Our Navy son received his official orders today: he is now a U.S. Navy Blue Angels Selectee!!!! :cool1::banana::woohoo::yay:

He will be finishing up his duty at NAF Washington, DC, on September 30th and reporting to Pensacola soon after! This will be a 3-year tour and he will begin training as a Crew Chief for one of the 7 show jets shortly after his arrival and indoctrination. He will be traveling to approximately 1/2 of the Blue Jets' 36 air shows per year. CONGRATULATIONS, SON! Do I sound like one proud father?!?!?

That's the best news I have heard all day! Congratulations!!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

I'll have to finally stop by Nazareth to pay you a visit, with my son!

welcome anytime mike. our name is on the disney mail box.(would you expect anything else?):lmao: if you see a dark greyish, light black chevy uplander mini van in front , im home!!! :thumbsup2

Not taking a vacation with my Inlaws and the rest of her family, I did that once too (it was that July trip:lmao:) I have nothing against any of them But they slow me down, totally on a different time agenda

Drove a van with family members including my parents and my future wife. Let's say it didn't go well to be nice. Road trip from Heck. The moaning and groaning. To slow for me at times. Felt like I was baby sitting or running a tour service.

I'm gonna' go against the grain here because my parents went with us this past January and we had an AWESOME time.

:lmao: i did the inlaw trip to wdw in 89. that was the first and last vacation with them i ever took!:lmao: to hot, to much, to fast,to,to,to,they drove me up a wall and we didnt even get into s.carolina yet!!!:lmao: not to mention there "plunkers".

My parents went with us on our last trip as well, and we had a great time. WE had 3 strollers, so we definitely needed the extra hands.

I'm with you. I like vacations with the family because I am forced to do things that I would not have done, the majority of which I end up enjoying.

Looks like 3 votes for extended family vacations and 3 votes against extended family vacations.

My input - DW, dds, DW's mother, and I went to visit her brother and his family on Thanksgiving in PA (outside State College). We arrived Wed night and I started drinking. We got to their house on Thursday morning, and I started drinking at 9:00 AM. We went out to breakfast Saturday morning at some Waffle shop before the drive home, and I pushed out the loudest fart while we were eating so that it would shock her into shutting up. It worked. My vote is no.

Now, DW wants to take all the above to WDW and get Treehouse or Grandvilla for all of us. The insanity .....

That… Sir… Is one mighty accomplishment.

Congratulations to your boy and we all wish him well as he embarks on an assignment that both an honor and a huge challenge. He has good reason to walk just a bit taller. As parents, we’re all overjoyed when our kids meet and surpass the challenges ahead of them, but I do believe that you must be just about to bust at the seams. Wear that new avatar with pride and thanks for letting me know exactly where I’m going to be on May 1st next year (Beaufort here I come). :thumbsup2

Guys, I am tagging along with a lot of TRs and PTRs on the DIS and one post in particular caught my eye and my heart. I wish all of you would read post #921 located in this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2482610&page=62 and see what you think. I know some of you have been willing to help in the past and I just thought this might be a really worthy cause for us to help with if possible.
I just wanted to post this again because I thought it was a touching story and I wanted to make sure everyone saw it.

Well (this has been going on a couple of pages, but…) let me chime in on the traveling with relatives issue. As I believe y’all finally agreed, it depends on the individuals involved. It helps greatly to know what you’re getting into in the first place. Those poor soles that are traveling with new and/or future relatives, will have it worst, because you’re trying to make a good impression, and they don’t really know everyone’s quirks yet. :confused3

For me, traveling with my in-laws can be a challenge as well, but I’ve been around them a long while, so I should well know by now what to expect (and I do) and I just make sure (very sure) that every plan is open ended and adjustable. Case in point: I don’t even get up out of the chair until every one of the women are up, have their pocketbooks and are already half way out the at the door. :rotfl2: I know better and it lets them fuss at me about needing to get a move on (my attempting that in the other direction would be futile :sad2:). First rule: Know you comrades. If you don’t get along during Thanksgiving dinner,:headache: you probably won’t do that well during a full week on the road (even at WDW ).

Ok… enough of that noise. Now where is the next tangent we can catch a ride on? Any suggestions? :lmao:
