Ok Facebook Dads.....I just sent you another DisDad friend...it is Bunch24 from Louisiana and he is looking forward to getting to know each of us better!!

For my girls, it started as a couple of coupons for a free pin. When they received the pin they kind of looked at it like "why would I want this?" but then a CM told them that they could trade it with any CM that had a pin lanyard. The eyes brightened up and they were hooked!

The best way to get into it is to start by buying a lanyard set with a few pins included. They are often multiples of the same pin. Then find the cast members with the lanyards or the patches on their belt. There are a few CMs that have special colored patches that only trade with kids.:thumbsup2

That is nice that they will only trade with kids...do they kids have to initiate the trade or do the Cast members do that? I am not sure Ethan would initiate it yet or not.

Got a mailer from our Disney Visa...where they offer 3x reward points on certain purchase types. Gas, Groceries, Dining, and Airlines. Guess it doesn't hurt to sign up...but reading the fine print. not sure it would help.

Only works from July-Sept. Only works if the vendor sends them appropriate info specifing that items are one of the above types.

Anybody else had luck with this type of offer? :confused3

I haven't got the mailer yet but I take advantage of it whenever it is offered, I usually average around a extra 50 Dis Dollars during the promotion, the way I look at it 50 bucks is 50 bucks.:confused3

If it is run the same way as it was in the past, you have to call to activate it + you have to spend more than $1000 in the categories they list before eligible for the 3x reward.

If you charge your gas, food etc. instead of paying cash and pay it off when the bill comes you can do pretty good:thumbsup2 Any extra Dis cash is always a good thing:woohoo:

Kids initiate and there is no pressure to trade. Just walk up to the CM and ask to see their pins. If the CM has one that they want, just pick it out and hand over one for trade. That is the hard part. "Which one do I give up for the one that I want?"

It's a great way to start some interaction between the guests and the CMs.

If you go to eBay you can find someone selling a lot of pins at a cheap price (compared to the park) they are common ones, but it's better than paying 4 bucks or more on each one:confused3

We bought a ton of pins on our Disneymoon, but other than a couple on our second trip, we haven't been real big on pins.

Maybe I should look into resurrecting my pin collection, especially for the sake of my two boys, who will one day inherit what could be a very nice collection.

Thanks for the e-bay tip, Commando. I think I'll use that to add to the collection. I don't mind the common pins, especially if they can be used as trade fodder for our next trip.

Hey Guys!!

I have been away for a while but things have settled into a routine now with the restaurant and life is as normal as its going to get right now.

I see that we are still going strong and growing by the week. Welcome to all the new Dis Dads and to all the Dads that have had some struggles in the past little while, my prayers go out to you.

I just wanted to jump in here with the talk about pin trading, my boys started trading a few years ago and my youngest was a little timid at first, but we had some great interactions with some CM's and the boys love to chat with different CM's. Another thing to do is collect Transportation cards, all you have to do is ask the bus drivers Monorail pilots and boat Captains and they will give the cards, my boys started collecting these this year and think the are pretty cool.

Yes the trading cards, a well worth venture:thumbsup2, Most of the bus driver's have them, the best place to get the monorail ones I've found was Epcot & GF, the boat ones are hit and miss, not all transportation CM's have them since it is voluntary, so you would have to do alittle legwork to get the whole set. I've scored some of the one's I was missing at the Tranportation booth at MK:woohoo:

OK Guys, had to share this funny story.

After dinner tonight our family sat down to relax in the family room with the TV. I had just put down Meg as she was beyond tired so I was going to let the older 2 (6 & 7) stay up a bit. As soon as we sit down Wipeout came on and both girls were jumping with joy. Mary (our oldest) even said that she remembered this show from last year and she LOVED it.

It was hilarious watching them both enjoy the show.
:happytv:

Just to touch on the pin trading, my kids picked this up from their cousins on our first trip and love it. My DS wears his lanyard even at home. I try to pick up duplicate pins when I have a chance just so that he can have extras to trade on our return trips.

There were reports that a Kansas Based group from Westboro Baptist Church were planning a protest at the Funeral of local Senior Airman Benjamin White...local residents showed up to support our fallen hero.

YouTube!!!

According to THIS report...Westboro Baptist Members were not to be found. :confused3

You DO NOT mess with people's family in East Tennessee. :thumbsup2

We had them show up at a funeral in South Georgia....I dare say they will NOT come back:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

:cool2:

I can understand the excitement... DW was trying to rock our 5 month old to sleep last night and everytime he'd be about out, somebody would wipeout and end up twisted like a pretzel and she'd laugh and wake him up. Honestly, it shocked me when she laughed, she usually has no interest in that kind of comedy.:confused3

Well day three is in the books. The word for Tuesday was: Heat! And plenty of it. As a Southerner, heat is no mystery, but it was particularly bad even for us. We spent a little bit of time outside in the morning and took a bus tour of the monuments around the National Mall after the sun had finally set. The rest of the day was indoors at the Smithsonian American History Museum. The folks in charge of “Americas Attic” do a fine job of looking after all the bits and pieces that make up our history, but there is so much to get into that you have to start picking and choosing what you spend time on. If you stop to look at every single thing, you’ll end up seeing nothing. After about half a day, we’d gotten through only about half of just that one museum.

The pictures for today are a few shots of the major monuments (some early, some in the evening). We’ll see how it goes Wednesday, but the forecast is for heat beyond reason. Oh well… Welcome to the South (we’ll… North to me, but you’ll get the idea).

My SIL and BIL are in the World right now...and BIL has taken his Step-Brother...He's about 14...this is his first trip....ever.

That boy was so excited...I'm glad they finally offered for him to tag along.

TO coin a phrase from Christian...They say, "It is Hotter than Satan's Balls."

They have done AK on Mon...Epcot Yesterday...not sure what the plan is for today.

I'm like get that Boy to the Magic Kingdom and put him on a Mountain!!!!

Certainly you are not suggesting that the Smokey's DW is not up to par with Orlando's DW. :lmao:

I'm a Super Pass holder at Dollywood and Splash Country. :thumbsup2

I'm afraid to admit that the Smokey's can get a little pricey in the Summer and during the Fall when the Leaves Change. We only live about 2 hours away...so we usually drive down for the day and spend most of our time at either Dollywood or Splash Country...

We've really gotten our money's worth out of those Super Passes too...I've been to Splash Country 3 Times...DW and Kids have been 4...and I've been to Dollywood 1 Time...DW and Kids 3. All this for about $500...and DW's is a "Gold Pass" which covers parking fee and we get a discount on Food and Merchandise. So for "locals" the Smokey's can be a "value."

However I can see if I were to travel there and spend a week...I couldn't come close...I checked into renting a Cabin for just a weekend back in March...:scared1:.

Also I know that if I had to eat out any significant amount I would go Ba-roke very quick. (Yes that was a jab...at someone. :rolleyes1 )

I'll be heading to Myrtle Beach in a few weeks...now while the Condo for 10 we are going to be in cost about what my Sept Disney Vacation for 4 will cost...but that's no food...no parks...just lodging and a Beach Front Balcony.

Going to WDW and having a Dining Plan...and having the option of paying for it up-front...I really don't think Disney can be beat for value.

I believe that "value" means quality for what you pay for...granted we have memories from our other trips...but we catch ourselves always comparing our experiences to a Disney vacation. :thumbsup2

Looks like we enjoy all the same vacation spots, lol

We love visiting Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, have you tired Hidden Mountain cabins, we usually stay there when we get a cabin, and you can usually get a discount if you call and ask for a special.

And we just got back from a quick weekend at MB with the family.

We're heading to the Smokies in about 3 weeks. Been there a few times before, always stay in a cabin at Oak Haven resort in Sevierville. Don't know what the plans are activity wise, going with the in-laws so I'm at their mercy.:confused3:rolleyes::eek:

Welcome back! I've been wondering how the restaurant was going.

We've all been there. Unfortunately, with my in-laws living so close to Disney World, I'm in the same boat every time I'm in the happiest place on earth.

On a slightly related note, DW just called me after she talked to her mom. I got the standard greeting in this situation - "How the heck did I turn out like I did?!"

Barry...you are really slowing down on your post rate...I mean I've been holding a steady lead on you and it doesn't seem like you are gaining any ground.

You just broke the 1200 Barry-er...and I'm almost half way to 1300.
