Next time you're in LA (lower alabama), check out:
1. USS Alabama- WW2 Battleship, great history and the kids will love exploring every nook and cranny.
2. Beaches- choose from Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, Fort Morgan or Dauphin Island. Great clean family friendly beaches, good local southern food and seafood . Fun activities for the family including waterparks, gocarts, putt-putt, and offshore fishing.
3. Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines- military fort remains dating back to the early 1800s. Fort Morgan is also the origin of the quote "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead."
4. The University of South Alabama fields Division 1 football, baseball and basketball teams.
5. This is Alabama, so you have to have some BarBQue. Try The Brick Pit, Sonnys, or Dreamland.
6. Outlet malls in Foley, AL on the way to Gulf Shores.
7. Bellingrath Gardens. The family estate of the local CocaCola bottling magnate now boasts beautiful gardens and light displays at Christmastime. Well worth seeing.
8. Bass Pro Shops (for you Fed) across the bay in Spanish Fort, AL. They have most everything a guy could need.
