YOU CHICAGO BOYS CAN PACK THAT STANLEY CUP UP, LOOKS LIKE IT WONT BE THERE MUCH LONGER!!! :lmao: HOW BOUT THEM FLYERS!!!:thumbsup2

Uh, so yeah, yesterday was not a particularly good day for Chicago sports....

Thankfully this is the year the Cubs will win the World Series!

When we flew down in December I had to fly into Clearwater and out of Orlando...got a good deal on Priceline for a minivan and name your own price.

Yeah, Priceline is telling me that my itenerary is not available for the name your own price. Great......:confused3

I had thought about Gatlinburg , but I was not sure that there was enough to keep us busy for a week or if it was more a long weekend type thing...I had forgotten about Dollywood Have you stayedin the cabins before?

I'm sorry I missed the exchange, but I second everything that Bunch24 told you about Gatlinburg. We go every other year, and while we usually only spend about 4 days there, we find plenty to do to keep things fresh. As he said, there are plenty of options for cabins there. We always go to a place called Oak Haven Resort in Sevierville. Every cabin we've stayed in has been absolutely gorgeous. Most of them have game rooms with an arcade game/pool table/foosball/hot tub and usually a 2 level wrap around porch with some beautiful scenery. The resort also has a spa and pool for the entire resort to share. It is easy to just spend a day at the resort swimming, playing games, and enjoying the trails around the property.

As he said earlier, there is plenty to do in the national park and there is an abundance of shopping, golf, miniature golf, bumper boats, go-karts (basic tourist trap junk, but we all know it is fun). I also agree that Dollywood is worth a visit if you go. It is easy to knock out in a day, although I've never been to the water park he speaks of... (mental note).

I've been to Ripley's Aquarium a couple of times and really enjoyed it. We like to be there right when it opens so we can spend the morning there, then grab lunch and wander around Gatlinburg during that afternoon. It makes a nice full day that way. I'd like to recommend another attraction that is over by Sevierville though... The Muscle Car Museum.... you will drool and that is a promise. Chevelles, Cudas, GTOs... you name it they have it in about half a dozen colors.

We stayed in Sevierville also. It was at a friend of the family's cabin, but I'm fairly certain we drove by the ones you stayed at quite often. We didn't the Muscle Car Museum, but we were told it was awesome.

Wow, a bunch of Chatty Carls (male version of Cathys) today.

AJRitz: Glad to hear your Dad's procedure went as well as expected. Good luck with Squeaker and finding the right balance.

Non-Disney Vacations: I agree that non-Disney trips are good as well. We are planning a road trip ("ROAD TRIP!!!") this summer to go see my folks up in Edmonton, with a few sightseeing stops along the way at Mt. Rushmore, Buffalo Gap, The Corn Palace (we'll take a special picture for you Trennr) and of course WALL DRUG! (Think South of the Border for South Dakotan).

Dis Dad Meetups: I've only had the good fortune to meet up with 1 dad so far (FreezinRafiki) but I hope to add to that total as time / opportunity allows.

Chicago Sports: I think my status on Facebook yesterday summed it up pretty well... "Northwestern lost by 32, Hawks lost to Philly and now the Bears... This is not a good day." I now know what it must be like to be a sports fan in Cleveland.

I was looking at the cabins on the Oak Haven web site...WOW those are nice!!:woohoo:

I was off today and so I had more time than usual to chat it up on line

I've been to Gatlinburg so many times and never once have stayed in a cabin. The last several times we have gone we have stayed at the Greystone Lodge in Gatlinburg right next to the aquarium. Gatlinburg is a wonderful place for a quick weekend trip or a week long vacation because there is so much to do in the area. Now it makes me wanna go back there.

Well I broke down and went to the Doc tonite, left with a script for a Z-pack and cough med:worship: After 8 days of clogged nose and coughing up a lung, I just can't take it anymore:scared1:

I could have gotten some time off at work (since I'm in the freezer) But who wants to burn days when it's cold out, those are like mini vacation days:lmao:

Still have to come up with 1 more, just waiting to see what the park hours for August are 1st:confused3

thats the way i looked at it for about 8 years when it first came out. but with the cost of everything going up over the past 11 years. after adding it all up, with fees, intitial investment, for 45 years, it comes to $2300.00 per year. which is alot of money. but, we couldnt go as much, stay as long as we do and stay in the resorts we stay in for $2300. the argument a guy made with me on these boards a few years ago was, i should of taken that 20k and invested it in the stock market and pay cash for my vacations with some of the money i make in the stock market. well, we all know what happened to the stock market and i dont know what ever happen to mr. stock broker but, looks to me like the unedumacated, cant spell, former orphan made a heck of a good investment. :lmao: we would toss $30 in the washers and dryer while we were there and just the savings on food is alot. we eat one meal out everyday and the rest we eat in the room. but, its all how you vacation. we spend time in the resort. i love sitting on my balcony watching the golfers and enjoying the sun. we have freinds that stay at all star sports. they check in throw there stuff on the beds and head to the parks. come back at night, sleep and do it again all day the next day.for 6 days, they see the inside of there hotel for about 20 min. per day. its a big investment!! but for us, it paid off and saved us alot of money. that being said,i have to admit, it was my wifes idea. :lmao: i told her she was peanut butter nuts!!!( i didnt use peanut butter!!) she wanted this thing, it was to much!!!! as you can imagine, i hear it evey time we pull up to the sec. gaurd building.at okw :lmao:
We've decided to buy in, but we're going to save up a bit first. I'd love to do it now while the friend's and family discount is going (along with the $20/pt discount for AKV for purchases of 160pts+) but I know that we're going to have to finance and I'd like to pay as much of it off before we buy in as possible. As it stands, it'll probably be April before we take the plunge. Maybe May.

Thank you to everyone for your help! I really do appreciate it!
