AJ, I'm glad your Bug is better. That's an awful lot of "croup"/stridor. I hope that you're seeing an ENT for her. Also, there's no excuse for them needing to "go through the protocol". If you know what works for her, and they don't listen, you need to find a better physician advocate for you (I.e. new pediatrician, ENT, peds pulmonologist). Message me if you need references in your area. Good luck & God bless!

Hey guys! I'm back from my Daddy-Daughter Adventure, and all I can say is - I wish I were back there already!!!

We had a great, great time. I will get some pics uploaded soon. 3 nights - and I only walked away with 685 on my camera... plus the probably 100 or so photopass shots. Hmmm - I think I have some organizing to do before I post anything...

I DID meet up with Nate - though it was brief - yesterday, late in the afternoon at Epcot. I do have a photo to post as well. Great guy, but definitely not morning people in that family. :rotfl: That's okay. Lots of phone & text tag trying to connect. But it as great fun.

And my DW made it safely to CA tonight (as some of you saw on FB). She'll be out there for 10 days (more if needed), and is definitely looking forward to some quality time with her dad (though she did say she's ready to come when we talked on the phone a little while ago...something about absence DOESN"T make the heart grow fonder - rather it makes the family grow weirder... :confused3 :rotfl2: ) Oh well. I'm sure she'll enjoy her time out there, as best as she can given the circumstances. We'll know more by Friday as to what the next steps are for my FIL.

Well - I'm tired. Up late last night packing gear, and up early this morning to get us ready to get to the DME on time. Then flying, & home to be a single parent, with 2 different meetings tonight in 2 very different parts of town, both at the same time - one was mine, one my eldest. Told him if he wanted to go, he'd have to find a ride because I couldn't be in two places at once. He did, and we did fine. But there's lots like that on the calendar for the next couple of weeks... it's going to prove to be interesting - no doubt. God bless those single parents that have to do it every week all year long!

AJ - Glad the kids are feeling beter:goodvibes

Steve- Will be keeping Shari in my prayers, hopefully it is nothing serious.:goodvibes

Chris- Glad you guys had a great trip, will be keeping your FIL in my prayers:goodvibes

GoHerd: Our thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

Stopher: Welcome home. You'll have your hands full for next couple of weeks, so don't worry about us, we'll try to keep the place picked up around here.

DSNYFRK: Psychology of Human relations? Isn't that the same thing as BS? :rolleyes1 Just kidding... please don't analyze me... :scared1:

Page 128 OWNAGE!!!

That sounds great! I wish we had the patience to not tell the kids when we're going. We >200 days away and my son asks every day if we're going tomorrow.
One of the reasons we're keeping it a surprise is to avoid exactly that. :rotfl:

We know the underlying cause of the croup issues. She has a fairly mild case of eosiniphilic esophagitis, just below her vocal chords. This means that there are cells in the wall of her throat that are hyper-sensitive. What happens is that she gets a mild cold or her seasonal allergies get triggered. A combination of post-nasal drip and regular old stomach acid inflames the eosiniphils, and her throat swells. When she was younger, her throat opening was smaller and the swelling ALWAYS ended in a trip to the ER (few things will encourage you to ignore traffic signals quite like a toddler whose fingernail beds are turning blue). As she's gotten older, and her throat opening has grown with the rest of her body, the swelling is still very uncomfortable, but usually doesn't significantly interfere with her airway.

We deal with the eosiniphillia issues by moderating the acidity of the foods that she eats (tomatoes and orange juice are common problem foods), and she's been on a daily dose of acid controlling meds since her diagnosis. (And because pediatric Zantac tastes so nasty, she learned to take pills at 18 months). She's now almost 8 years old, so she's been on a daily dose of Zantac for nearly 6 1/2 years. What this probably means is that she's developing a resistance to Zantac, and we need to switch her to another anti-acid medication. We started her back on omeprazole tonight (she took it for a little while a few months ago, but we thought we might be moving her away from the Zantac too soon, and omeprazole is much more expensive).

As for the Urgent Care response, they don't like to give the racemic epinephrine because the side effects include tachycardia and, in rare cases, pediatric myocardial infarction. Because she's already got a repaired patent ductus near her heart (and a much, much, smaller arterial leak that's still there), they don't like to go to the racemic epinephrine unless they have to. Also, because of those side effects, they're supposed to keep her for observation for a minimum of two hours after giving the treatment.

Glad to hear that the little one is okay. It's never fun having to take the little ones to the dr, urgent care or the er. On another note looks like we'll be in DW at the same time.

I thought I remembered that our trips were at similar times. I'll shoot your a PM with our rough itinerary - it would be great if we could coordinate a meet up.

One a happier note....Marshall is playing WVU and it is on TV Friday evening...so you guys can look for us...I will be the one wearing green and yelling for the Herd! :rotfl2:

I'm gonna need a bit more info to find you, will you have a hat on?:rolleyes1

And I'll send you a PM with some info. Look forward to meeting you.

How is everyone's today going? All I can say is....I thought tomorrow was Friday...>Uuuugh! These new 4 day work weeks are just really throwing me off when I worked the holiday on Monday.....

Been and interesting day here....Shari had to go to ENT for the mass the doc felt in her throat...he ordered a thyroid biopsy...so luckily for her....I pulled some strings and called in a few favors and we got that done today....They took an exact measurement of the mass and it was over 3cm which means the doc is going to take it out whether or not the biopsy comes back malignant. I had a rare hereditary form of Thyroid cancer in 94 so I guess she is trying to be more like me!:rotfl2: Might as well make a joke of it and laugh to keep from crying! LOL

No I never got a PM, but I am looking forward to some good fun. We are there the 15th-21st. This trip is going to be a nice see what happens trip, we have ADR's but not really much in terms of plans of where we are going each day, with the exception of MNSSHP on the 18th. I know that is so unusual for me. My spreadsheet is only one page that has my ADR's and Park hours, so different from my usual page a day itinerary from past trips.

I get to do the packing this time since my wife works all weekend, so wish me luck that I do not forget anything.

Good News: we are offcialy 7 days away from being in the world! (9/16 to 9/26 GF, MNSSHP on the 18th) We leave on the 16th. So...we don;t count today...nor the day we leave...leaving 7 days to anticipate the coming events.
As a matter of fact, yes! We'll be staying at POR from the 18th to the 25th. So we're 10 days away. PM me and I can give you more details. :thumbsup2
I am officially jealous! :lmao::lmao:

Have a great time!!!!!!!

my sister just called, she brought my brother in law home from philly today. they both have been at the univ. of pa for the last 4 weeks, he had a stem cell transplant and his counts are high enough for him to come home. :thumbsup2
Great news... thanks for sharing. :goodvibes
