Yep, I'm glad that a deal got done and that I'm not going to be on furlough.
On the other hand, this brinksmanship crap is ridiculous. My entire office was scrambling like crazy today, preparing to deal with a shutdown. Now we show up on Monday to "business as usual" (except there may not be money in the being-revised-on-the-fly budget to follow through on what we've been working on for the first half of the year).

It's really tempting to just take a day of leave on Monday.

Congrats Aaron. Wouldn't be interesting if budget deadlines and tax day happened the day before election day :confused3

Ownage!

Happy Saturday morning! The weekend has arrived. And the only honey-dos for today are changing the air filters in the house. Should be a nice, relaxing weekend. We are going to take the kids to see Hop today, then it's double-header time - Rangers vs. Orioles.

Hope you all have a great day!

Sounds like you have a great day planned John! Think of me while I'm stuck here at work till 4pm. :headache:

Okay, it takes a long time to read from page 96 to 117. Sorry for repeating any topics.
Question to those of you that have flown Southwest. And if anyone has any specific experience flying out of Chicago Midway, I'd love to hear any tips, tricks or gotchas that that I should be on the look out for. Thanks!
Someone else beat me to this, so my advice is lost.

I was kinda mad a Riddley in Vol 3...

He made one of my favorite characters a villan.

:maleficen:maleficen:stitch::maleficen:maleficen
No Spoilers! I didn't know there WAS book 3 already out, and now book 4 too! I may have to look into borrowing or buying this one.

Same kids. Finn, Maybeck, Philby, Willa, Charlene...Wayne, Amanda and Jess are still around too.
:confused3 can't say :confused3

I like them too...keep waiting for DS11 to buy Vol 4...so I can read it.

I started reading the Harry Potter books too...I'm on year 5. Kids seem allot nicer and more polite (Harry in particular) in the movies than they are in the books.
Harry is a JERK in book 5. If you want to get into deep philisophical discussions about Harry Potter. I'm all in. In fact, a friend & I were debating what professions we'd consider if we were in Harry Potter's world. I would like to be a broom maker or home builder. Plumbing has to be easier when you just magic up a connection of copper, instead of soldering.

Shirts = check

Window decals = coming soon

DisDad tattoo = who will be first??????
I don't have a tattoo of my wife's name, so as much as I like you guys... No. Although, getting a collection of temporary tattoos may be alright, to show off at the water parks or something.

I don't know about you, but I sure am.
Thanks, Barry. This made me laugh. (though, w/o the original post, not as funny)
Ok guys, finally back...but not caught up.;)

Had a great grand gathering week at WDW. Got back last weekend and have had a very busy week back at work...no time to catch up on the threads.

Love the decals...would definately need a couple.

How tough was planning the Grand Gathering? My father is the 2nd oldest of 9, and I have 18 first cousins, most that have families of their own. My DW and I would like to coordinate a WDW trip, by telling everyone "go THIS week in 2012" but, did the World accomodate you all pretty well?

SHUTDOWN AVERTED!

party::jumping1:party:

Hooray for Fed and Aaron!
I saw this on the news, and even though my brother is a federal employee, i thought of you guys first. We aren't close...

ok guys, i am thinking about doing a "scavenger" hunt with my kids while i am at the world. I want to print out some pictures and have my kids find what is in the pics. my kids will be 9 and 6 so it can't be too hard to find the items.
Do you think this would be a fun activity? What do you think would be some suggestions to have them search for?
I think there was a couple suggestions about WDW scavenger hunts on DDC 3 or 4. I remember b/c someone said getting the Mayor would be tricky, since they aren't always out. And THAT's why I was so excited to meet councilman Dewey Cheatum on my last trip.

And, today's question: My DW mentioned surprising ME with a trip to WDW sometime. She also said that "geeking out" about trip planning was what made trips fun for me. (also true). So, while no one on this board would refuse an "ambush" trip to WDW, would anyone LIKE to wake up on the day of your "stay-at-home" vacation, and have the DW say, "Oh, let's get in the car and go to WDW this week instead, since I booked the trip 5 months ago." INSTEAD of doing the planning on your own?

It's a good thing I didn't convince DW to book a Disney trip for this summer.
Barring any surprises, I'll be in employment limbo starting Monday at around Noon (we're supposed to come in for four hours on Monday morning to "assist in effectuating an orderly shutdown.").

Glad that things were averted and things can be as "normal" on Monday morning. Whatever "normal" is. We're all getting played big time by the folks in DC

The kid from Duke that is coming out (irving, I believe) played like two or three games and some have him number 1. Kemba has a much bigger body of work. Also, with the kid from Ohio St. and the ones from NC staying the draft will not be deep.

Barnes is still in question, but the rumors are that he is going to stay. Regardless, I'm glad that at the bare minimum 2 of the 3 are staying. And, Irving has been the top pick since about his 2nd game of the season. I'm really surprised that coach kookooski didn't name him team captain; that's been his pattern in the past when guys were thinking about going pro.

It really has been a lousy day. My mom just called and told me that she has skin cancer. Nothing to serious, but anytime I hear cancer it scares the heck out of me. We lost my BIL a few years ago to cancer and just the word itself is enough to send shudders up my spine. It is on her nose and hopefully will not show up anywhere else. They are putting her on a topical treatment to start and see how she responds. My grandmother had the same thing and she ended up with a lot of problems over the years Like I said nothing that serious but I know that she is very upset and scared. If anyone has an extra prayer please send one her way.

Been there, done that with my father. Positive thoughts and prayers.

I bet none of the neighborhood kids want to mow your lawn. I imagine you following them around with a clipboard, and then convincing them to pay you at the end of it because of violations....

Dang, this one made me :lmao:

GREAT picture.

I would love to buy a DIS Dad window decal! :thumbsup2

I would be good with that too.

Messing with the compatibility mode and flash player won’t do anything as you found out. You probably need the I8IT patch that interfaces with IE6 and earlier software configurations. It may sound useless because you already upgraded to the IE8. The IE6 has a stymoan imbedded in the RAM of the server. The stymoan automatically scrambles and encodes certain websites based primarily on the amount of unauthorized user access. The more popular the site, the higher lever of encryption and the increase in the number of firewalls that need to be jumped to override the IE6 stymoan. I8IT is not cheap but unless you want to prevent it from reoccurring it is the only way to go.

That's some pretty interesting Chinese that you were speaking :lmao: I'm sure glad that IE6 has that stymoan imbedded in it instead of in my water :lmao:

Crazy weekend for us. DD had dance competition last night; had the pleasure of dancing at 9:45, then we turned around and drove home. DS has soccer games today and tomorrow, so we're pretty much covered up. Hope that everyone has a great weekend.

Well...I know which job I don't want...Defense Against Dark Arts Teacher at Hogwarts.

Not wanting a Harry Potter debate...but Harry in the books is not the Harry in the movies...Harry in the books is as they say "a git". Whatever that means?

Congrats to all our Federally employed dads...moms...sons...daughters...etc.

While I certainly wouldn't be disappointed to wake up and find out we were going to Disney World, I might be a tad bit disappointed that I didn't get to plan the trip. Of course that disappointment would fade really rapidly and by the time we got hereI'd be as excited as tigger:

Any chance she's letting you know about a surprise trip, so that you can provide input/recommendations about things you'd like to do on that trip? Could she be prepping you mentally so that if you're surprised your reaction is excitement not sorrow?

Do any of you Dad's have a Zero Turn Mower?

I'm thinking of making the plunge (thanks to my tax return - gotta love those deductions AKA my daughters!). :thumbsup2

Looking for recommendations on brands...etc..

Yeah, Harry really is an arrogant SOB at times. I guess she wanted to make him a flawed hero and make all of them act like her vision of teenagers. Snape really has good reason to hate him - not just because of his parents. He can be a real tool.

I don't think I'd like to be surprised with a trip anywhere, but I'd certainly go. :cool1: Heck, I'd take a vacation in Libya if it meant not going to the office.

As much as I love Disney, as all of us know, it is not a "relaxing" vacation. It is more of an "active" vacation. I carried a pedometer last year, and we easily walked 8-10 miles on most days. A slow day was around 6 miles. I tell people, if your idea of a vacation is to lounge around a pool or beach or resort all day, don't go to Disney.

After all who doesn't like wishes (besides people that don't like loud noises)

Letting my DW use my login:

Hi, Ryan! This is Chris' wife, Eileen. What kind of camera did you use for that fireworks shot? And, if you don't mind, what setting? Thanks!

Why would anyone want a mower that doesn't turn? You could only mow one strip of grass. :lmao:

I would recommend a Disney Cruise Line vacation for a relaxing vacation, though. :thumbsup2

You are right Chris...we always end up losing weight during a WDW vacation :rotfl2:..eat on the run and walk it off LOL

Accidental ownage! WooHoo!

I do not. My yard is not big enough. Maybe the next house :thumbsup2

Where have you cruised to? Any particular length you would recommend?

I have to agree that Disney cruises are relaxing and GREAT!!! We did a 7 night Western Route in Marc 2010 and we are booked on the Fantasy for an Eastern Route in June 2012....Personaly I would not want to do less than 7 day...because 3 4 or 5 day would be just getting my appetite up and I would have to go home :rotfl2: By the end of the 7 day you are ready to pack up and sleep in your own bed.

This was shot handheld with a nikon d300s. I believe my wife had an 18-200 mm lense on it at the time. I'll pull the exif data when I get home and send it to you.
