family, then our room would be full.

If not going, and I have extra points, I might be able to convince DW to let me donate them to the cause. That would all depend on how things end up being scheduled on the DDC side, as well as what our personal family plans are for our points.
