Hey,

My name is Matt and I want to join the club. I am 29 and from Somerset Ky, I work for a John Deere dealer so forward all your tractor and lawn mower questions to me:thumbsup2. My next trip to the world is November 27th to Dec. 3rd. and I will be staying at the Fort!

Welcome Matt!!! As a kid in Arkansas i spent most my summers at the John Deere Dealership flipping tires to get in shape for football. My grandfather actually built on a room at his house for all of his memorrabilia. Goes to Illinois every year to get his supplies for his refurbs that he uses in his tractor pulls. Glad to have you here, enjoy. NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE!!!!

Did you know that slogan was actually talking about the John Deere snowmobiles?

What's the best way to get from resort to resort using the bus system at WDW? ie: POR to AKL and back, Poly to POR

Question for everyone before I run to bed. I am currently planning my sep. '12 trip to stay at a value resort or off site due to finances. I have recently been looking at the deluxe sites incase I can afford to splurge. The 1 time I have been to WDW I was around 5 and we stayed at CR so I am considering that one because of my memories. Have been looking at the Poly and AKL as well. Postives, Negatives, and just random facts about the subject?

I like the monorail at CR and the Poly(dont know how much it matters though) and like the idea of waking up to girrafes in your window at AKL.

According to Disney easiest way to get from 1 resort to another:

Bus to Downtown Disney Area, transfer to Resort hotel bus

I like the monorail at CR and the Poly(dont know how much it matters though) and like the idea of waking up to girrafes in your window at AKL.

We stayed at the Poly in in October, and the monorail access (plus the easy walk to the TTC) was a HUGE plus when traveling with kids who need an afternoon break. We got really spoiled with the ease of transportation from the Poly. The extra cost is tough to swallow. But I'd say the three biggest bonuses of the Poly were:
1) Transportation
2) Room size (bringing two kids back for mid-day naps, being able to spread out meant they got to sleep faster and napped better).
3) Immediately adjacent dining - 'Ohana and Kona Cafe and the sushi bar and Captain Cook's, all right there at the Grand Ceremonial House, was wonderfully convenient

The overall atmosphere of the Poly is wonderfully laid-back, tropical, and relaxing. When we were in the at the Contemporary for dinner at the California Grill, the hotel overall seemed "busier" - almost frenetic, and very industrial as compared to the Poly.

We usually stay at POR/POFQ and we've done both. For AKL, we would take the boat to DTD and then a bus to AKL because we enjoy the boat ride. For the Poly, we would take the bus to MK and then the monorail to the Poly. You can take the bus from POR to any of the parks and then hop a bus to the resort of your choosing, also.

For those of you not going to a Disney destination this summer (me)... what are your plans or family trip(s) if any?

Besides the trip to Europe I've talked about. I'm looking forward to the DisDads meet at the Philly Zoo. I hope they have good cheese steaks at the zoo. You know, June 4th would be a great day for it. :thumbsup2

Resort to Resort transportation can be tricky, but not entirely difficult. While it is technically true that going to DTD is an easy way, I would argue it is not the best way. Many times it is the worst way, especially when you consider you are going east to go west in the POR to AKL example. There are limited examples where Resort to Resort transportation is entirely possible and direct, though they are more the exception than the norm. Monorail resorts provide this option. And a couple of the ones with boats do as well.

One of the things you need to do is think about your destination, and what else is nearby - and then go from there. All resorts have theme park transportation, all theme parks have resort transportation. Conversely all resorts have DTD and water park transportation, and vice versa. You are not limited to using one bus to get to one destination exclusively, you are actually free to use any combination therein to get around the world. Use neighboring destinations to your advantage, don't get locked in to thinking that the theme parks are stand alone entities or the resorts are - they are all linked together, even when they don't appear to be on the surface transportation-wise.

So in the POR to AKL example - I would NOT go to DTD first - rather I would hop on the AK bus and then at AK get on the AKL bus. AK is just a quick <5 min bus ride to AKL - arguably the shortest, fastest bus ride in all of the World. By grouping your destinations, and thinking it through logically - you will cut down on your transportation time, which is by far the worst part of WDW - how long it takes to get between destinations. Knowing how to best get between seemingly disparate destinations and minimize that travel time is one way how I've successfully made it through all 4 theme parks plus a water park & DTD in a single day...twice in the past (of course I was flying solo too, which certainly helped!).

Any time you check in to a Disney resort, you'll receive a GUIDE TO EVERYTHING, and it will have all of the available transportation options. I'll look in my drawers here at the office, I might have one or two of them lying around. If so, I'll scan the image. If not, perhaps someone else can beat me to that.

Well, I guess it is my turn for bad news.

My F-I-L failed his stress test at his checkup - so he has to go in next Wednesday so they can do the dye test to see if he has any clots or blockages. Besides the possible bad implications that could pose, this also means we have no one to watch our kiddos for our couples-only trip we had planned.

So now it looks like we will be doing a family trip to The World this summer instead. DD has been asking every day when she can go back to Cinderella's Castle, so I guess it works out OK in that regard. But, *sniff*, there goes my QVR @ V&A reservation. *Sniff*. Now DW has to make sure we can change the dates on the flight without too big of a penalty.

Actually, I think I will get more enjoyment out of being at WDW with the kids, anyway.

(Maybe I should just start looking for a job in Florida!)

I am sorry to hear that, you guys are in our prayers

Welcome ! ! You're gonna love it here

I would be up for that myself!

The "big" gathering of Dads last December was by no means a Dads-only trip though. It started with Barry's family trip, and morphed into a whole lot more as more and more dads were commenting that they would be there at or near the same time. A bunch of meets happened, and it was great - but it was more a bunch of family vacations that coincided than anything else. But just think what fun a guys only trip could be. :rotfl: Your DW would be okay with it... so would mine... but many of them DW's in this place most likely wouldn't is my guess.

Not sure I could make it, as I am having trouble convincing the little woman to go.... however I could always try the approach, if you don't go, I'll go without you, I am sure that would work! !

We will be there Dec 10th - 17th :cool1::thumbsup2:cool1:
But........................The wife won't let me pay to bring along any other DisDad's. :rolleyes1

Aww please, I really wanna go

Considering you have not been to WDW since you were 5, I would ask first what kind of a trip are you looking at?

  1. One where you want to be able to see and do as much as possible in the given number of days you'll have - open to close?
  2. One that enjoys park days to the fullest, but also explores other options that the World has to offer, including exploring the other resorts and DTD?
  3. Or one that is filled with relaxing pool time, with visits to the theme parks, but aren't necessarily open to close?

Honestly I believe that the answer to these questions will help provide better feedback, since the resorts are truly destinations unto themselves, but you'll pay a whole heck of a lot more for that theming and atmosphere in any of the deluxes, but especially those monorail resorts. If you aren't planning on enjoying much time at the resort, and would rather visit the theme parks pretty much nonstop throughout your stay, a moderate or value resort would probably be the way to go. If you have the resources and don't mind spending them on a resort you'll hardly be at except to sleep and shower, then yeah, by all means - the deluxe resorts are awesome.

However you can visit any resort and get a feel and flavor for it without actually paying for it. A great way to do that is by scheduling a meal (character or otherwise) at any of the resort restaurants. We love going to Chef Mickey's - it gets us to the Contemporary, even when not staying there, and then we'll wander around a bit before and after the meal - same for the Luau or O'hana at the Poly. Or try BOMA at AKL, and enjoy those savannahs before and/or after the meal. PLus in doing this - you get to get a sampling, see the decor, lobbies, etc - and then decide if it's a resort you'd like to stay at another time in the future.

I finally downloaded and listened to the first 15 min of episode 2 of the DIS Dads podcast this morning. I just wanted to say that I love the new intro music. :thumbsup2

It's dark, not 'scary' or violent. It's fairly tame, but not too easy for the little ones to pick up, my 6 year old gets stuck in the first level, the 3 year old just watches....
Heck, I got stuck on the first level for a while. I couldn't figure out how to get up to the top thing you had to turn. Once I got past that it wasn't too bad though. I got it for Christmas and I think the last thing I completed was the ice cream cake... I played it off and on for a while, but just haven't had a lot of time the last couple of months. It really is a lot of fun though.

Welcome to the club! I live on a farm with a lot of green paint. I actually bought the only non-green tractor on our farm last week. I bought an old Versatile just for some cheap tillage HP. If you could make an 8310R fall off the back of a trailer about 30 mi SE of Indianapolis though, I'd love to upgrade!:rolleyes1 By the way, I'm going to be at WL the same week you'll be at the Fort.

They dont have great steaks at the zoo, but I spent 5 years in the city. I can get you to about 5 different good spots within a 10 minute ride of the zoo.

June 4th also works pretty well for my family. Hopefully we can make this work! Just do me a favor, and don't wear any Orioles stuff, not sure if I woulld wanna be seen with an "other". HAHA :rotfl2:
