Guys, just a heads-up (especially you, Fed):

There's a new store open at Downtown Disney called Ridemakerz. I know, we don't care about shopping that much. Except this might be different. Think of a Build-A-Bear store...

...with cars. Oh yeah. :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

All Ears report on the opening

I could totally picture my sons and me draining the entire family trip budget here.

It is a VERY COOL store! They have one like it at the mall in Schaumburg, IL where the Doorway to Dreams (DVC) store is located, and they have one out at DTD at Disneyland. It is an incredibly fun place.

Holy cow.....man, I can't wait to get in there!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

"I also think this store offers a great bonding opportunity for fathers and sons. I saw a number of dads helping their boys build their car with big smiles on their faces." - I can't wait for my son to be old enough to appreciate this, maybe I can force the issue in September? I mean hell he will be 2.5 then!!!

Only one problem: it says it's currently at DTD "for a limited engagement". They'd like to make it permanent, so hopefully that'll be the case. I can't see this place not being a hit.

Stopher, one of these days I'm going to find something about Disney you hadn't heard of before. :lmao:

This is awesome... I had not idea that was here... i will for sure be going into this store, and maybe coming home with one... I showed my kids and they asked me to bring them home one, but I told them this was a toy store for me ;)

Keep trying Mark, keep trying. I'll wait. :rolleyes1

If you were to see my book shelves, and DVD shelves - as well as the boxes of "stuff" left over from my days as a CM... you'd be amazed. My own personal archives. And it doesn't matter how many times I've read a book, magazine or brochure - I always enjoy them, and can honestly find something "new" in them that I didn't catch in previous reads. DW says I'm a little obsessed, but I tend to disagree with her. I just like to call it VERY interested. :lmao:

I've actually been inside the Ridemakerz in Anaheim and it's awesome. It's actually expanding right now. It opened in 2009 and now in 2010 they're expanding into the space next door. Actually booted out a temporary tenant to get the space. I THINK it was a Ridemakerz in the mall in Illinois, but it might have just been a similar concept store. That I can't recall for certain.

Stopher, thanks for confirming. I thought this sounded familiar but not having any sons I don't get a lot of time to stop and smell the racing fuel. I may have to "borrow" one of my neighbor's sons to stop by there (Schaumburg) some time. :lmao:

Man, I would too......wouldn't even want to THINK about how much one would set you back---not to mention the rare parts you'd need to get it up and going!

The sad fact is that any car the US has made that is fast falls out of production quickly (cuda, shelby, some vettes, + other muscle cars got shot down quick, while upper end imports can ship whatever they want, seems unfair:confused3

"To Punish and Enslave":lmao::lmao::lmao:

I have that graphic on my desk....:rotfl:

Sure. It's on the 3rd level, if I'm remembering correctly, near the Lego store, and next door or very close to the Build-A-Bear location. I can't say for certain if it's a Ridemakerz or not. I just checked online at the mall directory and did not see that name, but there were many other names I don't recognize, so it's probably called something else there - but definitely the same concept.

Why am I not surprised? :rotfl2:

I live in the Middletown area. Newark is about 25-30 minutes away. What brings you over this way?

I have a life long friend that lives there now, I grew up with him since I was 5, I've known him going on 36yrs now, my wife has been close with his wife for 10 years now. I'm a firm believer that keeping up with your friends is good for the soul:goodvibes

Have you ever read "Realityland: True-Life Adventures at Walt Disney World" by David Koenig? It's a great read on the history of WDW from before Walt died in '66 all the way through to Roy's passing in '71 just 8 weeks after dedicating the MK... then on through the trials and tribulations of getting Epcot built as well as the rest - all the way up to just prior to AK. I'm re-reading it now (for the 3rd, or maybe 4th time).

Bios like this have shaped a lot of my knowledge, in addition to many on-site visits of course. As well as having a number of friends on both coasts who work for the company, and, and, and...

Might be enslaved:lmao: But could laugh all the way to the bank:lmao:

Nothing like swearing over an open hood:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Price an ash tray door to a 66 Vette sometime....oh man, you gotta' be kidding me...:eek::eek:

And I just got a bound to be fun new DVD from the Imagineers all about the building of, and opening of the MK. They first released one on DL a couple of years ago which was excellent - all kinds of rare footage, interviews, etc... and now they have the WDW version. Can't wait to watch it.
