Barry I still think all the Dads should go with me and Shari on the Fantasy June 2012!:cool1:

For anyone thinking about a DCL trip I have one suggestion. BOOK EARLY! DW and I have been looking at options for a 20th anniversary trip this coming June and Peanut Butter the prices are $$$. The closer to the trip, the higher the rate.

We are leaving on the 4th and staying at POR. I cant wait. 12-14 hr days is starting to take it's toll and I really need this vacation.
Talk to you soon.

Cool! :cool1: That's awesome that you are able to book the trip so close!

So this new job I have apparently has a few perks that I wasn't quite aware of when I started a couple of months ago.

Long and short of it is I will be stuck in southern Florida over the MLK Day weekend on my own. So given that I'll have a company paid rental card, with unlimited miles, I'm thinking of taking a drive a few hours north on Saturday Morning and spending the night in the WDW area.

SO if there are any Dads who will be at The World during the weekend of Jan 15/16 let me know if you are able to do a meetup. (I won't be buying a park ticket since I won't have a full day either day to use a full fare ticket.)

:thumbsup2 Even if you don't get to do a meet up, have a great time at DTD and resort hopping!

Gents-
I'm looking in to getting a trip together for my extended family and I'd like to glean some wisdom from your collectively considerable experience. Given the extremely attractive rates of some very nice rental homes in the area, I'm thinking of staying off-property next time. I know a lot of you are DVC owners and therefore rarely if ever stay off-site, but if you ever have stayed at a non-Disney property, what did you think? The main thing I'm thinking about is transportation. My research suggests that leaving a house and driving to a park will almost always take less time than relying on Disney(although I'd have to pay for parking), but what do you think? Is it an extra hassle to be responsible for your own transportation or is it a blessing to know that you won't have to face a huge bus/boat/monorail liine that makes several stops before getting to your destination.

My heart says go back to Disney, but my wallet says find a way to do it cheaper (hence, the rental home idea). If we were to stay on-site, I'd need to rent enough DVC points to get at least 3 rooms in either BWV or BLT. When you add up the costs, a rental home merits strong consideration. Then there's the issue of being away from the Disney atmosphere. I liked being right in the heart of it at BWV and I might miss it if I stayed off-site.

Also, this hypothetical trip would take place Oct 29 - Nov 5. That's during Food & Wine. I've never been there during that time. What does it do to the crowds at Epcot? I'm sure the crowds swell quite a bit, but are those folks going to impact the lines for the attractions or just clog up World Showcase?

Any input is appreciated.

I've only had the opportunity to stay on-site once, all other trips have been off-site. While I believe that Disney does a great job with the transportation, I would likely drive to most of the parks even if I stayed on property just because I think I can get there and back much quicker than waiting. The one exception may be MK since you may have to take a tram and either monorail or boat to get from parking lot to entrance gate.

It seems to me that you can get better prices and more space in an off-site. Especially if you rent a house or town house. Also having a full kitchen has helped us save money on a few trips by having breakfast in the room and having evening snacks and such on hand after we get back.

Parking at the parks is expensive at $14 per day but if anybody in your group has an annual pass, you get free parking. Still not worth buying an AP just for the parking but just throwing that out there.

Our last trip was during Food and Wine and while I think that the crowds were a little heavier than they would have been otherwise, I don't think that it was a that much of an impact.

Daddy-O I got some snow (34 inches) that I think belongs to you, You can come and pick it up anytime:lmao:

I knew that you guys had a bunch of snow, but 34 inches :scared1: The most that I've ever seen was about 14 inches in the "blizzard of 93", and I thought that was a bunch. I can't even fathom 34 inches and how long it will hang around.

Dang, I'm gonna miss you there by a couple of days. We're headed down on the 20th for a long weekend. Sorry we're gonna miss you. By the way, is anyone going to be there the 20th - the 24th of January???

Still trying to wrap my mind around the "thing" that was the football game between Tennessee and UNC last night. Love my Heels, and glad that they won, but that was probably the nuttiest ending to a football game that I have ever seen. Did any of you guys catch it??

I hope y’all get to pull that trip off. We are also celebrating a 20th anniversary this June (well, ours is actually in April, but we can’t travel until June). Unless other facets of life interfere, we’ll be sailing on the new Disney Dream for five days (with two stops at Castaway Cay) starting on June 26th (just maybe I’ll see you then).

Must agree with you on booking early. Of course the condition of the economy also has an impact. If DCL thinks they will have problems filling the cabins, they’ll throw a special out there. Keep an eye on the DCL section of these boards. The regulars over there are vey keen to find and share discount info. It is also true that DCL is more expensive then the other lines. Some think that they are worth it (like myself), some disagree (rather vociferously at times). If you’d like to be on the water this June on way or another, you might take a look at RCCL (my second choice) or Carnival (generally the least expensive).

Although nowhere near your wild numbers, we have had a relatively snowy December in Chicago. And up until two days ago, it's been cold so there hasn't been any melting. But that all changed yesterday as things warmed up, and today is even warmer - most of the snow is gone. Let's hope that you guys get a slow, gradual thaw - don't want flooding to compound the problems!:thumbsup2

We did get a couple of winter hits earlier this month but nowhere near what you guys have been "fortunate" enough to get. It is actually a balmy 8 degrees Celsius (about 46 F) hear today and the snow is pretty well gone. The river we live on is also melting very quickly, snow mobiles were tearing up and down but that has all stopped.

By the way...you can keep it.:lmao:

Happy New Year Dads!!!!!

Does anyone know of any live feeds from Disney we can watch to bring in the new year?

This board used to have restrictions on posting for competing sites, but there good sites out there. I would search for something that allows you to keep your EYES pealed ON a particular feature of mickey's head (his two giant EARS). :rolleyes1 There's a nice feed of the Polynesian on right now, with a good view for the fireworks later.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all! Be safe!

Thanks....I understood your subtle hints "wink wink" loud and clear. Watching the live feed right now. :lmao:

Feels like we are right there. If I have to be at home for New Years Eve... I may as well be at Disney.:thumbsup2

Can't help with the off property info as we are DVC members. As for the parks, October is usually less crowded than other months. However, the Epcot resorts are really busy then. F&W tends to have Epcot more crowded on the weekends, but during the week, it is not that bad. You have Halloween in there, which should draw crowds to the MNSSHP at MK. There is also a Jersey week around that time, but I'm not sure of the exact dates.

To all - Have a Magical New Year

Wishes and Pixy Dust all around!!! pixiedust:
