Hello Fellas,

I have been away for a little over a week tending to things on the home front and am now back at work. Some of you requested that I give you an update on my Dads condition and here is it. The removal of his brain tumor was successful and he feels better and can think a lot clearer now. The results of the tests came back and he unfortunately has cancer, Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade IV is what they call it exactly. The doctors told us this is a very aggressive cancer and his time is limited. (6-24 months with radiation treatments). My Dad being a stubborn European man is stating that he does not want to go for treatments and will live with his decisions. I am hopeful that he will change his mind and go ahead with radiation. I know Trennr has had some experience with this, I was wondering if anyone else has and can tell me about their experiences. Having people to talk to has made this a lot easier to deal with and I would appreciate hearing others stories.

sorry to hear that disney daddy. my dad past away from the same thing. i didnt want to say anything before. its was hard to take because he came out of surg. great. he was 50 at the time. this was in 1984. he went thru radiation and it just didnt help.we took care of him at home till about 4 days before he passed. my dad was head of act. for a cement co. he thought he was having migrains. my dad was told 3 months and he tried radiation anyway. he just lost his wife, my mom of 30 years the year before to cancer. he just wasnt the same after she had passed. my dad and i spent alot of nights together when he was home. we said alot of things that normanly you wouldnt say.the last time we all went to wdw together the guy had kidney stones and we drove!!! he never said nothing till he passed it the 4th day we were there!! over the years my oldest bro had skin cancer (he made it) my next bro never had anything. the next bro passed away of limphoma at 44 and my sister had breast cancer (she made it). my dads last 3 weeks here, had no pain and went very peacefully. i always hope 25 years later they would find a cure for this!if you ever want to talk, pm me. take it easy, and have faith!they gave my sister 1 year and 8 years later she is clear!!!

Hearing your story has brought back a lot of memories for me. I was raised by my grandparents who both were taken from me by cancer. My grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer when she was 63, (she worked in a textile factory for twenty years, Not a smoker) she chose to fight and went constantly to treatments and she ended up suffering for almost 16 months. She was in terrible pain and never seemed to be herself in the last several months. She finally went to the lord on my Eighteenth birthday. Ill never forget how long and drug out that painful process was for her. two months before she passed my grandfather, ( a rock solid Irishman) was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He chose not to fight with treatments. He passed on my Nineteenth birthday exactly one year after my grandmother. His cancer spread very quickly and his last few weeks were very uncomfortible. He passed away quietly in his sleep. I am not sure why but I always felt terrible about the way that my grandmother suffered for what seemed like such a long time. I think that for me personally it is a relief though that they were both able to go on their own terms. Some might think that they are being selfish but when you are facing your own mortality having a little bit of control could be worth quite a bit.

Not really a conflict of interest but I see Universal going straight downhill. The only saving grace for them is Harry Potter land. Maybe Disney will be nice and allow them to keep using the toons for a fee. Just kidding, no way they would let that happen. Once whatever agreement is in place with Universal and Marvel is over Disney will kill them.

I cant agree more! But I have to say that im excited in a major way. I am sooo looking forward to that day when I get to take my little buddy to meet Spiderman. And it will be even better that it will be at our favorite place in the world.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I have dealt with this on a personal and professional level. I have seen some seek aggressive treatment, only to experience substantial pain and limited success. I have seen others elect Hospice care, given a terminal diagnosis, only to later be discharged from Hospice as their condition improved. I am a believer in our medical capabilities, but am also a believer in the person's soul. Still, there is only one who knows when your time is your time. Keep in touch with the Dr., include as many in the discussion regarding all treatment options and side effects, and ultimately, be supportive. He will make the decision he feels he is able to make. Again, my prayers are with you.

Sorry to bring this back from sooooo many pages ago, but when you're offline for a few days, there's a lot to catch up on.

middlepat - have you driven before? What's your plan for driving? I live just north of the "cheese curtain" in Wisconsin, and we're driving in October (we're getting there, it seems, just as everyone else is leaving.) Anyway, we've never driven before, and I'm looking for all the opinions I can get. It will be me, DW, DD4, DD2 and two dogs in the van. Are you taking 57 or 65? I've heard Atlanta can be a nightmare. I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but we leave in 38 days and I'm in last-minute-prep mode.

We have not driven before to FL. We have driven roughy 1700 miles from Chicagoland to Alberta Canada in 2 days a few years ago so we learned some lessons from that trip. (DDs were 2.5 and 1.5 roughly at the time)

I would plan on stops roughly every 2 hours and plan to stop for 15 minutes each time to stretch, bathroom, etc. Sorry if this is redundant for you if you guys are experienced long-distance drivers.

As far as going down to WDW, we plan on taking 57 due to recomendations both on here (the 2,000+ mile thread) and from talking to friends at work. As for Atlanta, I've heard the same but I also have heard that if you time it so you are not there during rush hour, its quickest to go through the center of town and not by-pass. I think you have to judge that based on time/day you hit ATL.

I traded my hot rod and sold my first boat to put her through grad school...

I brought that up, and let's just say, it got really, really, really cold in the desert---and really quiet too

I would normally suggest not to take the by-pass either but they are doing alot of work on the I-75/I-85 connecter on the north side of town so I would seriously reconsider that. The I-285 bypass is a little out of the way but due to construction and possibly rush hour traffic it is not that bad. The Northside of the greater Atlanta area heading into town in the mornings is REAL bad. It usually starts at about 6:30 or so and doesn't end until about 10 or so. The traffic in the afternoons heading south on I-75 is bad from about 4:30 on and it is hit or miss on the stop and go issue. Your best bet is to time it to hit Atlanta around lunch time and continue on through and get lunch once you are a bit south of McDonough, GA. That is where most of the traffic stops being bad for rush hour issues.

Also, if you are driving in shifts non-stop try and time the drive to get in Atlanta in the evening/night time frame. You will miss all of the real bad traffic issues. Of course when my brother and I were driving my boat from Miami to Ohio a few years ago we hit Atlanta at about 2am and the traffic was dead stopped for an unknown reason.

My wife is the same way. I cant even count the amount of money she spent last year on material things. She would call me out on the rig in the middle of nowhere and say "Sweety I found some cloths I want," or "I got some things for the house today." But do I ever say anything, no way! But when I wanted to go to South Bend for a few days and see the Irish play USC it was out of the question. But what am I gonna do she takes care of the kids while im on the road for over three hundred days a year.

Just do what my wife did to me. I was away for a wekend fishing trip and she called me on my cell phone. She says "Kevin are you sitting down?" I am thinking uh oh what did she do now. She says "I bought a car today!" We were not even looking at cars. It was a POS Mercury Sable. Luckily she had only put a down payment on the car. I went and looked at it when I got home and convinced the dealer that he had better give me the down money back. This car was in great condition on the outside, the rest of the car was BBBAAADDD!!!!

I think that she did it so that I would stop going away on so many fishing trips.

Dis Fed - I have a 17ft Alumacraft. I sold my 19ft Stratos bass Boat for this.

Great ideas here! Buy two and put the diamond bracelet in the glove compartment of hers! That should really do it!

We just bought a 2007 Camry and it's definitely the nicest car we've ever owned. What a comfortable ride!

We don't have a boat so we have to enjoy the one that goes back and forth between POR and DTD! We'll be doing that in 32 days!
