Holy cow guys, I go away for a few days and you guys fill over 20 pages. At this rate we will be in IV in no time. Well guys, I am officially unemployed, I woke up this morning and for the first time in a long time I didnt have to do my 1 hr commute to work. The restaurant is pretty well ready, we ordered our inventory today and am going to shop for some other things first thing in the morning. Wednesday, I will be having a party and feeding all the people who helped with the renos or are good customers for free. Any Dads who want to come are welcome.

we had only 3 Chanel's when i was growing up...bbc1 BBC and itv and they all stopped about 11 at night and then didn't start again till about 10 the next day.we didn't have these programs....for us it was zcars and steptoe and son and are you being served on a Sunday.

I was casually mentioning your restaurant to DW last week. She says "so, do you want to go this summer?" Well, it's 11 hours...maybe.
Probably not this summer, but we do eventually want to have the kids experience Canada when they're a bit older. Daddy-O's Place will certainly be on our list!

I haven't had a chance to chime in on the old TV shows yet, so here goes. Ya'll are leaving out Gilligan's Island. Great episodes in B/W that came on every day after school around 4. We also had one of the rotary antennae that would occasionally stick or get blown around by the wind so that you may be turning the dial to the north but it rotated to the south.... Great times. I can remember when we got our first color TV; got it for Christmas one year. I think that I was 13, IIRC. Cable came 2 years later. I remember getting up at 4:30 AM one summer morning to watch a move that I'd always wanted to see on HBO (had a free trial package). I turned on the TV, flipped it to HBO and there were some chick's ****s right there on the TV Needless to say, the free trial expired and there was no more HBO.

We did have a rotary dial phone, but no party line. We could just dial the last 4 digits of a phone number to get hold of someone, though. Not anymore.

I wish you all the best Nick. I think it's awesome that you are striking out like this and making such a big change. I pray it turns out really well for you and your family. It takes a lot to run a restaurant. I never owned or operated a full service restaurant, but I did manage several Domino's locations in my 20's and it was time consuming hard work, and that was just delivery of pizza. I can only imagine what you've got coming - but now I'll be praying for you and yours. Hopefully someday I'll be able to get up there and be one of your customers.

commando, i wounder how many of these guys would remember hogans heros, f troop or gomer pile? most of these guys grew up with more than 10 channels on there tv like we did. remember the rabbit ears? i was lucky, we got cable when i was about 5 so we got 2-13 but before that it was 3-6-10 and pbs. my dd seen a dial phone at a friends house and asked, what is that? it even has a cord on it! how do you take the phone into the bathroom?

I remember all of those shows, but thanks to Peter Pan Syndrome, I'm still not old!!! Dial phones??? I remember party lines.....and when they came and installed our first A/C. Until then we only had central heat and used fans in the windows. Of course, in those days you could leave your doors unlocked and didn't give it a second thought!

Channels 5-11-19 here. Yes we had a Party-line...my folks still have a Dial Phone...with a mechanical ringer.

Gomer, Hogan's Heros, McHale's Navy. I vaguely remember F-Troop.

I remember sitting in front of the TV watching the test pattern waiting for the days programing to start. And it started with 'The Mickey Mouse Club" Also my phone number started with a word: ANdrew 4-5980.
And bythe way Thank You very much for making me feel REALLY OLD!

All joking aside, when I moved to South Dakota in '86, went from 50 to 3 channels, 4 if the weather was good, no A/C, yeah, rotary dial corded phone (Funny when my kids first saw a corded phone - wondering what it was / how it worked)... Pool to no pool, Puter to no puter. Sure was a change in lifestyle for few years, but thinking back on it, I don't think it really mattered.

I do - watched them all, granted in reruns, but I watched them all, and enjoyed them too! No cable in my house growing up, no cable now. Fancy that. I'm not a sports junkie and we're just too cheap to pay for it. We don't watch much broadcast anymore anyway - just don't care for what's on these days. Way too much "reality" junk IMO. Most of what we watch is TV on DVD or movies, or PBS for DD.

I know I'm a few years older than a few here, but I didn't think I was that old!
I remember having a B&W TV. I didn't have cable until I left home my 4th year of college. My Dad still lives in the same place, and still doesn't have cable or satellite. We only had ABC CBS NBC and PBS growing up... and that was if the weather was clear. Now that the signals have went digital, Dad had to put his TV antenna up on his old C.B. tower. (about 300 ft in the air) So, now he can turn the antenna around to pick up the signals that are weaker than they were before. I went over and helped him rewire the roter to the controller in the house. I forgot how small that attic is. My back hurt for about a week after crawling around up there. (why isn't there an :achyback emoticon?)

Here's one that sounds like it will get some of you.... Growing up, you didn't have to use the first two digits of a phone number to call anyone in town. So, my number was 2-2994. I was out of high school before the phone company upgraded the system to where people had to use full phone numbers! Okay, I guess I'm not that old, just grew up rural.

We decided almost a year ago to give up cable. Partly for monetary reasons. But we found that our girls spend a lot more time playing, reading, going outside, etc. now that they don't have Disney Channel and Nick. We watch a lot of movies (Netflix) and they can watch alot of show online on Disney Channel, but they don't spend NEAR the time in front of the TV that they used to. (neither do DW and I)

When I was around 10, There was a movie that always seemed to be on like every week end, that gave me the chills

It was Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark. It started off with a couple that moved into a house, the fireplace was all boarded up, someone told them never to open it, well of course they did.

There were little olive-pit headed people that lived in it , they were scared of the light, during the movie the would be wispering Sara we want you, come join us. At the end of the movie they dragged her into the fireplace and she was never heard from again. It used to wig me out
