You have to do what's best for your family regardless....though it's tough sometimes...sorry to hear about your sister..

Nothing compared to what you have to go through, but I see your time is coming to an end. If I haven't said it before, thank you for your sacrifice, and all you do. You da man!!

Family first, always. Enjoy your down time with yours.

Thanks for the well wishes....I chose my road, in your case, you just kinda have to go with what life throws at you--I think mine might be a little easier to take...

at least you get to kick some @$$ in the process....always fun and a good way to de-stress-ify.

It's a trip born out of necessity. We always spend Christmas Eve at my sisters house, but with her being in a coma, the day promised to be pretty depressing, so we decided it was time to take the girls to Disney, and at the same time, be able to disconnect from reality for a little while. I feel kind of guilty going to Disney while my sister lies in a coma, knowing that most of my family will spend their christmas at her bed side, but I couldn't put my girls, or myself through that this year. Since our Christmas traditions are practically over, it was high time to start a new one, hopefully, depending on how this trip plays out, Disney may become our new Christmas tradition. But I sure am going to miss eating the roasted pork.

Sorry to hear about your sister. I give you alot of respect, your staying strong for your girls and that's important. I hope everthing works out for you!

I am a Dis Grandad who just dicovered this thread. I have been a Disney fanatic all my life and started taking my two kids to WDW in '72. Now there are six grandkids to share it with. The whole family makes a Christmas trip to WDW each year and navigating twelve of us through the parks and restaurants is a fun challange. DW and I also make several trips a year just for our own fun. I know I qualify to join your group since I am the biggest kid in the family when it come to Disney, from my Mickey Mouse watch to my Goofy neckties. It is great to know there are other guys out there who can't get enough Disney.

If anyone is interested in audio books, I visit a site called podiobooks.com, where amature authors write and record their work and then distribute for free (donations welcomed). Well, I just started listening to something called "Down & Out in The Magic Kingdom". A futuristic novel set inside a closed, but still functioning MK. I've only just started it, so it might be a horrible waste of time, but, if anyone wants to give it a shot, here's the link:

http://www.podiobooks.com/title/down-and-out-in-the-magic-kingdom

Cool, I will definately have to check it out, I come into work at 6:00am but none of my people show up until 7:00 so I'll have some uninterrupted time.

:idea::idea:The Dis Dads will be there early Dec next year, maybe we might be able to get in something:confused3, Have to look into this in Oct or Nov:surfweb: Would be cool on Christmas watching and spotting the group at some event:happytv:

Not sure how we got on the list for the email but DW got a message in November asking for volunteers to attend the taping in early December, we weren't quick enough in the reply but I'll see if I still have the email to get in touch with someone about next year.

We had a similar situation a few years ago in my family. Each our mom, all my siblings and our families would get together for a long weekend at my sister's cabin in northern Wisconsin. One year, about a month before our annual retreat, my mom suffered a brain aneurysm that required massive surgery. She lost a lot of memories and was in pretty bad shape for a while, but we all decided that she would want us to get together and have fun instead of sitting around the hospital. It has taken her a few years, but she's slowly getting back to normal and insists that we did the right thing.

I guess the bottom line is that you have to take care of your family. And what a better tradition than Christmas in Disney World?

Because of my quick turnaround to deploy again (May:headache:) the car might just have to wait....

My In Laws are in Malta and the place is packed with British who retired there because of all the time they spent serving there during the war. I'm going out on a limb here and predicting you won't be picking out the vacation home while you are there. I'd love to see the incentives DVC would come up with to have it as your home resort:rolleyes1

I've listened to about half of it so far, the story itself is kind of boring but there a lot of cool MK references, the author would efinitely fall into Dis Dad territory. To make it a little more interesting, I tuned into DisRadio and lowered the volume to play in the back ground as a soundtrack.

Glad to hear that your mom is doing better. Unfortunately, I don't think my sister will pull out of this, if she does the damage to her brain will be too severe. She's been like this since March, did I mention, she also has cancer? Which is what put her in this situation in the first place, surgeon accidentally nicked her artery when inserting the chemo port. Technically, our xmas tradition was something my mom started when she first immigrated to the US in '66, when she passed away 12 years ago, my sister took over hosting the party. In some ways, Christmas at Disney is the fulfilment of a life long dream (aim low and you'll never be disappointed). Every kid wants to spend Christmas at Disney, now mind can. A trip I doubt that they'll ever forget.

Unfortunately, I know all to well about how cancer can affect a family at this time of year. My dad just recently passed away to brain cancer and we always spend Christmas Eve at my Mom and Dads place. Mom has decided that my dad would want us to continue doing the same thing. I would think that your sister would want you to do whats best for your family. Good luck with everything and prayers go out to your family.

I just started listening to the audio book, only listened to the first 5 minutes and sounds kind of interesting. I have an hour commute to work and this is the kind of stuff that helps kill the time while driving. Thanks

I'm not sure if you listen to the weekly podcast of this site, but that is something else to listen to with a Disney theme. Check out the link in my siggie if you don't already listen.

:welcome::welcome::welcome:

Emmas dad will be around shortly to add you to the list.

Seems to me you will fit right in.:thumbsup2

Sign me up! I found this thread a few days ago and thought I'd fit in with some like-minded Dis Dads. And with my December 2010 trip in the works, I have to join, right? It seems like a lot of you are going then. If I timed it right, I may be Dis Dad #400. Do I get a commemorative mug or something?
I've been a Disney nut all my life. The wife doesn't exactly embrace the Dis obsession, but she does tolerate it though. I'm teaching the three little ones well, so someday our collective fanaticism will make annual WDW trips a tradition like I grew up with.

Welcome to the club!

Where abouts in SE Florida are you? I'm in Broward county...

Hey guys...my wife found this website and it is pretty cool, especially if you have little kids. You can customize a video from Santa to your kids...incorporating whether they have been naughty or nice, what toys they have asked for etc. My DD4 thought it was the most amazing thing. Check it out...

Nope. We get the commemorative mugs, you get to fill them up with the frosty adult beverage of your choice! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Welcome aboard! Emma's Dad will be along soon to officially bestow a membership number on you. Do you have your dates set for December yet? Check the green link in my signature for the details on the rest of us that are going. If you can make it, we'd love to add you to our little gathing - whatever that may be!

That's totally awesome! I'd love to have that many people at WDW at one time. Welcome to the club! You are member # 399!

#400!!

You MUST be a DIS Dad to be waiting to sign up just to be #400 :lmao::lmao:
Actually... I think the consensus is... the 400th member is hazed by your choice of the following:
a.) A round of beer for all the DIS dads
b.) Purchase first tank of gas for the DIS Dads Club Bus
There were more... but I've forgotten! Help me out here, guys!

:welcome: WELCOME TO THE DIS DAD'S CLUB! :welcome:

You have been added to the DIS Dad's Club list :thumbsup2

For those new guys who haven't taken the time to read all 200 pages, the "bus" in in reference to the Dis Dad's Party Bus, which has morphed into one of our logos. See post #197 on this page: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2224667&page=14 to get caught up! :thumbsup2
