Hello Gentleman...mind if I join in the fun???

I just found the thread so I thought I would say hello. I'm currently sitting at my desk during lunch wearing a Tigger watch, reading the disboards, and listening to a twenty three minute recording of a ride through the classic Epcot attraction Horizon's. I have a lovely wife, three kids ages 15, 13, and 11, and a 4 year old pug that actually acts and smells more like an 80 year old man. Does that qualify me to be a DIS Dad???

I live in the suburbs of Detroit and don't get to the world as much as I would like. I always seeming to be planning a trip that has no dates attached. Anybody else do that?

Anyway it's nice to meet you all.

Kyle

Kyle, WELCOME to the insanity known as the DisDads club!! How is it in sunny Detroit today?

Morning! Topic of the Day: Alone Time (heads out of the gutters, boys).
I love my DW more than I can say. And my 3 boys and baby girl really are amazing. However, once in a while, am I wrong for taking an evening away from all of them? I was signed up for a volleyball league through work, and missed all but 2 night. But man... those were a couple great evenings. No diapers, no "he stole my legos" no "fold the laundry and take out the trash" just... competitive sporting.

That's not wrong to enjoy that one evening a month (or so), right? (I also played a little guitar late, too. But I'm significantly better at volleyball than guitar)

Not wrong at all. In fact, I think it makes for a healthier relationship with your wife. I play on a men's ice hockey team once a week or so - usually at 10:00pm - so the kids are basically in bed when I leave the house. I am also part of a monthly foosball club where once a month we go to someone's house, drink beers, play foosball and re-live our college days.

THese activities keep me in shape and put me in a very happy mood, which my wife appreciates because my job is basically sedentary and high-stress.

Hello Gentleman...mind if I join in the fun???

Kyle

Welcome Kyle!!

Howdy Kyle... I do believe that the Tigger Watch alone qualifies you for instant membership and a seat on the Board of Directors (assuming we had such).

Board of Directors? That assumes we have direction!! In a given day, the discussion can change from the Blue Angels to too much snow to the closing of the Snow White ride to animal birthing fluid.

Welcome to the club! I'm always planning a trip that probably won't happen. Fortunately my wife said yes to the most recent one, so I feel like I'm legit for once.

I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting a night out once in a while.

I am on an APA pool league with some college friends. We play every Tuesday night and, as much as I love my family, I think it's healthy to have some "me time" each week.

Luckily my wife agrees. I watch the kids while she does her craft shows, jewelry classes, etc. and she lets me play pool.

You can call in and say that you are sick of the snow. That should take care of getting a sick day for you. :rotfl: :rolleyes1

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

You could also claim you have rectal glaucoma. Namely, you can't see your butt coming into work.

I believe there is a clear consensus on this one.

Time away from the house is good for your sanity (or lack there of as the case may be). So long as she also has a similar opportunity, then I see it not only as a good thing, but a moral imperative.

I think that's the only string attached, as far as I'm concerned.

Welcome to the asylum, Kyle! Fortunately, the inmates are in charge here. :thumbsup2

Any straight razor users? I have gone from years of the Billy Gibbons look to actually dragging a sharp piece of metal across my face. If I have to do it to keep DD happy (yes she has me wrapped around her finger) I might as well turn it into as enjoyable experience as possible. Looking for suggestions on a good razor, shaving soap, brush, and lotion.

Sorry, can't help. But have you thought about an alternative? I stopped putting my face through that abuse, but I have really sensitive skin. I found a good electric (I know, I know... but they are pretty darn good nowadays). After the break-in period (2 weeks) I get a good shave and my face stays healthy. I used to get major razor burn, but now I'm good.

If you are open-minded about the whole shaving thing, check out the great forum here: http://jimelliott.suddenlaunch2.com/

If not, just disregard this post. :rotfl:

Welcome, Kyle!

Did you know you can get a taste of Disney near you? The Detroit airport has an Earl of Sandwich in it! I wish I had one closer to me than the 4+ hours drive to San Antonio. Lucky!

I have relatives in Sterling Heights. We used to catch a Tigers ball game at the old Tigers Stadium when we would visit. My dad grew up in Warren.

well poop on me.....lots has changed since the last update dads. Still busy around here, but the news isn't so good anymore. Not sure if anyone follows politics at all, but all that budget talk has resulted in a hiring freeze and DW is caught in the middle. Just our luck, the one light at the end of this long and dark tunnel was turned out (having visions of the old Mr. Toads Wild Ride with the train coming at you....wait, did I just date myself?). Anyhow, we really aren't sure what this means in the long run, for now we are in a holding pattern. From what we've read this can go either way, there is some sort of deadline for approving the budget set for March 4th and I guess everything pivots on that date. However, we are unclear if how this freeze will affect our plans, she was already given an offer and her background check had already started. We don't know if the freeze affects those already in process as well as any new applicants.

Now, in an attempt to make lemonade, we decided that if we indeed are stuck here, we're buying annual passes..........

There is some good news, but I'm reluctant to share it until it's finalized since the last time I did that it got taken away.......

I didn't know the was an Earl of Sandwich there. It looks like it's in the new terminal which I never seem to fly out of:mad:

Well, I hope everything works out for you. No news tends to be worse than just getting bad news straight up. Either way sounds like a win/win situation... either you'll get to move and your wife can start her new job, or you're getting annual passes. As cold as it is today, you probably wouldn't want to be in Indiana anyway.

Dave, next time he's home I'll bring him over so he can sign it in person!
sounds good mike!!:thumbsup2
Christian @^^#$%&*#$#%^#&#^ Latener. Christian @^^#$#Y(()^%^#% Laetner. There aren't enough curse words in the English language to describe my total dislike for him. I've watched replay after replay of Timberlake's chest getting in the way of his foot and I still can't believe that an intentional foul wasn't called and he wasn't thrown out of that game. By the way, I'm not a UK fan at all; I pull for UNC, so we have one thing in common; hatred for/of Dook.

You can call in and say that you are sick of the snow. That should take care of getting a sick day for you. :rotfl: :rolleyes1
they would let me do it but im trying to save them for an dded day at wdw in october.:thumbsup2

Annual passes will surely help take the sting away. We where really looking forward to the cold actually. Oh well, I'll be sure to have lots of lemonade at Disney (tentative early June).

It was a hard blow to take. To think that she was probably only a couple of weeks away from getting a solid offer. The department knew the freeze was coming and was trying to speed her through before it hit, the freeze came before hand. Hopefully things will change, we haven't lost all hope, the fact that she's already in process may help, I've read rumors that those who are already in process of being hired are cleared, but no new hires will take place. But we haven't heard that from any official source yet.

This is our first photo of our son as a Blue Angel! He does have his air show schedule and it sounds like he will be doing 22 or 23 shows this year, including Lynchburg, Millville, NJ, and Rochester, among them. For more info and to see the entire 2011 Team, go to the Blues official Web site.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
