This picture is great!:thumbsup2 Minnie mouse! This was a friend of your sons?

Yep. The one on the right is Max (my boy), and the one on the left is Tonssie (one of his buds). A good kid but his family has led a fairly hardscrabble life. Traveling to Orlando is not something that was likely to be in their cards any time soon. My son actually put up half the money for his friend’s park tickets and we picked up most of the rest of the expenses (basically food as there was certainly room in the car and adding a forth person to the room didn’t cost anything).

Like I said, this was the second time we’d done this. The first time was way back in 2001 (when Max was only 5). That time we brought the teenaged step-son of a good friend of mine (He’d had several prior step dads and had taken a lot of pretty hard knocks, but things were starting to turn around for him and his mom by then). Anyway, It was a similar story in that it was probably the only chance he was going to have to go (at least in his youth). His intention was to be like a mentor/assistant sitter for Max, but we really just wanted him to have the chance to go to WDW. Needless to say, a good time was had by all and I was able to let someone else discover a little bit of magic.

Sounds to me like y’all have a great expedition planned for you’re selves. I’m sure that you’ll all make lots of great memories.

Dave - thanks. Ron and the crew tried hard - but ultimately, I slowed it down...purposely... and then went to bed!

I don't know that it WILL be today - it MIGHT be today, it MIGHT be tomorrow. But no doubt it will be this weekend.

We gave it a good run, but Stopher is a hard egg to crack:lmao: With only 8 more posts to go his shell is getting weak:scared1: You know you want a taste of the 10,000 post omelet:rolleyes1

That is so sweet that he paid part of his friends trip!! Looks like your son in the pic was trying to distance himself from the mouse!:rotfl2: but his friend was digging into the situation.. Soo great that we are fortunate enough to bring someone to the mouse that have never been.. Is it wrong to enjoy the moment? I told my dd friend that Disney was just a little bigger than six flags.. :woohoo: I can't wait!!

I don't claim the following as my own and won't try to convert anybody, but think there is some wisdom in here. My condensed version is at the end.

"a few weeks ago, i found myself in the position of trying to explain my newfound interest in traditional wet shaving to a friend of mine. he's a thoroughly modern fellow and he uses modern shaving tools because, well...it's what modern guys do.

as i described the process to him, the paraphernalia, the pleasure, the advantages....one item provoked the strongest reaction. he was dismayed and appalled that i took 20 minutes to shave in the morning and that's really when it hit me. when you look at the rise of technology and the death of manly rituals, inevitably the clock is to blame. we have sacrificed a whole host of pleasures on the altar of time and we are ultimately the poorer for it.

the pipe gives way to the cigarette. the ocean liner gives way to the airplane. the restaurant becomes the drive-through and the conversation becomes the text message...and all because we, as men, continue to believe that if we could just save a bit more time in our day we'd be able to really get to the things we wanted to do. ironically, in the pursuit of having enough time to do what we want we are forced to dilute or discard the very things we wanted in the first place...and so our vitality dwindles away with every tick of the relentless clock.

perhaps that is why in some sense we're all here at B&B. we want to recapture a forgotten pleasure. we want to revel in the luxury of choosing what we do with our morning routine and most of all, we want to remember the simple joy of not taking the quickest or most expedient road, but the sweet meandering path of our own curiosity.

this weekend as i was rushing through a morning shave i thought about all of this. i took a breath, and remembered that there was nothing on the agenda that couldn't wait just a few minutes more. in the moment of that realization, i became once again the master of the clock instead of its servant and my little daily ritual took on an added sweetness that hadn't been there just a moment before.

i wish for everyone here a similar moment of timeless indulgence. in the day to day flow of obligation and expectation, i encourage you to find a moment to ignore the demands of the clock and take pleasure in this mutual interest we all share. gentlemen, i wish for you all a truly excellent shave."

That figures. I was up in the area today trying to find you to help but couldn't get in touch so I turned around and headed home. maybe next time...lol. Glad you found a way to get out of the work today and spend time with the family,

I actually ventured out today with the three kids alone. My wife works every other weekend at night in the hospital and we normally just sit around and play games. I took them to Cabelas to see the fish and the "stuffed animals". They had a great time and it got them away from the TV. We stopped at my brothers on the way home for a birthday party and I spent the rest of the night getting thrown up on by the baby.....Good Times.

Came up with my top 3 Disney channel shows

1- Phineas & Ferb:banana:
2- I'm In The Band
3 - Pair Of Kings

Busy day today. Busy evening this evening.

Enjoying this protracted period, honestly. I will hit 10,000 soon - I promise.

And it will be a good one, I hope. We'll see. Until then - have a great night, and a good Sunday. I'll be on here again sometime on Sunday.

Good luck! I am realxing for a few before our flag football game this morning.

I messed around on vistaprint.com and came up with this for $14.50 plus shipping. They are usually a little cheaper than zazzle. For the image on the back, I did get a warning that the resolution of the DisDads logo was not high enough for a non-blurry image when printed, so I reduced it and put it on the front. Just another option.

Oh yeah.......OWNAGE!!!

Don ~ Thanks! My son was thrilled to be awarded a second NAM!

Random question. Have any of you guys seen Jake and the Neverland Pirates? My youngest loves it but for some reason the animation reminds me of a kids cereal commercial. :confused3

No, I haven't ordered yet. A high-res version would probably work well on the back and I think it's only about $5 or so to add a back on vistaprint. Thanks!

On our way to our daughter's........she thinks she's in labor! We have grandson babysitting duty! :cool1:
