Mine are signed by the mouse himself so they're still good.

SOMEWHERE in my various boxes of Disney memorabilia, I have an original 1987 Disney Dollar - the year they were first introduced. They were first available May 5, 1987, with a newer series introduced on Sep. 9, 1987 at DL, and then later on Oct. 2, 1987 at WDW. I believe I have a few other years as well, when newer images & denominations were introduced too, but I can't remember.

One of these days I need to go through and start doing some sort of an inventory of those boxes... I have no clue anymore of what's in some of them.

:thumbsup2

Were you a Scout as a youth? An Eagle?

I wasn't a Boy Scout, just a Cub Scout. But I'm having a ball as an adult Scouter! We have an awesome Troop that my sons are involved with. My eldest is a Life, working on putting together plans for his Eagle project, and my younger son is 1st Class working on Star.

Yep - started out as a Tiger Cub at age 6. Worked up to Boy Scouts and bowed out after attaining the Star Rank at age 16.

My interest in girls got in the way... :cool1:

But I was a member of Order of the Arrow - and completed a high adventure trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in 1991. Our trek was supposed to be a 75 mile trek in 12 days and it ended up being 125 with detours due to closed trails!

Awesome memories as a Scout and I like to think it helped to shape me into the man I am today...:sad1: :thumbsup2

did you ever eat something, than look at the expiration date on the jar???? i just ate mayo that expired 6 months ago!:lmao: cant wait to see the result of this one.:lmao:

Wasn't someone wishing for smell-o-vision earlier?

My son is 15, and we keep encouraging him to get it done... before something similar happens to him. But we've also given him the "incentive" that he won't be getting his driver's license until he achieves Eagle.

NOW I remember... I remembered posting about hoping to go to Philmont next summer, and someone said they'd had a 125 vs. 75 mile trek... but sadly couldn't remember who it was! Phew... thanks for posting that again, I thought I was losing my mind.

With that too... my eldest got notice last week of being hired for his first summer job. He'll be working at Summer Camp this year - which means he'll pretty much be gone the entire summer, with a pre-camp weekend in May as well. He's pretty stoked about it - and in his young world, thinks the $700 he'll earn is terrific. Of course in the real world, that wouldn't support anything... but hey, he's 15, and suddenly thinks he's on top of the world! He'll be a Counselor-in-Training (roving grunt), working at whichever stations or classes they need him at most. We're proud of him, but torn about him being gone at the same time. He's already talking about NEXT summer (2012) when he can be a full-fledged Counselor and teach different classes... :sad2: Both DW and I were talking the other night about how when they're young you celebrate all of those "first" milestones... but when they get older, you never quite know which will be the "last" time for something. Already this trip last week feels like it might have been the "last" full-family trip - even though it won't be - it sure smells like it. He wants to go to Hawaii with us in 2013... but even then he'll be 17. We've begun talking about some Florida trips without him :sad1: ... and #2 won't be too far behind. He wants to start working at camp as soon as he's old enough. SIGH.

Nice "incentive"! :rotfl2:

It's hard to remember what everyone has said on here...no worries. I have a hard enough time just trying to remember everyone's first name! :lmao:

I remember spending my week at summer camp each year...loved it. And I do remember envying those scouts that were able to stay there all summer. I'm sure he'll have lots of fun. Although he may find, after being there a week or two, that he misses his family! Especially when he's sleeping on a cot (if he's lucky) and eating all the wonderful dining hall food! :rotfl2:

I'm actually quite envious of him... I'd love to be able to go off and spend a bunch of weeks in the woods.

I'm fairly confident you're right that he will see that he misses us - especially with 10 weeks of Dining Hall food! As for the sleeping - the staff actually fairly decent dorm-style accomodations, with A/C even. So they treat the kids pretty well. It's the laundry that he'll suddenly be responsibile for mid-week that has my DW concerned. He'll only have 3 Class A and 4 Class B uniform sets - and the staff is expected to have clean clothes each day... and the Class A has to be worn every night at dinner... so he's going to some fun time management stuff to learn pretty quickly. They only have 3 washers and 3 dryers available for the entire staff... but it'll be good for him.

Remember guys, Mother's Day is less than a month away. Make sure your kids do something nice for the most important girl in their lives. I decided to do a Shutterfly photo book for my DW with pictures from every trip to WDW that we've done. I'm going through and picking out pictures to use. I'm only on our 3rd trip and I've got enough to fill 3 books! :scared1: Looks like I've got to start whittling it down a little bit.

That sounds way better than a treadmill! Thanks! :thumbsup2

Wow - Dorm style accommodations and A/C?? Wow! Our Scout camp had canvas wall tents with cots and, if you were lucky, a raised pallet floor!

Well, if anything, it will be a learning experience for him. Lots of lessons to learn from it, for sure! :thumbsup2

Don't get me wrong - those accomodations are only for the staff...

all of the Scouts attending camp get the platform, A-frame canvas tents, complete with metal cot and 3" thick mattress.

Yeah - our staff had those same canvas wall tents all summer. The only commodity that they received was electricity to power a fan or a radio.

He could really knock out a lot of merit badges if he gets enough time to!
